The New York Knicks are one of the most improved teams going into next NBA season. The Mikal Bridges trade definitely made the Knicks alot better but they also lost Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency. With Mitchell Robinson being incredibly injury prone this is why Jericho Sim's potential emergence will be ultra important next season. He's got potential to be a great center, this video will explain why.

Will Jericho Sims breakout for the Knicks next season?
He has no choice but too.. this is his final chance. Very athletic guy.. but he seems soft & scared of contact. his highlights is never when defended.
Yes
@@chrisconnors9449 Actually, his best highlights occur when he takes his man one-on-one off the dribble from the arc in or at the iso-low post. Think the Knick O is crazy or just too rigid and conservative not to run more plays for this guy...
@@Ariel-b8h I meant literally posting a man back (1 on 1) style..
Lol no. He and I Will avg the same amount of points and rebs this year
One of the few and only critically intelligent, honest, fair, objective and informed analyses of Jericho Sim's game- strengths, flaws, areas for improvement, potential AND problematic limited role in this Knick offense that neglects its 5's ( see iHart, Mitch's complaints) on UA-cam. Thank you.
No problem man 💯
I agree this young brother is very astute at what he's doing.
Sooooo, what are you saying, that Sims won't work for our offensive scheme or our Coach Thibs' offensive scheme doesn't work for Sims?
If either one is true, Sims is OUUTA here, because the Coach is here to stay. It would be nice, since we drafted him, that he becomes this season's "Deuce" for us and he picks up the baton from I Hart and keep the band marching on. We'll see.
@@michaelsherron5750 Saw a stat somewhere that for players playing a minimum threshold of mins(don't recall what that was) two yrs ago, Sims had the lowest % of usage on O (Mitch was 2nd or 3rd but still alot more than Jericho) which resonated with what I saw; last year, he played even less.
As such, it's not irrational to believe that IND, DEN, BOS and HOU (maybe MEM, MN and perhaps not unironically, OKC) would be better "fits" bc they run more dynamic and spontaneous offenses or clearly need a low post rebounder or offer passing or stretch 5's that'd let him play P4.
It doesn't help that except for Deuce, the Knicks either don't or can't lob or make pnr conversions, esp after IQ, RJ and QG left and Julius got injured.
No matter how effective Sims may be driving it in, iso-low posting or dunking on the lob or fastbreak (or for that matter, hitting that 4-14 foot shot), none of that will happen if no one calls a play for you, no one passes you back the ball and if the team expects you to pass it back out to the "better shooters" every time you get an offensive rebound.
Thibs' role for 5's in his O, JB's willingness or ability to risk "threading the needle" getting the ball into the paint or around the rim and even Jericho's attitude ( a need to be more selfish and aggressive about getting his shots off instead of just functioning as a screen and decoy; demanding the ball more from his teammates or even coach bc even tho he is often free, our guards seem unwilling or incapable of getting the ball in to him or Mitch; Kolek would help here but who knows how many.mins he will get with Sims on the floor this year...) would have to change.
Of course if Mitch doesn't get injured or miss much more than 30 g and is here come PLO time, Precious shows he can do this again (don't think Precious can get away with it a second time around; he is still just 6'8" and though a good athlete with excellent lateral movement, Sims' 'athleticism is Olympian by comparison to anyone that size and is what lets him hang with players 3-5" taller than he) or acquire another capable real center to either backup Mitch and/or Jericho, much of this may not matter as much as it seems now.
Bottom line, tho, is that I am sure Jericho can replace iHart if he gets 25 m consistently and regularly a game and his team finally opts to feed him the ball and let - nay, want- him to shoot.
As for his defense, the man has ELITE defensive potential. Anyone who says he can't play defense bc of an obvious error here or there doesn't know how unique he is (and yet could be) as the most agile 5 in the NBA. Have seen the man on occasion at various points these past 2-3 years shut down Embiid, KD, Joker, Robert Williams lll, Kessler, Claxton, Sabonis and Sengun.
Before anyone cries, "iHart!", I'd remind them Embiid ate him for lunch on one leg and a paralysis disorder and the IND frontline manhandled him to the point that it seemed there was no one in the paint or at the rim; we got blown out THREE times by 30 points and ihart didn't even score in G7! Luv me iHart, miss him, wished he had stayed but he was no savior, either.
I believe Jericho can do it but as you say, we'll see how it all unfolds...
@@moorehoops3490why you leave Moore 😢
Well said about our bigs not getting enough touches…. Your doing great kid. Respect
Thanks alot man
I'm glad you mentioned how Sims can switch on to perimeter players, when the Knicks drafted Jericho Sims,I went and watched some scouting videos,of him in college and the thing that jumped out to me,was how well he moved his feet for a big and it's nice that he's working on his offensive game, but,I think if he can work on his defense rotations being tight, grab rebounds and being even more consistent as a rim protector, that will most likely win Thibs over. We'll see what happens, remember, when the Knicks signed Hartenstein,he wasn't known as a rim protector and under Thibs,he became pretty good at it,let's see if Bryant and Thibs can help Sims reach another level
I remember watching him shut-down Tyler Hero, on the perimeter - who, just couldn’t find a lane around Simms on multiple possessions. It has been my impression that Simms doesn’t get credit for how good his defense actually is, because sometimes modern analytics cast a player’s game amidst whatever lineup soup they happen to be playing in. This affects limited reserves much more acutely than high-usage players. If Simms can come in and hit face-up jumpers from 5-10’ with any consistency, then it becomes a whole different conversation around this young guy, who never complains, and always produces when given the chance.
To me that's why we did so well with I heart once he got playing time. He kept defenses honest. He could shoot, dribble or pass when needed an play good defense. Sims or Robinson can't dribble, shoot or even pass so we wind up playing 4 on 5 cause teams no they not going to do anything with the ball.
I think with more playing time, he'll gain more confidence. I believe lack of confidence is what has been holding him back.
Agreed
I think Jericho is gonna be this seasons Deuce for this team and have an impactful season for NY. He had a higher defensive rating than both Mitch and IHart last season and is a better perimeter defender than both of them. We all know he’s a super freak athlete & Thibs has voiced his love for the kid multiple times in interviews and he’s been working with Bibby to expand his offensive game, first offseason healthy too
He's got all the physical. Injury free Sims could be huge.
Fingers crossed he stays healthy🤞🏽
Love the idea of Sims but he has a negative BBIQ and little feel for the game. If he really has put in the work behind the scenes this offseason I'll be happy to eat my words but I don't think he is the answer at backup C.
Agreed
@@purrpleciity1 I like his attitude and physique--when he can hit 5-6 footers I will be excited.
man just has to become more aggressive more often sometimes he seems timid out there
was wondering if he's depressed also as he has this stoic face almost always. Do also see this guy as a gem with proper training and support
Any knicks fan will tell you that sims is very frustrating to watch. He has all the tools but he just can’t catch the fucking ball nor dunk when is close to the ring at 7’ with a 44” vertical
He can't catch the ball? He can't dunk? Those are the least of his issues honestly. He can dunk for sure 😂😂
@@taemac10 figuratively speaking, of course he can dunk. It just happens time after time again that he below the basket, struggles to catch a simple pass and does some weak ass layup which misses rather than yamming that bitch through the rim. Mfer is 7’ with a 40+ inch vert, he should always dunk it when he is inside 5 feet.
Watching this video ‘ I think he did all of that ‘ catching dunking rebounding and on defense
You must be watching games in an alternate universe.
I really like sims alot... this is a great video what i see but not much people talk about him in this manner
He's gone under the radar but I think he can become a great role player
However many minutes he plays, he should jump at center for the opening jump ball . I think he's better than Robinson at this, and it might keep Robinsons ankles from being injured.
@moorehoops3490 bruh he going on 4 years and hasn't developed anything but foul players soon as he gets in all he does is jump

I've come to measure BBIQ in Knick fans by the kind of criticism they make of our players, the loudest, most negative and most in-line with "the majority opinion" often the worst, but that truth applies the other way, too, the most "worshipful" of our heroes seeing no "evil" ever, the cult of "Novadom" born, sometimes at fault, too, for what they don't "see" or think they do or don't:
Anyone who cannot see the ELITE DEFENSIVE potential Sims represents in his extraordinary agility for a man his size and his sheer ability to cover more ground on the court than perhaps ANY center in the league cannot possibly see that which Thibs and Leon clearly do in him, utterly clueless in their "personal basketball opinion" ("He seems 'lost" out there to me"...as he literally roams the whole court from rim to arc defending against almost anyone 1-5 on the other team with the best closeouts of any 5 in the league, something neither Mitch, Precious (nor ihart, for that matter) can do).
As someone who actually watches almost every single minute of every game, all that you say above is true for any unprejudiced viewer, Knick Twitter World apparently displaying its heartbreak at the loss of ihart by calling for trading Julius and Deuce, trashing Mitch and scapegoating Jericho for Hartenstein's free decision to leave.
What Knick fans refuse to do, however, is hear what Isiah himself said was the primary reason for moving on to OKC: excitement at having a bigger role in the offense there with more scoring opportunities (throw in an extra $18 million and we got a deal...).
I, for one, believe him because I, too, have seen how few plays Thibs' system has for its centers, seemingly expected to get all their points from offensive rebounds alone. Compared to a more dynamic, spontaneous and running type of system in which athletic players like Sims thrive (see Obi in IND), the Knick offense is deliberately slow (almost always stopping fast break chances, jhart the exception bc he doesn't look to the bench before taking off, the team near last in the NBA in transition points AND assists), mechanical, predictable and basically driven by and for two players only, particularly after IQ and RJ left, everyone else to stand at the three or chase a rebound if JB or someone else misses.
Such systems tend to be "error-phobic", one (or two, we shall see) man dependent and hardly conducive to trying anything new, especially since Brunson does what he does so well, which is iso-post one-on-one. Now that he has reached glory by scoring near 30 points a game and playing endless minutes, I fear we won't see Kolek in this rotation much at all, the only guard who appears able and willing to share the ball with others and set them up to score (in this case, Mitch and Jericho) and for the latter in particular to shine (as all his clips from college, SL and GL show he can...)
but as a right "fit":
Unless Thibs evolves, JB shares and Kolek plays and/or Sims decides to be a bit more selfish when the ball's in his hands, more aggressive looking for his own shot and yes, less deferential to JB and demand the ball more ( and at the risk of Thibs' disapproval at times, ask to play the P4 sometimes, also, where he really absorbs the rebounds and vastly outjumps men his own height rather than trying to do it against players 3, sometimes 5 inches taller, a tough task no matter his godlike vertical leaping powers that allow him to compensate enough to play the 5...), we will not see what Jericho Sims is very well capable of in New York, sadly, and then we will witness online mobs blame him (and Mitch, perhaps, again) for what Thibs system or perhaps its superstar point guard doesn't want or need to do (and sometimes I wonder, can and cannot do, as the Knick PnR had among the fewest conversions of any team in the league last season).
Let's hope for the best because we may very well need Jericho Sims to become the player he can so that the Knicks become the championship team we want and need, too, or risk wasting what should be a 10-10 2bl a game solid reserve on the bench accusing him then of being unable to do what Thibs' restricted vision for his 5's and JB's style won't let him do (or just the competition for time against THREE other centers to evade a quick "yank" at the first "mistake"...).
It's time to unleash Jericho Sims and if not, I hope he escapes the Knicks and makes it to that "better fit" in IND, DEN, HOU, BOS or yes, maybe OKC, someday, too.
All of what you said. I posted a few time on Reddit about Sims, and how he's going to break out this year, coming in injury free... I got crucified. I too watch every second of every game. Precious is a slippery guy, could be a really good 4, but he has no ups. Sims has one of the best verticals in the league, and he's already 6'10". If I'm honest, when he, Grimes and Deuce were drafted I finally got the NBA package to watch every game. His playing time last year was terrible. He had a real shot when Mitch went down, but then he sprained his ankle, ugh.
When you watch him, you see him always blocking out, tapping out rebounds, rebound and find the shooter, he never looks for his own numbers...
Great comment!
Super good breakdown. I never noticed these things about Sim's
Thanks alot man
We are GOOD just the way we are - let's RUN IT BACK! Another great vid - TYVM.
Great Job on this ! Jericho just needs more court time & the confidence of his Coach to propel him to heights unknown ! Go Knicks 🏀✊🏾
Nicely done...I see the upside. But can we keep him healthy? Happy to have this homegrown talent.
Im a big Jericho Sims fan .. thanks for the video
No problem man
appreciate the well thought out video. a lot of the fanbase has given up on him.
this is to play devil's advocate.
i don't think sims has the saavy to be a threat on the offensive end, not even on the bench unit. scouting reports on him are going to be easy, and because of the way the team is we're staggering brunson and randle for some of the lineups.
we need the gravity, we need the shot creation. in both lineups, whether sims plays or not, the paint is rather clogged. this is probably one of the reasons why we have clips of sims practicing his 3-ball. there's no telling when the knicks offense gets figured out, but flexibility shoots up tremendously when we can get our 4's and 5's to shoot.
as i said, the scouting reports on jericho sims are going to be simple. unless he shows incredible.. i mean incredible growth and explosiveness, thibs will not be using or trusting him to play in a way that best utilizes his athletic strengths. the only way forward with sims is if we are able to play through him, kind of like joakim noah on the bulls while he becomes a defensive juggernaut.
this may never happen his entire career let alone this one year.
I forgot how good Sims was at sliding his feet and defending the perimeter. I think a defined role and consistent minutes will help Sims. And I've heard tibs say in the past that he was confident in Sims. I think we'll be fine as long as mitch can play 50 games and is healthy for the playoffs this year. That's his average
I wish Thibs would give him consistent minutes. I don’t feel like we get much drop off from Mitch and this would give him confidence. I’m only talking about 10 -15 min. Not just when there are injuries.
Agreed, I think he deserves a bigger role
That take you gave on Brunson using pick n roll to feed the roller more was so on the money, I couldn't have said it better myself. That's how I know you are a real Knick fan that watches the games. That's why I'm subscribed to you.
Thanks for your support 💯
i agree. I was telling my Knicks group that he needs to work with some bigs like Boogie, or Drummond. He doesn't show any post moves in games. Besides last season. When he showed a little spark of a handle
I think his play against Denver (when he started)was an excellent glimpse into his potential. I believe in him he just like you said needs more playing time
Good video! Congrats for doing a great job!
@@drDeStH I appreciate it man 💯
You can definitely see with him, his athleticism that he can have that breakout season. I just question his availability. There was a point last year when he had an opportunity to grab a hold of the position and didn’t because he was sick. I want to say. Not the first time that that has happened with him hopefully this upcoming year is different. Let’s go Knicks.
Channel is bugging. No way this guy is a beast. Who ever says he is doesn’t know basketball. Period
They definitely need to feed the roller more on the screen, used to piss me off sometimes they are wide open
Talk to them youngin 💯 👏 💪
Claxton is a String bean -although muscular while Sims is a beast...very different builds imo
This was pretty good analysis of Sims… I think all of NYC are waiting to see Sims breakout and become a pivotal part of this team. I think u comparing him to Claxton, we can only hope! I actually think u were right about Brunson needing to give his big men more touches. I do think it’s Mitch’s job to lose! I for one as a fan am SICK of him not playing a full season
Another great video! I hope Sims can improve his offensive game.
I hope so too
Excellent video right to the point I was hoping the Knicks were not going to get another Center I always liked this kid he just does not get enough playing time give this kid playing time he's going to shock a lot of people
brunson made a push to be an all star by, playing high minutes and taking more shots. Him passing more early will benefit the team down the road.
Sims needs that dawg in him. He got a strong body but no spirit. Gotta see some hustle in his step
They got to let this man cook.
He has more handle and athleticism than Mitch. Young bones.

Those skills that Sims is working on will come in handy for whatever team he goes to after the Knicks.
Dang you’re already predicting he goes to another team 😭
@@moorehoops3490
At some point I'm sure he will but the main point I was trying to imply is that he'll never be used in the offense. His points will come from clean ups and lob passes. Thibs will never post him up and never allow him to take a jumper.
@@MikeBesk
Agreed. It’s a shame the knicks dont involve their centers on offense. I also blame JB. I think Sims would average over 10 ppg if he played alongside Trae Young easily.
@@moorehoops3490
He's definitely got the athleticism to do so.
The way you described Sims sounds a lot like Precious. And they’re both on contract years. I know Thibs likes to play 9-guys usually, but I think it’d be a good idea to extend it to 10 just both Precious and Jericho can get some burn in their contract years. Can also help the team a lot too by taking pressure off Mitch.
It's about Sims health because we haven't seen his true potential but if he's healthy it's time for him to step up.
The real issue with Sims is I.Q. Even on defense which is supposed to be his specialty, he often looks lost when teams run offball action where his man is involved. On offense its worse. He has all the tools he just needs to sharpen his focus.
I❤the Knicks. Just wish Thibs would give these guys a chance.
Great video bro
Thanks alot man
Having Precious as a guy to copy should be great for Jericho.
He has all the tools needed. I am waiting.
I wish the game embraced the mid-range game. If he could just hit the shot from the elbow free throw line. Would open up his whole game.
Word, because he’s shown he can take guys off the dribble.
Being in the second unit with Kolek will get Sims well fed.
If Kolek is in the rotation, Deuce & Cam Payne could be ahead of him.
This is his perfect opportunity to show his skills ‘ I think he’ll do better with more playing time
Agreed, he should get more minutes this season than he ever got in his career.

He has the athleticism. We need to invest into his game but he needs to want it that bad.
Knicks need a center that's not a liability at the ft line. That's what kept Ihart on the floor in crunch time
He needs to cut his hair or braid it to get a new look and attitude in addition to changing his jersey to number 20. Sometimes a simple thing as a hair cut will change your attitude and does wonders. If he does not come out hot this year he will be gone in a trade!!!
We know he has hops but his offensive game is Alley oops, alley oops and more alley oops. If he had a midrange, the Knicks would not be looking for a backup to Mitch.
The New York Knicks need to start Sims at center. Stop looking around, give him a chance. You will be surprised.
Simms hasn’t shown anything but lack of dog, lack of game awareness, no idea how to protect the rim and no offensive game or IQ… is hard to “teach” these things… doubt he’ll ever be a starting center… he’s been living off of his athleticism which he doesn’t even use that well… but I guess we can hope he improves
Thibs always goes for veterans so it’s hard for young guys to develop if they have players in their position
True but with Ihart gone this could be Sim’s chance
Give him a 3 year minimum deal then when he gets a max contract from OKC we can have more than 72.5m to sign him
Let's go Sims
Sims reminds me of Kevin Knox when it comes to his drive. He has all the tools but just seems like he lacks the ambition to be great. Just goes with the flow.
Yo, I'm gonna tell you the only true issue right now. His age lol.. He's very useful, until grown man muscle steps on the court. They are keeping him fresh and letting him age like wine. Hes not goin anywhere yet, they're just waiting for him to get a lil more developed. His time will come. Hopefully it's this year! Next year the latest. Fingers crossed 🤞 🤞
Fingers crossed he breaks out next season 🤞🏽
He needs to do something with that fro and look more intimidating change his number something he gives benchwarmer. Needs to play angry
Man you had me believing Sims was actually a good player lol. Good job.
Did you have a video clip of him making a jumpshot? Or him driving the ball to the basket? PLEASE DONT IGNORE THE QUESTION!!!!
Did you watch the whole video? I put in 3 clips of him driving to the basket towards the end. I couldn't find any examples of him making in jumpers in games.
@moorehoops3490 I didn't watch it because he's not a beast. UA-camrs when it's offseason and theres nothing to report on 🤦♂️
He did shoot it a few times two years ago and was fairly efficient (fewer and less last year, however...).
One good sign is that he's improved his FT% shooting from 41% his first season to 66% last year (did hover around 75% most of the year, tho') and 75% the year before that, so he should be willing to take the ball up when he has it or gets an OR.
As for drives, he's appeared utterly unstoppable on the few occasions he's taken his man one-on-one from the arc, top of the key or foul line- mini-Giannis attack- and I think the Knicks are crazy to not be feeding him to iso-post.
None of this, however, will change much if Thibs continues to not run any plays for his centers, JB is unable to lob or thread the PnR needle (or even ever pass it back, for that matter!), Sims is not encouraged to shoot it more (rather than just screen and hand it back to JB) or he doesn't get enough regular minutes consistently and, perhaps most importantly of all, play enough time next to Kolek until they "gel" whom I do believe can and will "find" him by using space across the whole court and hence create passing lanes for him (and others) rather than only-always going into screen-and-iso mode and dragging everyone else into the paint, a problem for the centers then forced to fight for rebounds (much less scoring opportunities) with guards and forwards there, too.
Luv me JB, am grateful, he and Julius are the essentials of our offense but his high usage dribble-dribble-forever style and inability to blow by people (doesn't have to bc his game relies on his extraordinary old school footwork, tough physical contact-balance and remarkable "grace" under heavy pressure) limits the O sometimes too much to a "drive and kick if I'm stuck" mode, an approach that can inhibit at times as much as open up plays for the rest of the team.

knicks should get one more center who is at least 7' 1" and another forward who is at least 6' 10". Both should be athletic, can jump, rebound, score efficiently, block shots, be strong, etc.
These guys don't grow on trees.
I believe that you replied to a previous time I made this comment. There are several candidates which, more or less, fit the bill and would likely be feasible to obtain.
@@jcyt0511 If they are out there the Don Leon will find them.
Sims should be having a career like cavs Allen. Theres no reason he can play that style or role and excelling.
Remember THIBS was Clueless what he had in IHART as per Tim Bontemps. He didn't play him and rather than play him he called Taj and then that didn't work then he used SIMS and that was a Disaster and when he was forced he used IHART and the Results were Excellent so I hope Sims improved and the Knicks don't repeat their Stupid Mistake of realizing what they had which they could have sign him Mid season and instead of letting him walk when they could have sewn him up before Mitch went down
If u actually watch Sims play you’ll see he has the IQ of Kwame Brown. Goes for every block and gives up offensive rebounds. Doesn’t know what to do with the ball if it falls in his hands. He’s lucky he’s so big and athletic or he’d be overseas.
Maybe if Robinson stayed off the injured list he'll get more touches
I like simms , but he’s not aggressive enough and his awareness isn’t there . He could be a physical beast if he worked harder
This is his last chance to prove himself .
He had surgery like yesterday smh
If he increases his FT%, he will get more touches
I’m rutting for Sims big time he has the ability to be a contributor
He is nice. He just had to play a certain role. They have to stop that and just let him play.
sims gets no mins that's a head coach call im sure I believe in the young brother .. Duce stepped up im sure sims can too
has to learn to shoot with some consistency. to open up the middle.
A midrange game would make a world of a difference
Sims has shown little improvement in 3 seasons. Thibs sees him every day and doesn't think he's deserving of more minutes. If the team thought Sims was a capable backpu they wouldn't be looking under every rock for a backup big man

The only thing it think u got wrong was Sims looks like a deer in headlights @ times n it’s FRUSTRATING!!!! He should be KILLING THE BOARDS!!!
No experience. Tom don't like giving playing time to rookies
He should be a back up 4 not 5

Sims has no feel for the game and is extremely socially awkward (which matters even more in a team setting). Working with Bibby is ridiculous when he could reach out to Hakeem to train with a great big man. These bigs working on ball handling and perimeter shooting before their post footwork is a$$ backward.
I wish I could say that he can have a breakout season but let’s be realistic it won’t happen Thibs gave him a good minutes 2 seasons ago and he didn’t show any improvement or potential sadly
I agree completely with your analysis on Sims. He should definitely be the center back-up. He’s actually a better ball handler and free throw shooter than Mitchell Robinson. Actually, in close games he should be in the game at the close of the 4th quarter, to prevent the hack-a-Mitch strategy.

This is ridiculous! He can jump and on occasion, can rebound but there’s a reason that Thibs doesn’t play him that much. He’s a liability and he won’t get any better. Move on.
