It's cool seeing someone with about my level of understanding do these sorts of projects. In that he's clearly researched how to do it but hasn't gone to trade school or anything. You get to see what the quality you can reach if you just put in the work and get it done.

Just did my large redwood deck with Cabot Deck Correct, same color as yours. You’re right about the prep. Total time was about a week. Fairly expensive paint and the internet is full of opinions about Cabot DC (CDC), Some hate it some love it. It’s not a translucent stain so it’s not beautiful like a transparent stain is. My deck is about 5 years old and the initial Behr Redwood stain, hand painted and cloth wiped was stunningly beautiful. The hue and grain was really gorgeous. But it lasted only a year and the chipping and peeling was terrible. I will never use Behr paint again. I had to spray paint it with a single coat of excellent Benjamin Moore semi-transparent deck stain, which held up for about 3 years. I wanted to try a different stain, so the Cabot Deck Correct seemed like a quality product. The CDC is very dense and viscous, so the coating is literally heavy. The deck looks good, but kind of has a “composite “ wood look to it. Hopefully it holds up about 2-3 years. Btw, I think the CDC might be too thick for a sprayer.

I’m doing what you did except I’m planning to put down a coat of Zinser Primer before 2 coats of Cabot Deck Correct. My deck is about 450sq ft, and after all the hard work of scraping and sanding, I don’t want to do this again. For a long time.

I own a pressure washing and wood restoration company. While your deck looks amazing (great job btw), deck correct ages BADLY. Over time… it will start to peel, not chip but actually peel like paint. It’s such a pain to remove.

How has it held up? Reading a few reviews where products like this can chip after a few years, then really a mess. On the fence on using…

It's only been on my deck for a little less than a year now but it still looks good as new even with the sun beating down on it every day

How much product did you use on that sized deck? I am about to pull the trigger on the same product and color.

About 3 gallon cans was good for about 700 sq ft of deck, the cedar color looks great and holds up well

My advice, from personal experience. Get 2 or 3 friends, a couple angle grinders and a handful of 40-grit zirconia grain flap disc. This stuff will or most likely has already started to peel, and needs to be sanded off. It's trash, just use a oil-based sealer and consider it a lesson learned.

It's been great, no peel and the color has held up, same Redwood as when it was stained.
