- N54 Downpipe Install tips, Downpipes 335i Do's, 335i downpipe install Don't,
In this video I will be showing you guys additional information when installing your N54 downpipes
which is the missing information required to have a flawless installation.
This information has been gathered through research and by speaking to many BMW enthusiasts,
Furthermore I will be pin pointing common errors and common issues when installing your BMW N54 downpipes. Also guys it is extremely important to know all information given here to avoid any type of headaches down the line. I would like to see you guys enjoy your ride like it should.
👉 Not moving your tires or your steering wheel additional info:
In order to assure not moving your steering wheel or your tires, make sure to support your tires.
Use ramps or a lift and place the weight of the car on your tires. When doing the DIY & using
jack stands, place a nice amount of weight on your front tires when using ramps.
By doing this you are limiting the movement of your steering wheel and your tires.
If you where to use ramps only, when moving the steering rack out of place to install your n54 downpipes, your steering wheel will move too (even if you never touch your steering wheel), since you are moving your "STEERING" rack. It is inevitable for your steering to move (specially if the front tires are in the air). Many guys have been lucky enough to put everything back and then finding everything good. But some others will find their steering wheel crooked.
At that point either you will need to do that section of the work over, or get a car alignment.
So make sure to not move your times or your steering wheel.

I’ve done this job twice, once with new downpipes, again when replacing turbos. This is a really good vid. Wish I’d had to going in. Mine are ARM as well. Had them a few years not and they’ve held up nicely.
Thank you bro 💯👍
Man this video is so good. Well done!
Very informal information. Thanks!
💯 👍
VERY Good information that no one else mentions!
Thanks man, It was needed to be out the there. #N54gang
First I thought u were rapping until I hit unmute lol
😂
Good video!! Super informative 👌
Thank you brother 👍
love the video bro
👍 nice . Good info bro...
I'm about to do this job today, hopefully won't run into issues
great video man
Thank you brother 💯👍
Appreciate the support 🙏
Would have saved myself alot of time and effort if I watched this at the start of the job 😂. Great video!
Good tips for rwd. Xdrive is a lot more complicated. Whole subframe has to be dropped, motor mount removal makes it easyer but you don't have the clearance issues with the subframe
Thank you bro 💯
Yeah, Xdrives are a whole different game, when it comes to the downpipe installation. Definitely more complicated and more work.
Xdrive was one of my first opinions when on the market for a 335i. But the one I was looking at had higher mileage. At that time I didn't even think about the extra work for certain mods But I still love that launching power though 🏎💨
@@CrazyCarMods oh yeah, the pull off the line is amazing. Good trade off for the extra ass pain
Took me a week to get mine done, i have an 07’ with x drive. If i had known how big of a pain it was gonna be i dont know if i would of done it. On top of that i still need to drop the subframe again to adjust them as i just realized they where up against the heat shield.
😂
Oh crap man, that sucks.
But I’m pretty sure it will be much faster this second time around, it always is. Good luck bro
Good video.
Salut beau boulot, petite question pour le remontage il faut en premier mettre lequel de down pipe ?
Merci
Really good tips. I'm working up to doing this job. Probably drop my subframe while I'm at it though.
If you have an xdrive then you do have to drop the subframe. But If you don't then you just have to move the Steering Rack.
Good luck with the project bro 👍
@@CrazyCarMods I run a 135i and couldn't see anybody other than a small child fitting in there..so perhaps subframe is a must on this car. I have the subframe out now....looks like I may need to take off the full exhaust system or at least loosen it all up.
Brother what is that light in the sky behind you in the intro when you coming talking??? Is like orange in your left side?
My pre cat o2 sensors won’t screw in because the holes are to close together, if I twist the downpipes to move the holes further apart they don’t line up with exhaust. Can only screw in one pre cat o2. Any suggestions?
Great video 👍
Thank you bro 🙏 💯
@@CrazyCarMods keep pushing the videos please. More people will join. I have the same car. I wish you all the best !! 👍
Thank you for your support man. 🙏
Comments like your are what keeps me going. They are truly encouraging. 👍
@@CrazyCarMods Your welcome, videos like yours also inspire me. I love cars and I love doing upgrades. Keep pushing the content, your doing a great job so far. 👍👍
Your the man 💪
💯
Good Video, but according to BMW you have to replace the steeringrack bolts too. On BMWs all Aluminium bolts are a one time use and there is always a risk to tear them off, if you torque them twice.
Awesome camera shots
Thanks, I always try to get the best camara angles and close ups, so you guys can see and understand better.
@@CrazyCarMods I’ve watched tons of DIYs and most don’t put that extra effort. Thanks for sharing
💯 👍
I do it, because I was once the one that wanted to know, learn and do my own stuff.
I put myself in you guys shoes to deliver the message the best way I can.
Thank you for your support bro 🙏
@@CrazyCarMods ✊🏻🤘🏼
Hey do you think you can make a video on the Best turbo upgrades 🙏🏻
That's definitely a great idea. I will look in to it. I am a little backed up on editing some other content do to my regular job.
Thank you for the suggestion 👍
@@CrazyCarMods of course keep up the good work
do you have a part number for that heat shield? I don’t have one
That Steering rack heat shield is called
"Steering box heat resistant plate"
Part # 32106780920
It's $5.75 on realoem.com
Go there, type the last 7 of your vin.
Browse parts, click on Steering, then on hydraulic Steering.
This are the same exact graphs BMW Dealerships use.
Fcp euro, tunermotorsports, ecs tunings and more companies have it but it cost 4 times more.
I installed Downpipes now I’m getting smoking exhaust but didn’t have it previous to install
Cats will mask the smoke.
My steering wheel is actually a little crooked so I think I’ll actually move it while my steering rack is off 😂
You don't talk about CEL
What is the link to bolts and nuts?
I got the steering rack bolts and nut from FCP euro, I had a hard time looking for them in the website, so I ended up calling them to make sure I was ordering the right parts. I remembered it was less than $20 for both bolts and nuts. So just give them a call to make sure. Hope that helps.
Do you have to tune the car once you replace the downpipes???
tuning is not necessary, but there is little to no power difference without a tune
Tuning is not required, but take into account that after installation you will have a check engine light, since now you have no catalytic converters. As Joel stated there is little power difference without the tune. If you want to squeeze the most power out of replacing the downpipes then you will want to to tune it.
👍
But what about XI models??
With the XI's you need to remove your subframe, but every thing else still applies.
I haven't personally installed downpipes on XI's, so I don't have much tips on the subframe part. On the Steering rack part though, it is very very important to put weight on the tires and to keep them as straight as possible. When Installing back the Steering Rack have someone on the driver seat looking at the Steering Wheel to make sure is straight and centered, since when you move or manipulate the Steering rack, the Steering wheel can move as well.
If you mute the sound for the first minute it looks like he's spitting bars.
Amigo...tu eres muy paticular, mas fina
This way, that way or que pedo guey 😉
