    Hey Tinman!
Thanks again for all your efforts and dedicated hours.
Whenever I go out bush my 044 always finds its way in the truck and I have quite a number of saws to choose from in that power and weight range but none more enjoyable than the 044.
It’s the perfect all rounder. Light and plenty powerful.
It makes me happy to see it getting some air time 👊

      @WildAcresFarms 3 роки тому +1

You should try a ported one. My very first ported saw is indentical to this early 12mm, and it’s the perfect balance of power and weight. Light enough to run all day, strong enough for big jobs. 044/046 and Husky 372 size saws are the ideal all-around tool if you can only bring one saw. For sure! 👍

Both great saw's. I love my 044 but haven't ran it much.
I have an 034 super that always ran fantastic until one day it acted up a little. I checked the carb and the diaphragm was stiff as a board. I was blown away that thing even ran.
New carb kit and good as new

My favorite stihl I ever ran and it was actually production cutting was a 046. That thing had good power in the big hardwoods. I ran a 24 inch bar on it. It was bone stock. But I never had trouble with it. As always WORK SAFE 🇺🇸🇨🇦😎😎

Those old 044s have been talked about around here in PA as being THE saw you couldn't go wrong with since before I got out of high-school in 94.
I Remember working for my small township road crew in the summer of 95 and older dude on the crew had one that he bought used from a saw shop guy that used to be big in competitions. It was supposedly one of his back up saws and had been ported.
Had some blow downs to clear along the road and he offered me his saw.
Man was that thing mean and beautiful!
I'll never forget that sound and how it just ate wood compared to the old beat up 10-10 and small homelite super x2 that I had ran a little on the family farm. Real eye opener for someone who'd never experienced it!
I've been swearing id own something like that ever since. Still haven't, life gets in the way sometimes. So while it hasn't happened yet, I'm still working on it! 😁
Great vid as always tinman! 👍👍👍

That series of saws are awesome ! Would love to try an 044 or 066 one day

Bought a blown up early 12mm 044 for $290 shipped on eBay. It’s on a Hyway top end I ported after following you and Harvey.
It ran just like this saw. Rich chronically on top, would not hold a High jet tune for more than half a tank before the screwdriver came back out. A Chinese Amazon carb made it worse, and it needed ether to start cold.
Swapped it back, with a factory branded carb kit in the factory carb. No more China in my carbs. Now she fires, holds tune, and runs like a brand new factory saw… except that the porting job has this saw outrunning a factory 044 by a very wide margin.

That's the way the 044 are: running without complaint for centuries without any care except some fuel, oil and a sharp chain. Your issue could be that little rubberboot from the compensator to the Filter. They tend to get hard...

Greetings Tinman from Newfoundland and Labrador.! Great saw that Stihl 044.
Seems I have to change the air filter myself to a H2 probably. Those mesh type air filters are garbage, as you know and get clogged easy.
I have a stock, unmodified 044, early model. 10mm pin. 1989/90 I believe she is. Made in West Germany on the recoil case! Runs like a top. Piston and cylinder are clean. What a savage saw, good for bucking a lot of wood. I will never part with it for any reason. Have a great day Brother

I love 44s I cut my sawman teeth on o46 and when I picked up a o44 for the first time the weight...and still plenty of power and easier to wheel at the end of the day that a 046, I can start any saw fine but I'm not a big man...keep that in mind, very strong but not enough ass sometimes is needed for a good mass lol to handle SOME things ALL DAY LONG if you have a lighter option...way faster for me to WORK with the 44s

There is more going on with that 044 saw then just tuning. Start with a carb rebuilt. But it sounds to me like you have an air leak somewhere. When you adjust the idle or HL jets and the saw does not respond correctly that is a tell tale sign of an air leak.

entraram junto no mato pra mostrar a serventia
a motosserra roncava machado velho tinia
e naquele matagal foi só cavaco de pau pó de serra que subia
e esse grande duelo deste jeito é que termina
na briga das ferramentas o machado é que domina
motosserra parou cedo ali no tronco da quina
machado seguiu cortando mata grossa e mata fina
motosserra impotente rebentou sua corrente acabou a gasolina
