Like the way you had a Golf R estate tucked next to it when you talked about it being a q car. Neat!
I'd still take the Golf R Estate instead
Totally agree, physical buttons are so much better. Getting the right balance with new touchscreen tech and buttons for a decent driving experience. Manufacturers need to figure out the right mix.
Gordon Murray considers touch screen controls on a super car dangerous and I agree, even on a hot hatch.
@@scottjohnson4319 I think it's hilarious that driving and using your smartphone is known to be incredibly dangerous (and has thus been made illegal pretty much everywhere) and yet every manufacturer insists on having a massive tablet slapped on every new vehicle's dashboard, often forcing drivers to go through it even for simple functions like climate control.
Pretty sure studies have come out and said that infotainment screens have been shown to be almost as distracting to drivers as smartphone use, if not just the same. But money talks and as long as it's profitable for manufacturers to use touch screens and capacitive touch buttons, they'll likely stick around.
Agree!. Cars ar for driving! Not for entertaining you wile driving.
Its just danger
Cmon VAG gotta make back whatever billion they lost on the bluemotion bs lol.....the cupra is better but touch buttons suck D regardless ......i mean i havent been able to text and drive since the 3210
Agreed the blending is important. Love the blend of buttons and the center touchscreen on my 992.
I'm definitely using the phrase 'like a squirrel up a sunflower' as soon as the comedic and no doubt mildly inappropriate circumstances allow! 😂
Just pmsl at that bit hehe genius!
We had squirrel and sunflowers in our garden.... The squirrel ate the heads off the sunflowers... We didn't find it comical at all, it just made me hate the b*stard, hairy, tree-rats!
Me too
Thought the same when I heard it 😂
Ooh, always instantly love it when Henry reviews more attainable cars.
Would absolutely love if this channel focused on more attainable cars equally as the dream toys.
this guy does magic with his reviews
so good
The switches and dash interface is much better on this car, instead of the stupid 'iPad' and absurd menus on the new car...Integrated design & physical buttons better! Great vid Henry. 👍🏻
Such a cool car..thank you for sharing - it's one not shown normally in reviews!
That's a blast from the - soon - past.
We will miss those cars!
Every review on this channel is always positive... It's like those 'Travel' sections of Sunday newspapers where some C-lister is paid to go somewhere exotic and then gush about it
Good to bump into you today Henry. I just wanted to say what stunning quality I always find your videos. And by far one of the best car reviewers. Sorry I called you the car guy. Your name escaped me in the moment.
Wow...I just "liked" a video about a crossover. Henry, you truly are a miracle worker.
...and just like that, the sales of the TRoc R sky-rocketed
Nice review - you seem to cover all the topics I would wish somebody would cover before buying a new car. The NVH and ride quality is very important and would like more info on that for any car tested.
One thing I like about the styling of the golf r and t-roc r is how subtle it is. The Akropovic does look great. Who doesn’t like a bit of titanium on their car. Noticed that you parked to a golf r estate.
Thank you, awesome video!
Lovely opening shot
Nice touch parking next to that Mk7 R estate at the end !
Interestingly, he did not mention the bad hard plastic inside 🤔
Old news I suppose…..
Completey agree about buttons. For me, the top-level infotainment in the Mk7 (not 7.5) was and still is the best interface in VWs. Everything worked, no bugs or crashes. It was fast-responding and accompanied by physical buttons.
As an Australian, I feel like this is the perfect type of car for people who don't know about cars but want a crossover that's decent would buy for our roads. I'd have on as a daily.
No point getting the R if you don't know about cars really
Looking forward to the facelift R next year in Australia.
@@ScottZ370 A rollerskate R......if you know about cars you get the golf......who buys a worse handling, higher sitting, smaller boot version of the best point to point awd hatch on the planet ? idiots obvs
The proper Q-car was the Golf R estate/variant/wagon in the background. Many of us Colonialists would love to have had that as an option. Heck, even the T-Roc R would be a welcome addition.
Thanks for the quality production and review. You guys always put out high quality.
Except in North American we replaced all our estates wit SUVs long ago. There's no going back.
Finally! The review I've been waiting for
Enjoying the black golf r estate parked up next to it in the final shot!
'I like titanium.'
Yeah, me too, but I can't afford it so I'll stick with my steel bike!
You are allowed to say "I like titanium!" only if you have big pockets or if you had some kind of surgery to fix your bones with titanium bolts.
Likes like a really good day to day all-rounder!!!
I have had this car as a rental for 3weeks now, done I think 3000 km with it. It isn’t bad - what should be mentioned though, I have to fill it up every 400 km. For this reason, I would never buy it. But the review is great, many thanks for that. I would say, it is good as a squirrel on a sunflower!
Thank you
I have a Golf R estate, and had some warranty work done so had a T-Roc as a courtesy car, the interior felt cheap, and the boot is tiny. It was nice the slight rise in height, but my estate is more of a Q car than a T-Roc R I feel
golf interior is equally cheap.
@@stopstalkingyouspookybastard compared to my 7.5, the T-Roc door cards are so so cheap. I can't comment about the Golf 8.
You may as well just buy a Golf R estate if you want fun & practicality. Nice video though.
Apart from the thief appeal of the Golf R and the fact the estate isn’t legal/homologated for towing...well the mk7 wasn’t anyway, don’t know about later versions🤷🏼♂️
Or Hyundai i30N if you want an actual usable car, where infotainment system doesn't work like 10y old, cheap android phone
@@foysterrots8398 thief appeal is still a reason? Is it even possible to jack cars still or do u see yourself being held up for it?
@@papa_pt Golf R and RS3 were very common cars to be stolen by aggravated burglary if they couldn’t successfully scan the house to spoof keyless entry codes
@@Karto86 The i30N is a good shout, Hyundai are knocking out some great cars at the moment.
Phwoar to the Golf estate with twin pipes at the end though 👌🏻
I have to admit, I think that is a cracking looking car. I think I actually prefer it to the Golf..
I think a Cupra Formentor would be the way to go for a mid sized crossover. Crossovers work well if you are really tall like Henry, and you need some rear leg room for children/teenagers IMO.
That R Wagon though... Real cute Henry. Hehehehe
I’ve ordered a new T-Roc R and should take delivery in October 2022.
Does the T-Roc R come with electric boot closer button.
My dealer has told me it’s not on the option list and maybe a euro spec which are shown on most UA-cam videos car.
Did your loan T-Roc R come with the option ??
When is the Honda Civic review coming out Henry?
When will the Escort RS surface on a rally stage…
Why was the infotainment segment done without glasses on...it through me
Love Q cars, love buttons and switches, don't need or want leather. Very nice indeed.
Or the mk7 Golf R estate parked alongside in the end 😆
Awesome vehicle! Really wish VW would bring this to the US.
Only if the take the 3 grand for the exhaust and spend it on upgrading the present steerage class interior. I would truly be a work of art.
I dont think Henry is always honest, but this time I agree with him 99.8%, because I like the car, of course.
Absolutely love mine!!
Mine too. Got one two weeks ago. Puts a smile on my face every day
Watched this a few times now . Was the Golf 7.5 and related MQB product peak VW ? I suspect it is .
it also has drift mode ???
Interesting that Henry doesn't flash highbeams at people. It's against the Highway Code but very common.
As I do, he’s the only other person I have seen do it now, it never seemed like a nice way to thank someone in the dark...by blinding them!
I use to live on the countyside in the Netherlands and we use blinkers to thank other drivers.
Wow never seen that in the US. Most people here flash high beams to warn oncoming drivers of a speed trap around the corner or to GTFO the left lane
Is anyone seriously going to get blinded with a headlight flash? Really shouldn’t be driving if your eyesight is that sensitive . It’s more important to criticise idiot drivers with badly adjusted headlights or those that persist in using fog lights when it’s not foggy.
@@foysterrots8398 it's a friendly blinding
Very very nice but I would prefer a Cupra Formentor... apart from the mediacenter & console buttons!
I have owned this car for 6 months now and agree with your comments except for the cheap and nasty paintwork in the engine bay which shows considerable overspray of the exterior colour on the mid grey used under the bonnet and the inner guards and VW have indicated they won't fix it. In addition the engine cover has been removed by VW as they have to do a redesign and have a recall to replace them. VW were aware of this more than 12 months ago and still haven't come up with a fix.
In fact they are still selling new cars without the cover and including the overspray in the engine bay.
This is a great car and for MOST people it's all you'll ever need. Most people are not capable or safe to drive a car at its limits so the slight extra cornering grip of the Golf R is pointless. Most people want a car that's quick and punchy and gives you great straight line (overtaking!) performance which this car gives you in spades.
Added to that the (slightly) raised ride height allowing easier entry and exit (important when your the wrong side of 50 and not as slim as you once were!!!!!!) large airy cabin and boot, and good visibility and you have fundamentally a great car.
Dream daily alongside a modified m140i
Here in OZ we don't get the T-Roc R, however we have just got the Audi SQ2 which i have just ordered and one of the reason we liked it was because it still has the older style interior, proper buttons like you said. I'd love to see a comparison between the two. Great content
This is looking like a better alternative to the Golf 8
Was it a coincidence that a Golf R estate was parked next to the T-roc at the end? That's the natural rival if you're wanting more boot space surely.
I bet physical buttons will only be found on luxury cars in the future, with the commoners given badly made touchscreen rubbish.
VW - please bring back the physical buttons for the MK8.5 Golf R
I just bought a brand new R. Absolute nugget lol
Henry, did you deliberately finish the review next to the ultimate Q car? A black Golf R estate..
Glad someone else clocked that
"I'm sure the reason is for emissions which I gather VW has some sort of interest in" XD
Thoroughly agreed on the new VW group all touch interior being utterly obnoxious to use.
I'd take this over a Mk8 Golf R purely to get the last gen steering wheel with proper buttons on it! The Akrapovich does a good job of making the EA888 sound sporty but it's still not that great and never really going to be that great sounding short of fabricating crazy illegal headers so I'd save the money.
id take the 7.5 estate
Seriously was that a fart at 1:45?
I don't like that we're getting comfy with the idea of giving a crossover a chance to act as an enthusiast car. Crossovers are cancer and that's the end of it, no compromises. Just get a Golf R.
Agree. Though sadly crossover sales figures suggest most people think otherwise; so sadly we’re in the minority…
So you’ve driven a Macan GTS then.
"Eyes- off- the- road" touch screens are a scourge and a con by the car manufacturers. Profits for them (both at purchase and years later), but less safety for the user.
I doubt I'll ever own a post-2019 car.
The question now is, do the rear windows roll all the way down?
....but on the 2022-23 model almost all buttons are touchscreen.
Can I get a job at Catch44 Productions?
Forget it. Muscle memory is not in the vocabulary of current gen car interior designers
That's definitely a car Simon Riske would drive.
Germans know how to build a car 🚗 and tanks and fighter jets they better don't get any ideas 😂
If you use that method of thanking others drivers instead of a full beam flash, you're not normal
Yea but let's be real a little bit lifted golf r wagon(with a manual!!Let's not get carried away tho) would be much more appealing than this weird egg of a crossover.
Henry, I had to laugh when I see you also have your Vodafone satellite tracker attached to the key like everyone else with this system. It's a ridiculous concept when you're meant to remember to take a both the key AND the tracker separately. Theory being that a thief will either steal the car and/or main key but not the tracker then set the alert off. When in reality you're far more likely to forget the tracker fob yourself and set off the system....
😂
I like a Q car but maybe not a ubiquitous one….. these R badged people’s wagons are everywhere even parked next to Henry at the end….. smart though, I don’t mind a T-Roc
And yet the RS Q3 gets the hate.....
I just still don't like this thing. I really don't understand the appeal of the crossover class of vehicles.
Presentation 👍
Vehicle 🍌
Q or cute?
#knobgang
It's about time the world realised crossovers are pointless
Isn't cost a consideration for anyone but me? To review a car as if money is no object may be sensible for a McLaren, but hardly for a humble V-dub
Lzz so
Oh dear... Why V double yawn
The VW badge screams " arrogant, demented cult member, with a passion for German austerity ", especially when on the front of vans. Catch pole excluded, because who wouldn't take a free car for six months?
You talk about DCC like it does something. It doesn’t! Biggest marketing guff ever.
Meh
Overpriced, poor quality and electric gimmicky mini van.
Watching the Ireland 😊
Doesn't matter. Nothing is worse than a 5seater crossover thts fast. Such vehicles r the definition of oxymoron.
I see less a car and more of Ur face.
On my short list
