  • This was shot at the 24th annual Miller Meet at the Milwaukee Mile. Super cool chance to see these vintage race cars up close and watch them cruise around the Mile.
    First time shooting with this camera, sorry for some wonky camera work. Shot with a Canon 80D

    OMG,seeing and hearing these beautiful machines takes me right back to the fifties,when i first became a huge racing fan!The cars are so beautiful,and that sound,takes me back to liostening to Sid Collins call the 500 on radio.What an era!

    As a kid growing up I use to think faster was cooler and better. Now that im older I think these cars are way cooler and better than the fast cars of modern times.

      I always thought these old cars were cooler. What I learned as an adult was the balls it took to race them.

      It's infinitely more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow.

    I can still recall the 50's , listening to KLAC Radio in the San Fernando Valley, broadcasting the Indy 500 on Memorial Day.
    What a special treat , once a year. My ears close to the radio, either at home or at a local park where the family gathered to Honor our Nations Fallen Hero's.
    Thanks for this video and ..................The Sounds !! Nothing like those Offy's.

    That Blue Crown Spark Plug Special is fantastic. Those cars won Indianapolis in 1947 through 1949. Mauri Rose in 47 and 8 and Bill Holland in 49.

      The blue crown cars have always been the absolute epitome of race car beauty to me. The 270 offy sound, that Kurtis style chassis/body design is just perfection.

    the #16 Art Cross driven car was assembled by his cousin Walt Cross Sr, at Walt's truck shop in Albany NY. Walt and his son Walt Jr were both mentors of mine 50 years ago. I have a photo of it in mi garage, so cool! I could be wrong but that is how I remember the story.

    The beauty of such current era videos of these vintage racers is seeing them in color. Back in their heydays, nearly all the photos of them were in black & white. Rarely were color photos taken of the racers from early to mid-20th century.

      @bloqk16 3 роки тому

      @@timinla64 It was, indeed, a Mercer Raceabout, vintage 1913.
      In the future if you have some doubts about the looks of a car, use the power of the web with a Google search, such as what I did with the words of _images Mercer Raceabout_ where I found loads of photos of Mercers; and I found one that was nearly identical to the one in this video. Same color paint and the distinctive handles on top of the fuel tank with an image I found on the 'web.

      Milwaukee is a 1 mile concrete saucer. There is no place to "wind up" with those old cars. They have tall gears for Indy, and had to be sprint geared right after Memorial Day.

    Um, please tell me why these guys are going out in tee shirts and shorts without belts. Most vintage racing organizations require more safety. Yeah, I know about originality. Either these old guys don’t care or they limit their speed to 55 mph on the track. In that case, why bother?
