Spain were on the ropes for about 5 minutes in the 2nd half after the Palmer goal that came against the run of play. But then Spain essentially said "alright, enough of that", took the ball and took control of the game again. For about 80-85 minutes, England were nowhere to be seen
We proved for a few minutes we can put up the spain but when we sit back and let them push us around, we end of losing and its all written on the previous games, World Cup Quarter finals, Last Euro Finals.
@@antmar6552 No bruv, what you do is play to your strengths. Player for player, England are better than Spain. England defended and none of the England players who played play defensive football at their clubs. Kane was injured and a lot of the players were unfit. Southgate’s defensive-minded philosophy and team selection lost the final and made England handicapped all the way through to the final. This Spain team almost got dragged back to 2-2 by a constrained and tired England team who preferred to have a pity-party identifying themselves as victims instead of getting on with playing expansive attacking football like they do at club level.
At no point were England going to win. England played a boring style of anti football all tournament. The only reason they made the final is down to the fact the better teams were in the other half of the draw.
Yet the media and lots of people in the public eye kept saying to anyone who’d listen that it’s England’s time and it’s coming home……… some of the supporters need to face reality. If Kane can’t fit into the team and play to his strengths, wtf is he there for? Get anyone else in that can play to the team’s strengths, that’s how you can play to win instead. As for asking for a bank holiday before the match….. 🤦🏻♂️

What a load of cobblers. England are extremely lucky to have reached the final. Most of their play has been abysmal and they were never in any danger of tearing Spain apart tonight.
You didn't watch all the vid did you because he agrees with you. However, there was a brief period after the equaliser when England were on the front foot and could have gone ahead if Southgate had let them. But yet again his negative, cautious mentality seeped through.

I am just sick and tired of the continual blame heaped on England managers particularly Southgate who statistically is the most successful manager England has had since Alf Ramsay and even he only got England to 12 major tournaments while Southgate has taken England to 24.

The difference was Ramsey actually won the World Cup, which Southgate was no closer to doing than Robson was in 1990. England was not exactly tearing the Spanish apart. But he is absolutely right. England did not try to build on the momentum after the scoring the equalizer, went passive again and were punished for that. In this they wasted the only moment when they could have won it.
Against a team that will dominate the ball so well you need to press and he starts kane, a player that doesn't press, a player that won't make runs in behind. Spain could push as high as they wanted with no consequence. Palmer has been incredible and doesn't start. These decisions are criminal.

We did have a plan... rely on individual brilliance to get us through to extra time and pens but it failed. Harry was a disgrace all game with his work rate and Jordan kept hoofing the ball long to him and it come back every single time. Gareth had his best players in form on the bench all tournament
As long as they play like they do, Kane is useless. And what is Bellingham supposed to do in this team? He played for Dortmund and plays for Real who both are attacking teams, not park the bus and hope for moments. Same with Foden and Saka. They have so many good players, yet they have a manager that doesn't suit the squad at all, but will want to keep him because "vibes".

I have already seen people posting saying no manager ever got us here, but guess what Southagte has the exact same amount of trophies to show as Sven, Capello, Venables etc. zero. If people are happy with England just taking part and ultimately losing then fine. Only team to lose back to back Euro finals. Portugal were rewarded in 2016 for failing in the weakest group there had ever been in the Euro's by somehow avoiding Italy Spain Belgium & Germany before lifting the trophy. That would've never happened in the previous format and it hasn't happened since even in this format. They got a route that a team winning their group don't expect and wouldn't realistically get but finishing bottom half should've been embarrassing elimination.
The way i seen it was we didnt have a clue what to do when we had the ball and then Spain was able to relax and just pass it around
With all of England's talent on the pitch, Saka, Watkins, Palmer - the manager is the obvious standout problem. Failure is the fault of management and Southgate should not be managing England through to the 2026 World Cup.

Because they were allowed to dominate. Same as against italy after shaws early goal. Same against france after going behind and then equalising. Spain dominated possesion because they were are on the front foot pressing high and playing with pace. Our players had no time on the ball whereas southgate had us sat back giving them all the time on the ball to hurt us. Southgates football has alway been like this. Slow defensive and too cautious. The english capello. Modern football has moved on from that slow contolled style of the 90s that was successful in europe back then. It’s really really hurts but what hurts more is the reports that the FA want him to stay. When we conceded the first goal, spain tried to get a second and nearly did. When England scored that’s when Spain could have been rattled, go for the winner. Instead Southgate’s plays defensive. I dislike this man so much it’s unreal. Everyone saw tonight Southgate’s tactical limitations except the FA.
We have one of if not the best national team in the world in terms of talent, it would be devastating if we were hold back yet again in WC 2026.

He was talking about the lead up to the England goal. I thought the Spanish defence looked flaky actually when England were pressuring towards end of first half when it was very equal when England had the only shot on goal. I don't know what Southgate says at half time but they lost their composure, and it's not the first time it's happened in an important game, for that reason I think Southgate should call it a day.

Deluded. Spain were just better. They made it look effortless, especially in the 2nd half. Most English players looked terrified to have the ball for longer than 2 seconds at their feet, and when they did try to take on a man, no skill, rarely any efficient pass & move, meanwhile the Spanish were slick perfectionists and didn't look panicked once.
The only thing England had in their hands were their .....
Maybe if englands players had pressed them high like they did to us then their players might have been terrified to have the ball as well. Southgate = slow tempo= sit deep = no high press= spain time on ball= spain far superior..

Well said Adrian. I am an American. Morata, Cucurella and a 37 year RB are not better than what the English have. Why defend so much. I don't get it. Go for it and win gloriously or lose gloriously. Spain obviously deserved the win. Most of the danger seemed to come down England's right flank. I think Trippier should have come on for Walker who looked more vulnerable than usual.
Give Spain all the credit they fully deserve! England got beat in the final by the best team in the tournament, no shame in it at all.
