- I'm going to be a different type of actuary
For the last 5.5 years I've worked as a personal lines pricing actuary in P&C insurance. Prior to that, I worked in data analytics. In this video I'll discuss the benefits of the different types of actuarial roles and announce the role that I will be taking when I return to work in July 2023
Bang. Good for you.
All the best with the IBNR calculations 😅
Thanks ❤️❤️
Will forever love your transparency of your journey. Did you say you hate change? It was unclear ha! Good luck to you going into this new area. As someone in Capital Modelling in commercial/Lloyd's business, it's interesting to see other applications of the actuarial profession in practice. Reserving is not a passion of mine, but I am aware that there is currently a working party in the IFoA for Machine Learning in Reserving and maybe there are insights there into how you could marry your Python with this new field? Particularly due to the lack of homogeneous data (and possibly spurious also) as you mentioned (never a fun problem to have!), it may be curious, for example, to see how ML could potentially identify hidden patterns in the data.
All in all, looking forward to your continued development and I'm glad you're still posting and hope you are doing well! Best x
I am sure you will do well :)
Interesting! All the best in your career shift! I’m not sure if Specialty lines is different in Canada, but at my company Specialty Auto included Boats, Motorcycles, RV homes, etc.
Interesting! I'll find out in a couple months, I suppose 🤣
Good luck to you. You must work for a big company. As a P&C actuary, I've always worked for small companies and do a little of everything: pricing, reserving, data analysis, earnings curves, product performance reporting. I'm getting tired just thinking about all the things I do.
🤣 sounds exhausting
@@Actuaryelle I used to like it but I'm not appreciated and that's what makes it tiring.
Oooh, I'm a specialty underwriter for a mid-size U.S.-based P&C company. I'm so curious about what line you'll be on, is it going to be just one or just "specialty" in general?
From my very limited experience, the reserve actuaries' are extremely important for my line due to actual pricing being determined by the underwriter which really differs from person to person/situation to situation. Should be a fun role and looking forward to possibly hearing more about it from you!
I have no idea. I would assume I'd work on various specialty lines but I really don't know. I'll set up a call with my manager closer to July and ask questions but for now I'll just live in ignorance 🤣
@@Actuaryelle Love the tension - keep things exciting! Please keep us loyal fans updated - p.s. if you truly want to mark your spot as the best actuarial influencer make sure to hit a music festival and vlog about it
I am on the path to becoming an actuary 😊 What do you think about a starting role as an employee benefits analyst at an insurance brokerage?
I think that would give lovely relevant work experience
hello, I want to study as an actuary, I'm 34 years old, do you think it's not too late? and English is my second language. I have two bachelors in law and metallurgy. Is it possible to find a job after graduation?
cool, the reason I am working hard is to change my life when I want to.
Yessss
can you work in england as an actuary
Hypothetically yes
What color is your wall? Can you answer like in RGB? lol
No idea. It was like this before I moved in 🤣
The upcoming change in your life is going to give me anxiety
You are too empathetic to my life's stresses. We are too similar, I suppose
Funny
Well, don't worry too much, the changes are not contagious! But if they are, @@Actuaryelle, make sure to wear a hazmat suit around her.
I don't know why...but I like her humor 😂.
Ldfs!
All the LDFs 🤣🤣
Maybe get a professional mick
The audio was so bad on this video 🤣🤣 I had to use the audio correction tool to try to fix it and it sounds so tinny 🤣🤣
