I was given a Stihl MS250 chainsaw by a friend of mine, it was almost new but he had seized the piston from running factory lean mixture settings. I took it apart and put a new factory piston & rings in it, cleaned the bore of any aluminum transfer and got a sweet 600 grit crosshatch in the bore, reassembled it with an extra 3/4 turn rich on the hi speed mixture and an 18" bar & chain. That saw started right up and I broke it in cutting up a tree I'd dropped on my property. Great saw, runs like a watch and has plenty of power to do the job. I use AmsOil Dominator 2-stroke oil in all my 2-stroke-powered equipment, works for me along with non-ethanol gasoline. Thanks for the cool video!
Hey hey there Smitty ! I am really liking your new workspace, pretty sure you are enjoying it more as well. Those ms250s/ms251s are pretty decent machines....I often do work on my friends 2 that he runs in his firewood biz. ( 1 of each) only thing I don't like is the tool-less chain cover deal
Just starting the vid, but I've seen a few 250s here lately come in with bad Welch plugs and 1 new oem carb that came with the metering side non existant. No needle, spring, lever. Only the 2 gaskets.
Zama carb- Made in China. In Jan 2018 Zama and Stihl worked together and opened up a carb manufacturing plant in Shenzhen, China. The Stihl reputation is fading away.
Serial number for Stihl chainsaw My MS461 was made in Germany, my MS180 and MS310 was USA. • If the first digit in the serial number is a 1 then it was manufactured in Germany • If it’s a 2 or a 5 it was manufactured in the United States • A 3 means it’s manufactured in Brazil • Serial starting with 8 is Chinese made • Starting with 4 means made in Austria
The air filter not fitting properly might be that it is an aftermarket brand. They don't fit very good and they are slightly too big and interfere with the cover. POS. That safety chain is the worst one I haver ever seen, and cuts poorly. The saw revs out too much with that chain, not enough of a load, and in hot weather the saw will run too hot, causing a hot start problem.
120lbs sounds about right. Loose squish and 96* exhaust from the factory.....had a similar issue on my ms250. Impulse was dried and hard like plastic instead of rubber. The tune would wander when hot. Also ms 250 are notorious for developing an Air leak where the cylinder and base pan meet on the exhaust side right of center facing it (flywheel side).
Bought a 009L off ebay would start first pull ran great til it got warm then 2 hours it would restart ended up being flash in the gap the kill wire feeds through a slot in the case it would short the coil😅 damn ripper
I have 2 of them. Both run great until fuel is used up. Neither will restart when hot unless I change spark plugs, then start right up. Have no problem with a 170 or a husky 445 using the same fuel.
Missing the winter/summer baffle. And I would bet the air filter doesn't lock on because it is probably an aftermarket Chinese. But this chainsaw is one of the better that the Chinese can make.
WTF? Running a cold saw wide open? That’s just basic stupidity, for any motor, under any circumstances. And saying the mixture is lean on a motor that isn’t even close to operating temperature, is even dumber.

Those saws usually average between 140 and 160 in fairly good condition. Great video thanks buddy

I saw the gap behind the air filter when you took the hood off. Thats a bad design.
Yup
I wish you had shown how to adjust lean vs rich, H & L. Clockwise? Counterclockwise?
Counterclockwise is more fuel
My 250 will flood if I pull more than 3 times with the choke on so warm/hot start , no choke at all
Thanks buddy
I've worked on a few 250s there mean little shits. I always wanted to port one but being clam shell I never attempted it.
Sometimes it’s not worth the effort
I have a husky 350 that doing the same thing
Needs a little love

Noker??
Sounds like a air leak
It’s practically new so I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt
