This performance was called A mans farewell as it was a send off to the drummer who was leaving the band, but tragically it was also the final performance with the frontman Shinji Sato who passed away not long after. So this album is an incredibly poignant piece of art in the sense that they truly gave it their all despite not even knowing the full gravity of the circumstances ahead of them. Its pretty sweet.
im crying from laughter everytime you mention the saxophone lmao, that's an electric violin, but i totally understand how you could mix them up, a saxophone would sound really jarring on that album so the more i imagined it the more i laughed
The bass on this whole album is A KILLER! Ohhhh my godddddddd I just love how it brings these dub/reggae ideas into the overall dream pop vibe, and Shinji's vocals are downright angelic, adding a smooth, dreamy layer. Also imho the Japanese language sounds really aesthetically pleasing, but perhaps thats just mine anime induced brainrot lmfao. This live concert is a testament to Fishmans incredible growth as a band. From their roots as a pop reggae/dub/ska-ish band to embracing more of dream pop and neopsychedelic influences, their evolution is truly amazing! Like one of the best band developments out there lol. I also love how different these songs are from their studio versions. Going chronologically through their discography, discovering 98.12.28 feels sooo good! Like rediscovering all their songs in a whole new light.
Holy shit 2k went by fast! I recommend this album a while ago, I'm glad you're listening to it now, its probably the most important piece of music in my life. Congratulations, and keep going!!
That reaction to what was that was so relatable I went walking around for hours listening to that song in the middle of winter in the middle of nowhere in Norway. I felt like I was floating on a cloud
Nice you're reacting to this album! Just a note, in the first track it's a violin that enters, not a saxophone, the girl that plays it also plays accordeon and keys! Although I guess you find out eventually seeing that you reviewed the video for Long Season hehe
Incredible album, can’t wait for the second half. You should also listen to Uchu Nippon Setagaya at some point, it’s my favorite of their studio albums.
Some suggestions for you: Little Simz 'Grey Area' Echo and the Bunnymen 'Ocean Rain' Richard Dawson 'Peasant' Easy Star All-Stars 'Dub Side of the Moon' Midlake 'The Trials of Van Occupanther'

Indeed, the final performance of a great band captured in full. It’s miraculous, really.
I think it was actually th bassist who was leaving but I might’ve remembered it wrong
@@maxmiller1950no i think you're right i got that wrong
