Preamps continue to remain a mystery to me, i read plenty of comments of how they colour the sound yet when I've tried plugins with a pre it's been so subtle that i can't tell a difference
That means you ears are not tuned into the subtleties of mixing and being able to hear those differences yet. Once you are you'll hear that what you thought made no difference in the past is actually a pretty big difference in sound.
Try it out and listen what it does to signals. It might change your opinion on PreAmp plugins
The longer you do it the more you'll begin to hear the differences, but you were right when you said the differences are subtle.
Bingo. Mixing is all about making small changes that add up to a huge full mix in the end. Give it time
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy So true!! I have 'learned' to hear the differences between different plugins, and different hardware. And while the overall effect of these things on many individual instruments or tracks may be 'subtle'... the cumulative effects by applying them repeatedly and on various signals, eventually becomes audible. If you play your cards right... wonderful "mojo" can be achieved. 🙂

I actually own the real deal Golden 58 and love it. I ran the drum overheads through it when we recorded drums recently, and all vocals and acoustic instruments are getting tracked though it as well. This plugin version sounds great; I was honestly kind of surprised!
I wish I would had bought the hardware when it was available. :(

Hey - how would this be "better" than say the Presonus Studio ONE console shaper(s) - or the "PRE-AMPs" of the SHEPPS channel or any other of those awsome channel strips (Plugin-Alliance, VOOSTEQ N, Slate Digita or Softube) ??? Did it in your opinion REALLY do something better or something worth dishing out 100 $ if you already have these other PRE-AMPS ??? First listen to your video it seemed almost like putting the WAVES Pultec EQ (or any other quality Pultec) which boosts the low end by default and adds a little analog vibe... ???? What do you think ??? Really worth 100 $ in your opinion ?
Would it be "better".? That is such a subjective word that I would not say that. Is it "different" than other plugins out there? Sure a little. If you already have a ton of plugins do you need this one? No, of course not. People that usually ask this sort of question are still in the beginning stages of mixing and they do not have their ears tuned into the subtitles between these sorts of plugins.
So I tell everyone that if you have to ask, then stick with what you have and instead of buying more plugins that you probably dont need, get some training to get better at the craft and to train your ears, so in time you will be able to tell the difference between a plugins like this and the Presonus console shaper, because there is a difference. not "better"...."different"
to my untrained ear, i feel the sound turns more brighter and clear. not sure if I got it correct.

Ok, so I'm running this through plugin doctor and the reason it makes your drums sound "punchier" is becase starting from 300 Hz it gradually adds gain 'till your reach +3db on 20 Hz.
Also, starting from 5.000 Hz it gradually cuts the top end 'till it reaches -2.8db on 20.000 Hz.
So beware when using this. You might be losing some of your top end sparkle.

Then your ears are not tuned to hear the subtle differences and that is very common for beginners to mixing music. Get some ear training, learn this craft and I promise you over time you will be able to hear the difference because honestly, it pretty huge with the plugin. Until then, dont purchase a single 3rd party plugin. your stock plugins are all you need.
