I studied voice for over 15 years, and everything she's saying is definitely legitimate and useful. Keeping the high notes light rather than pressuring your voice. But in the end, it is what your range is capable of. You need to be a real soprano, a light soprano, to sing this song. The notes she says are difficult are only difficult if you don't have the notes in your voice. She is very helpful.

I'm auditioning for the role of Christine at my school and this was so so helpful thank you so much!!
2 years later: I'm just now seeing the comments!! I ended up getting the understudy, but I also got to be apart of the performance as the lead soprano for ensemble songs and really enjoyed it!

An alto can definitely sing this. Well depends on your actual range, but I know a lot of altos who can absolutely nail this song even better than me, an underdeveloped soprano.

    Lyrics
Think of me, think of me fondly
    When we've said goodbye
Remember me, once in a while
    Please promise me you'll try
When you find that once again you long
To take your heart back and be free
If you ever find a moment
    Spare a thought for me
We never said our love was evergreen
Or as unchanging as the sea
But if you can still remember
    Stop and think of me
    Think of all the things
    We've shared and seen
    Don't think about the way
    Things might have been
Think of me, think of me waking
    Silent and resigned
    Imagine me trying too hard
To put you from my mind
    Recall those days
Look back on all those times
Think of the things we'll never do
There will never be a day
When I won't think of you
Can it be, can it be Christine?
    Bravo!
Long ago, it seems so long ago
How young and innocent we were
    She may not remember me
    But I remember her
Flowers fade, the fruits of summer fade
They have their season so do we
But please promise me that sometimes
    You will think of me

Might be a bit late now but as a fellow teenage soprano with voice lessons: PLEASE be careful with your upper voice, or you may risk damaging your vocals forever. Please only do the big E6 rarely, if at all, and hydrate afterwards
and eat/drink(?) some honey. And if you have a voice teacher, only attempt with his/her permission. If you damage your voice at a young age, you risk the notes you are trying to reach! Also as Freya said, relax while doing the notes
      Just some tips. Good luck!

      @annabaker9173 7 років тому +40

Sarvin you don't have to have years of hard practice. Natural vibrato actually comes with proper technique which you can teach yourself. It isn't that hard to find your vibrato. But your voice also has to be fully developed.

    • @mowesrik
      @mowesrik 6 років тому +6

I didn't know that. I developed my vibrato a few years ago and I didn't even sing regularly back then.

    • @bargasfam
      @bargasfam 5 років тому +14

Anna Baker Your voice doesnt need to be fully developed to have a natural and healthy vibrado. I’m 15 and I have a natural healthy vibrato. Proper technique is very hard to get without a voice lessons teacher but it is possible. Singing is dangerous to do self taught because if you do something wrong for a very long time, it can really hurt your voice in the long term. That is why a voice lessons teacher is a lot of help.

Beautiful as always! Since you have a classical background, would it be possible for you to make some videos about classical singing? I have a huge problem with my high notes, I just can't sing them even though I'm a soprano (I can reach them tho, so I know they are there, but when I try to sing them I sound like a dying cat) and I've been training almost for 5 years. Also, how to sing coloratura and trills? And I would love a "How to sing that song" from an actual opera aria. Something easy like Voi che sapete or Vedrai carino. :)

    • @junobrosas
      @junobrosas 6 років тому +5

Coloratura is one of the Fach categories for sopranos and while trying other techniques can be beneficial, you can't expect to just become one. Same goes for other categories. For the most part, it's a natural thing, it's not very likely to become one voice part just because you want it. But I agree, more classical videos would be great! And good luck with those high notes!

    [CARLOTTA]
Think of me, think of me fondly
    When we've said goodbye
Remember me, once in a while
    Please promise me you'll try
When you find that, once again, you long
    To take your heart back-
[As CARLOTTA is singing, a backdrop crashes to the floor, cutting her off from half the cast.]
    [MEG, BALLET GIRLS & ENSEMBLE]
He's here: the Phantom of the Opera...
He is with us, it's the ghost...
He's here! The Phantom of the Opera...
He is with us, it's the ghost...
    [ANDRE]
Heavens! Will you show a little courtesy?
    (spoken)
[FIRMIN (to MEG and the OTHERS)]
    Mademoiselle, please!
    [ANDRE (to CARLOTTA)]
    These things do happen
    [CARLOTTA]
Si! These things do happen! Well, until you stop these things happening, this thing does not happen!
    [MEG]
Christine Daaé could sing it, sir
    [FlRMIN]
    The chorus girl?
    [GIRY]
Let her sing for you, monsieur. She has been well taught
    [CHRISTINE, sung]
Think of me, think of me fondly
    When we've said goodbye
Remember me, once in a while
    Please, promise me you'll try
When you find that, once again, you long
To take your heart back and be free
If you ever find a moment
    Spare a thought for me
We never said our love was evergreen
Or as unchanging as the sea
But if you can still remember
    Stop and think of me
    Think of all the things
    We've shared and seen
    Don't think about the things
    Which might have been
Think of me, think of me waking
    Silent and resigned
    Imagine me trying too hard
To put you from my mind
Recall those days, look back on all those times
Think of the things we'll never do
There will never be a day
When I won't think of you
    [RAOUL]
Can it be? Can it be Christine?
    Bravo!
What a change! You're really not a bit
The gawkish girl that once you were
    She may not remember me
    But I remember her
    [CHRISTINE]
We never said our love was evergreen
Or as unchanging as the sea
But please promise me that sometimes
    You will think...
    [CHRISTINE vocalizing.]
    -of me!

She did the phrase "or as unchanging as the sea"twice, when the second time it should have been "flowers fade the fruits of summer fade they have their season so do we"

I think that's the movie version by Emmy Rossum. Freya sings the original lyrics from the original musical theater, sung by Sarah Brightman.

Dear Freya, I really wanna sing this song. ''Think of me'', but Im an Alto, so its very hard for me, to even sing that song, because Im no soprano! Is it possible, you can make a karaoke/instrumental for 'Think of me'' in Alto version. So I can practice on it.

SAME!!! I'm an Alto and can barely hit the high notes and I would like for there to be one for Altos. My sister is a soprano and can play the piano and absolutely LOVES Phantom. Since she can sing he high notes and I can sing everything else she plays and sings Christine and Carlotta. Then she has me sing Madame Giry, Meg Giry, Piangi, the managers, Erik, and Raoul. I have been working on hitting the higher notes on my own but it is so bad. They need to make the whole show possible for Altos.

Audra Horton I absolutely agree with you on this. Musical are mostly for girls soprano and mezzo a rare few in alto. But adele, whitney are alto. I like there songs. But musical is my life so i rather sing musicals. Its sad that looking for musical karaoke/instrumental is hard to find. Especially think of me or phantom of the opera. Because i saw a low key on that. Still it was high.

same here! the only consolation: watching sopranos struggle with Raul's part while this is the easiest one for me (what else have we got?:))

This is very helpful. The last show I did was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. Before that show I thought I was a mezzo. It was community musical theater so we had only two high sopranos in the ensemble. There were some high A's in the score and I learned that I could sing them easily. As a matter of fact I learned that the highest notes were the most beautiful in my range. So now singing a high b is coming very naturally. It takes practice. Now, I routinely sing above my highest singable voice in exercises to make sure I'm explaining my vocal range. Thank you. I find your tutorials very good.

I don’t have proper breathing control and I end up running out of breath in the middle of a part. Mostly when I’m about to hit a highnote
Edit: I’m kinda getting the hang of it. I tend to push more air out when the highnote comes
