Bobby Lee was an underrated guest on the show, bizarre and very funny. Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs had great stories too, not on the funny side but still genuine and wholesome. Earlier Burr, CK and Patrice are of course staples. Bob Kelly and Vos too, also Florentine. Bobo once you get to know the 'character' is hilarious, intern David...many a laughs fellas.
I'm a truck driver, so I'm alone on the road for hours a day, many days in a row. I still listen to old Opie and Anthony shows. I just started over again with October 4th 2004, still the only thing worth listening to.
I work in a warehouse and we don't interact with co workers much and literlly daily ALL day is old o&a clips and man hearing the old Patrice and rich Vos clips and the monster rain story or anthony pretending to sleep so his gay kid friend didn't know he heard him will never get old.
Recently discovered the Eric the Midget calls on Howard Stern about a year ago and fall asleep to his old calls nearly everynight. He called in regularly from 2002-2014 when he passed and my god he was radio gold wish i knew about him when he was alive

Easy to bash Opie, but when he was 'on' he was actually better than Anthony. Norton? OK, but it would have been about the same with or without him. Then the roasts on the Howard Stern show with Colin Quinn, the GOAT of roasts Greg Giraldo, Artie, Sal and Richard. Those were the best. Artie made the show from interesting to hilarious and captivating. Artie had more talent in one of his fat fingers than all the others combined. 💯👍

Opie killed bits but even as a longtime fan, I respect the fact he was the one who put the shows together, scheduled bits, book guests, hire and fire people, and did all the show prep. He was the boss. Ant and Jim showed up to be brilliantly funny. In that respect, Opie did the thankless work of being radio guy by making and assembling the show while everyone else got the credit being funny and Opie the scorn for not being a comic - even though that was never his role. Opie was totally fine if he was chill and stuck to his role of being the straight man, relaxed to let Ant and Jim or whoever do their thing, and guiding the show once bits got stale and moving on. It was that bubbling resentment that everyone else was getting the credit and accolades and feeling shut out of his own show he put together when he'd be a dick on the air and try to alpha his way over people. I kinda feel sorry for him on that front cause he's still a human being. Even if Ant didn't get fired for his rant, if you were a regular listener up to then, the writing was on the wall that it was gonna end anyway.
He did do the job of "steering the show" and he did it really good but towards the end though that resentment was just palpable. Finally I couldnt be the opie defender after that. It sucks cause all of them, Opie, Jim, Anthony, and Patrice when he showed up just really did something special.

The last 8-9 months there'd be entirely normal and funny shows but Ant's race rants didn't help cause Opie was being yelled at behind closed doors about it, and the resentment would be so there some shows and you'd legitimately wait thinking they'd have a blow up argument on the air. I don't know if Patrice being alive would've changed things but I do bet he would've put everyone in line to be honest and hash shit out. Opie and Patrice were really good friends behind the scenes and I'd like to believe a happier timeline where Ant, Jim, and Opie reconciled enough to at least work together. Ant being fired is another story and variable cause he really fucked up, Twitter and virulent angry drunkenness is always a terrible idea.

As far as bits id say the shows were pretty comparable. Ware O/A shined in my minds was the fact Opine never had the control Stern did. Stern had an iron grip on who said what on the show. Opie wanted to, but really once it got going even Opster couldnt stop it. Id say Howard had overall better bits, but O/A had the best bits. Neither holds a candle to Ronnie B either. Some of the best O/A bits were sending interns into Ronnie to yell at.
Classic Stern was genius at times, no thanks in particular to Stern. The Jackie Martling bits that Billy West performed are arguably second-to-none, production-wise. Stern's best moments (in my opinion) were when he's tear Baba Booey or Stuttering John a new asshole. But Anthony is a brilliant mind, especially playing against other funny guys. Louis CK's appearances on that show had me laughing until I couldn't take it.
As a New York resident and hardcore fan who has listened to EVERY show that both O and A and Howard have ever broadcast, the Opie and Anthony show is far more entertaining. When Howard first started, the show was primarily pre written and many times pre recorded bits. When they got Artie it became more spontaneous and organic, which is how O and A were. I can’t even include Stern show post Artie because it became unlistenable.
So Woodys favorite Stern stuff was when they tried to be #1 in specific city and when he interviewed celebrities. That literally is like the worst part of the Stern show. (I guess thats exactly what I should expect from Woody though) Also Woody never watch the Artie era which is probably the best part. (I guess thats exactly what I should expect from Woody also)

As far as bits id say the shows were pretty comparable. Ware O/A shined in my minds was the fact Opine never had the control Stern did. Stern had an iron grip on who said what on the show. Opie wanted to, but really once it got going even Opster couldnt stop it. Id say Howard had overall better bits, but O/A had the best bits. Neither holds a candle to Ronnie B either. Some of the best O/A bits were sending interns into Ronnie to yell at.

Classic Stern was genius at times, no thanks in particular to Stern. The Jackie Martling bits that Billy West performed are arguably second-to-none, production-wise.
Stern's best moments (in my opinion) were when he's tear Baba Booey or Stuttering John a new asshole.
But Anthony is a brilliant mind, especially playing against other funny guys. Louis CK's appearances on that show had me laughing until I couldn't take it.

As a New York resident and hardcore fan who has listened to EVERY show that both O and A and Howard have ever broadcast, the Opie and Anthony show is far more entertaining. When Howard first started, the show was primarily pre written and many times pre recorded bits. When they got Artie it became more spontaneous and organic, which is how O and A were. I can’t even include Stern show post Artie because it became unlistenable.

That literally is like the worst part of the Stern show. (I guess thats exactly what I should expect from Woody though)
