I've found that walking backwards with tillers like that gets a more uniform depth. I had a smaller one for going between rows worked great on previously tilled or disked ground

Looks good for breaking up soil but looks like you are fighting it. It wants to wobble left and right on you. I have a honda mantis that i have had for over 10 years. As long as you do the maintenance every spring and fall it should last a long time.
