I have fond memories of the Ford Ranchero. This new Ford Maverick may be the perfect compromise vehicle for people who want a "car-replacement" truck - but not too much truck.

I have been wanting a ranchero or el camino for most of my life. Got to ride in one back in the early 70's and thought they were the greatest. Truly. I hate trucks. I can't stand them, but the Maverick is just the right size, beautiful, and yeah... has the ranchero vibe with a lot more functionality. I am sure it will drive like a car, put you up higher like in a taller SUV, and will get a lot of use for camping, biking, outdoors, and buying items for home improvement projects. I have never owned a truck before, so this will be my first and I am hearing a lot of people that aren't into trucks are going for this, too. I spoked with an elderly couple who was driving an older model Ford Ranger because they had a bike rack attached to their tow bar and I was thinking of doing that with the Maverick. When I told them what I was going to do, their faces lit up and they said they were going to buy the Maverick,, too. They were saddened the Ranger had increased in size and price. The woman didn't like the four doors the Maverick has. She was wanting more space in the bed of the truck. I should be picking up mine end of August!

Just so you know Mavericks are finally arriving to dealerships -yay! I seen the first one in my area about a week ago it was a Lariat hybrid with luxury package and sunroof for $31k. I freaking love it! I was wondering how the quality would be and I was extremely impressed! Everything feels great, like closing the doors it sounds and feels like new Lincoln products but with slightly less insulation sound. The B&O 660 watt stereo sounds amazing. I was impressed with all the storage areas and tie down hooks. It just blew my mind at everything you get for $31k, what all you can use the truck for all while getting get 40mpg. I am definitely getting one. You should see if your dealership has any yet and go check it out, they're impressive!

The system used in this vehicle should cost more than it does. Ford Escape Hybrid system, with Toyota CVT technology. The ranger gets crap gas mileage and my wife didn’t like it when we got it for a rental car on a trip. If you want to test something out, call your local rental car place and rent one for a day. Drive it everywhere and at all speeds with your significant other. This may cost $80-100 to do for each vehicle but the lack of sales pressure and ability to test everything is so nice. If you don’t like it right away you can usually swap it for no cost. Even some dealers rent out their vehicles.

That e-CVT is not the same as the CVT from Ford in the past. From the information out there, it is similar to the Prius transmission that is real solid. I don't think the e-CVT will be an issue, as it is the same from the Escape Hybrid.

Thanks so much for this thorough list of options and choices. I had my heart set on the hybrid because of the 40mpg, but stopped by a Ford Dealership in Ohio and talked with them and had mentioned that someone said first delivery was perhaps December. He told me they had three non-hybrids that were being built in August and September. One of which, is an AWD non-hybrid. After talking with him further, I began to realize that the AWD would be better for me and the XLT model he has coming in also has the off-road package. It has all the packages except the luxury package. I could order it to spec, but I think it is worth getting now. For this type of vehicle and all that it comes with for the price, it is much more than most cars or trucks. The Santa Cruz decked out like this is approx. $40,000 so for this kind of deal with these packages, it is insane... especially when these cars are and will be in short supply for possibly a year or two for various reasons.
I priced trucks like the Ranger and F-150 recently and when I searched online, during the weekday the websites offered a different price than on the weekend and some stickers no longer have costs... it has the words "market price". There were a few trucks that actually did have the sticker price that was exact. The car market will be up and down for the next two years and for Ford to come out with the Bronco, F-150 Lightning, and the Maverick along with the Mach-E is truly energizing the car market and at this point, it's hard to keep up with demand.
Tesla and Rivian have two excellent pickup trucks to produce and Rivian won't start production until end of this year. The F-150 Lightning won't start production until Spring of 2022. Tesla CyberTruck literally placed on hold for the time being. The VW Buzz won't be available until 2024.
My goal is to buy the Maverick that is being delivered to the dealership end of August or when it appears on their lot. They will call me, and will offer it to me first before anyone else. If I love it, will move forward with buying it..

In answer to your wondering why a power sliding rear window requires Co-Pilot 360, it's because of wiring harness complexity reduction, not because the window functionally has anything to do with that 360 package. If every single option on a vehicle required its own unique wiring harness when a vehicle is built, a lot of vehicles would be built incorrectly due to added complexity on the assembly line. Simplifying the number of wiring harnesses needed improves quality.
