didn't expect the outcome would be that awesome!!!! nice video btw
Complex issues explained in such easy manner. Thanks.
Your 10 min clip will change my way of camera holding forever! Thanx a lot!
Thank you for the great tips! I have watched a lot of these videos on to holding the camera steady and this is the best one.
Thanks Pye!! I've been "following" SLR Lounge on UA-cam and Twitter, but I didn't know it until you said it on CreativeLIVE Monday, that awesome class, that you were the founder of SLR Lounge!!
Loved your CreativeLIVE class, because it began where I am at right now and led out from there, step by step in detail. And thanks for coming back into the chatroom the next day and saying hi to us all. That was awesome and now I'm going to watch you 101 class, for sure!!
This is a great video as well. I've shot in a lot of low light settings, and have sometimes had to shoot slow and I"ve gotten pretty good at it but I can always get better!! I'm left-handed and my strong eye is my right eye, so I pretty much hold the camera exactly like you do. So it was good for me to learn that. And I'm guessing I'm not the only "leftie" who does.
One thing I've noticed is that my goddess Lindsay Adler, when she shoots vertical, rotates the camera clockwise, while I rotate it counterclockwise. As I think you did in your CreativeLIVEa class. I've been thinking about that. Is one way more stable than the other? I don't know.
Anyway, thanks for founding SLR Lounge and thanks for coming to CreativeLIVE this week. Loved it!!!!!

Simple and working tips, great video! Thanks much!
thks very much - i have improved so much...grateful
The elbow shelf totally helps when wielding the Pentax 6x7 with 200m lens. Gret tips!
I have trouble with steadiness so I'm going to try that 'elbow shelf' shot. I've never heard of that before.
Great video, knowledge and humor.
Your photos turned out great! Can't wait to try this myself.
Throw away position #4. won't work at all. use kneeling instead.
Here are the ways hunters and sharpshooters use in order of accuracy:
SHOOTING POSITIONS IN ORDER OF BEING MOST ACCURATE:
#1 PRONE. #2 SITTING. #3 KNEELING. #4 STANDING
Kneeling is with 1 knee on the ground, the other used as a rest for your elbow [as in sitting].
Also try a "modified weaver stance" [Google it]; As this would also be beneficial.
Your panning shots look super cool, thanks for the inspiration..
Thank you for the tips. This video is greatly helpful
great tips mate. could be useful for next shot. cheers
A little long winded in the beginning but it turned around and ended up being a fantastic video. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the great tip my good sir.
I just want to cry. You're just amazing!!!! 🤩😍😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰
Thanks for the great video and epic shots at the end.
Great ideas. These can be used even for video recording

+SLR Lounge | Photography Tutorials You are the best thing to have happened to me this month LOL LOL :D Thanks so much
Really useful brother...
I did the slav squat technique and ripped my pants, now I am using the breathing technique to keep myself calm, I will call a taxi and get to it froggy-styled probably.
Great pointers! Thanks.
I need that shirt.
"I see a Volkswagen bug coming" lol
Nice tricks.. Tnx.
Thanks they are very helpful
ha ha -yes we like the froggy style jump. too funny. thanks for the tips!
GREAT.
Excellent tips. I don't like the limiting movement of tripods at all.
Nice tips Pye great video!
I subscribed on this video bro, amazing information, and such a high-end video - stay awesome!
thank you so much
Superb tips
Wow this is awesome
If you have a fairly long camera strap you can leave it around your neck and tension out on it and that is a big help also. Much like using a rifle sling.
this is really great ideas....thankyou :)
I love your video's and it really helps thank u sir
Thank you for sharing
Great tips. From the "Lounge of Pye" ... :)
good job thank you for this video i love it
Thank you!
Great Job!
Professional looking photos 👌,, I have a question how can I choose to make the focus on the car specific,,, I don't think I have this option in my camera (Canon EOS 4000D)
nice t-shirt and a gr8 video .
4:34 do you like that little groggy style 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks, this video really helped! :)
Great video. Anyone knows what hood he's using on the kit lens?
(looks like it's not the normal hood designed for 18-55)
Rahmat Mulyawan That is actually the standard kit hood.
thks alot...
Thank you for this video :)
thanks so much !
The other tip is to use 2 second shutter delay. This means you’re not moving when the shutter fires. Only useful in certain scenarios clearly.
Good Video, Great Humor.
Anyone knows what lens hood he is using on that 18-55mm? Thanks
That squat pose was epic lol😅😅😅😅.
Grt vdo...
Really good advice. One thing missing -- how to press the shutter release button so it doesn't cause camera shake. Some cameras make it easy and require very little pressure -- others require too much. Try before you buy ! (My Lumix FZ300 has the best release I've yet encountered).
yeah, i know it's 2 years, but i can share my protip. i am on Nikon, here we have Quiet shutter mode where mirror moves more gently, for one it lowers shakyness in really long exposures, but also prolongs a bit time between shutter press and image to be captured. Other method i use is in menu called "exposure delay". While set to 1sec you need to be a second ahead with your scene but in combination with breathing technique, when correct timing is met you can press shutter right before ex/inhaling ends and capture image free of shutter-shake.
@@lis6502 Agreed! Using a timer to release shutter a few seconds after pressing it certainly helps. These days I have a new mental technique: I say to myself "I am a tripod" and try to act accordingly....
Great tips! Thank you! I have trouble holding my camera steady so I’m excited to try these out.
sir can u please give the detail of lens hood u used?
The standard hood that came with the lens
Very helpful video please make a video how to take shots from the lens with out IS
Awais Fazal same techniques, with or without IS.
Thanks
woa..owesome.. am just beginner after all.. :D but what camera u use?
Very practical :)
What camera are you using in this video? Answer please.
+Yen Quinto its the nikon D3300
Great video you guys, just one question. In what autofocus mode did you shoot?? I suppose continuous, am I right?
***** Generally single shot.
SLR Lounge | Photography Tutorials ok, thanks!!!!
SLR Lounge | Photography Tutorials I thought I heard Pye said that he was going to prefocus (ie. manual).
Do you put the camera in burst mode CH instead of single shot.
Sir which camera i should buy nikon d3300 or nikon d5300
I loved the panning shots. That will get people out there with their cameras. But when it comes to hand holding for slow shutter speeds I think what you offered is the standard what everyone else teaches. Do a search for Theoria Apophasis and watch some of his videos. I believe he offers better ways to holding the camera that will be more of a help to people.
How do I get to that video in the EndCard?
Phillip Dorset you can click right on the video which will take you to the article with the video!
Ahh when I watched the video, it wasn't linked up ;)
Sir, for voluptuous ladies the elbow shelf is just perfect - you see, the elbows tucked in might be a bit of a problem ;)
nicee content ever
Froggy style 😂😂
if youre left or right handed isnt it still the same grip.
true! hahahaa
i myself is a left handed using a right girp
Tony Bushmin this dude is a overthinking idiot
@@Ahguang85 logically, wouldn't that allow you to take steadier photos since you are keeping the camera steady with your dominant hand?
snipers use the hand on shoulder technique ;) PS what are the best porttrait holding shots a lot people dont show these???
What do you mean by "best portrait holding shots?"
SLR Lounge | Photography Tutorials a photo rotation is either called portrait or landscape right, being vertical and horizontal. Some people suggest in vertical mode holding the grip upwards but than there is not steady elbow
manfrotto tripods are bad asses
LOL at 1:01... I like Pye Jirsa and all, but I need this explained to me:
"If you're right handed, use your left hand under the lens"???
Someone, anyone, tell me how a left handed person could shoot any differently?
sjs Left handed camera? Or maybe pointing the camera at your face instead of the subject?
***** You got it... I'm left handed, and I have yet shot one handed because of the way it's set up. Even tried it upside-down and the shutter is under my pinkey.
sjs, have you been able to shoot with your left hand after three years of practice? I suppose that Pye has published a similar video shooting left-handed, I just have not been able to find it, lol.
The less contact points on the camera, less shake.
subbed
What camera is he using?
Bro went scientific 😂
Define “slow” shutter speed please. :)
It's all relative but in general anything below 1/30th of a second would be on the slow side in my opinion
I've always held my breath... don't know why.
Im a csgo and cod trained sniper and i approve that regulate breathing technique. You can also use it to slay demons
my hands shake while takeing photos how do i stop that?
I believe the camera is not made to take pictures only in landscape mode.. there is something called portraiture mode. Which most of us use. Thanks anyways for the Tips which is of no use to me.
Froggy Style! Lol!
If your left you still hold it like a right handed due to the controls
6:18 - 6:32 🤣
Tell me; Anybody out there with a left handed camera?
What is video lens?!?!
Man take camera
Haaha THE PYEPOD lol.
Could have done this video in half the time. Oh look, a witty photographer t-shirt.
That's.. ambiguous. You should do much better to take night shot without tripod. Unless you have some super bright lenses.
I cant hold a camera or more than 30 mins.... atm..
don't breath so you can also have a steady shot
who watch this in 2022?
Or you buy an Olympus E-M1 X and get 4 second stabilize shots............................
:D
Where the heck is your neck strap? You're throwing the camera all over the place and no matter how much of a professional you are, it is only a matter of time before you will drop the camera.
The elbow shot looks very weird and silly !
+johan bauwens But it works!
