      Tik Tok kept spamming me clips of GJ! and Headbanger in December of last year on my FYP. After giving it some thought It was rather interesting that these tiny Japanese girls could get a stadium full of metal heads bowing to them and decided to give them a listen. I very quickly went from going, "Yeah, I get why people like this" to "OMG THIS IS AMAZING! I HAVE NEVER FELT SUCH HAPPINESS AND JOY WHILE LISTENING TO METAL AND EVERYTHING IN LIFE IS SO MUCH BETTER NOW"
      Musically the songs are genius, the choreography is great, their story of how they came to be and their perseverance is touching. Even behind the scenes their biggest critics can't find anything bad to say about this trio on a personal level. You can really feel the positive energy they radiate. I think the world is very lucky to have them and we are all better off for it.

      I'm also fairly new to BABYMETAL. I only discovered them in late 2019 thanks to a recommendation here on YT. I spent the first few days (or weeks) binge watching every single video and footage about them available online. It was kinda crazy. I was going to see them the next year but that never happened because it was 2020 and, you know... Then, they went on hiatus in 2021 and I thought it was over (I was wrong, fortunately). So, I had to wait until May 2023 to see them live. I've seen them a total of six times since then, in four different countries, including two shows in Japan last March (Legend-MM).

      A friend briefly showed me some music he was listening to about two years ago. I think the Babymetal song he showed me was Gimme Chocolate and that's not the best suggestion for a first listen. So I forgot about them.
      Until the 2023 Sabaton concert came closer and they had Babymetal as supporting act. So I listened to them some more and fell into the fox hole.
      Luckily they came back half a year later with their headliner show.

      @@cybercide283 I can just agree with you on every point you make and I recognise the journey. Mine was similar.
      Have you experienced them live? I've only been to one concert, yet. And that was also a life changer. As I've done on many of these videos, I started crying during some of their songs. The whole experience was just SO emotional and you felt the love and positivity from everyone.

    Nice reaction, thanks!
    As you found out, "Doki Doki Morning" was their first song, single, music video, first everything. Sometimes underrated because... yeah it's silly and childish but it has a huge importance because we wouldn't be here talking about them without it. And it need context: they started as a sub-unit of a larger j-pop idol group, Sakura Gakuin formed by girls between 10 and 15. So, it's basically a SG song and it had to be necessarily poppy... but it's crazy metal for that same context if you think about it. 😁
    🤘🦊

    • @FranksReactions
      @FranksReactions  5 місяців тому +2

      Absolutely! You can't critisise it in any way, because they came from the background they had, and as I understand it, they were just a side project in SG. I see Wikipedia mentions something about Jūonbu, a "heavy music club" sub-unit.

    • @road-runner
      @road-runner 5 місяців тому

      @@FranksReactions Not really a side project 'per se'. SG was a school-themed j-pop group and it had two sides: the clubs (sub-units) like Jūon-bu (BABYMETAL was its actual name), Mini-Pati, Twinklestars, etc. and then, the full group. Each sub-unit had their own songs and the same applied to the the full group.
      Note that Suzuka only performed with BABYMETAL (and the whole SG group, of course) while Yui and Moa also performed with Mini-Pati and Twinklestars.
      Momoko performed with Mini-Pati (although she never coincided with the other three) and with Science Investigation Mechanism Logica? (yes, that's the name of the sub-unit, haha...).
      BABYMETAL split from SG in early 2013 due to its rising popularity and Suzuka's imminent "graduation", meaning she had to leave SG. SG members "graduated" at the same time they ended compulsory school.
      SG disbanded in 2021 so, BABYMETAL survived the group they originated from.

    Fun reaction, thanks.😁🦊This video was filmed on a shoestring budget, their costumes were partly borrowed clothes, if you look closely you can see the Babybones skeleton suits are made up from black one piece suits with white tape (and it is starting to peel in places).
    The Babybones guys served a purpose (I think this video may have even been the first time they appeared) in the early days for videos and then waving guitars and effectively being backing dancers for some live shows before BABYMETAL had the budget for a live band.
    Jake Muller already mentioned the commentary videos (they did them for the first 5 MVs a couple of years later). Definitely worth watching as the girls discuss their memories and thoughts about the videos (and Moa can't help but sing along). They were very proud of themselves for teaching the choreo to the Babybones so they could dance along with them in the video.
    Did you notice in the bedroom clips, as the video goes on 5 little animated skeleton men appear dotted round the room dancing along as well.☠

    • @FranksReactions
      @FranksReactions  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I read about this video and the production. I think Su borrowed a jacket from Moa or Yui, and then they also borrowed a jacket from a woman in the production. But that's the way it has to be in the beginning. And it didn't take long before the production value went up a lot.
      I'll try to find and check out that commentary video. Sounds like a blast to look at. I might have missed the small skeletons. Will take a gander at the video again and look for them.

    DDM is such a fun song. They don't play it live very often anymore but when they do it's always a special treat and the crowd goes off for it. They last played it live at Legend MM and I got to see it live and shout "Ima nan ji!" with everyone else.

    • @FranksReactions
      @FranksReactions  5 місяців тому

      Yeah, it's sort of a song they have grown a little out of, so quite natural that they don't play it as much anymore. But at the same time, it IS the start of the group, so I hope they will still do it from time to time, as a little tribute and stroll down memory lane.

    I accidentally discovered Babymetal a little over a week ago. At first I thought the video was going to be a parody of metal bands, but I was way wrong. I have listened to several hours of Babymetal since then. They are very infectious...

      But I welcome you to the Babymetal journey and I hope you will be experiencing them live sometime. It's a very special experience that a video can't even start to convey. This is BABYMETAL's FIRST music video, released on UA-cam on November 8, 2012 but it was actually recorded almost a year earlier (October 2011) when Su-metal was 13 years old, and both Yuimetal and Moametal were 11 years old (Saturday morning cartoons meet Metallica in Japan).
    The saga begins, and you’ve opened a can of worms!
    BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around since 2010, and started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the group in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
    BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums with over fifty songs, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. It's good to see that you've gone back to the beginning, and reacted to their first music video. I suggest you continue with this and react to their second MV, "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), also released in 2012 as was "Doki Doki Morning". What follows is a list of recommended songs (with links to suggested versions), more or less in historic order. The first sixteen are from what I've come to call "The Golden Age of BABYMETAL" (better known as "The Yui Era"). You can use my UA-cam playlist “BABYMETAL Top Twenty” ( ua-cam.com/play/PLdhz2aj0pt4zPl0BZLevPUR9uHKQA27uj.html ) as a quick link to all of these videos; it is a mix of MV’s and live performances, is more or less in historical sequence, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about - if they are on the list. Anyway . . . .
    Another recommendation (read "challenge"): react to an entire BABYMETAL concert. I suggest:
    "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" ua-cam.com/play/PLdBAj9hZ91wCao72oSqTMLrGpIDOqzR2Q.html
    and/or
    "Budokan Black Night" (2014) ua-cam.com/play/PLdBAj9hZ91wBwsBfjsKH9zWxA5YOOUkSI.html
    Both concerts are, in a word, incredible.
    Regarding the "skeleton band": they were mimes who never played the instruments and were known as "Babybones". 💀
    Kudos to you for rewinding the video a bit after each pause; far too many reacters don't do that thus losing the flow of the video. 👍
    A personal note: Yuimetal is irreplaceable and, as far as I'm concerned, she's still a member of BABYMETAL. 🍅🍅🍅 🦊🦊🦊

      It was to not interrupt the flow that I initially didn't pause videos much and talked over them. But I got stern feedback that was not what you wanted, so now I try to pause when I have something to say, and it just felt natural to go back and reset a little after a pause.

      @@FranksReactions My pleasure! I like to assist budding BABYMETAL viewers into becoming full-fledged members of The One and aid in your BABYMETAL experience.
      If it means anything, I have seen only one person react to an entire BABYMETAL concert: it was the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" concert, and the reaction video was roughly two hours long (the concert itself is about 90 minutes long). I have no doubt that editing would be a nightmare so perhaps you could go about it like you would eating a elephant - one bite at a time. The "Legend 1997" concert has 15 tracks (although the link has 14 videos, the first two tracks are in the first video) and includes all but two songs from their debut album "BABYMETAL". However, the concert also has four tracks that are not on any BABYMETAL studio album. Just go one track at a time for 14 reaction videos!!!
      Regarding pauses: I don't mind voice-overs as long as they don't become speeches - although some people can do two things at one time, I find it difficult to hear or react to a song when my own head is roaring. Another issue I have is the number of pauses during a video. Although I don't have direct experience, it seems to me that no more than three pauses during a video should be sufficient to keep the YT copyright police at bay; any more than that and it becomes tedious and, once again, gets in the way of the flow of the song. I saw one reacter who paused like every five seconds, prattled for two or three MINUTES, then resumed the video. They did NOT get a thumbs up from me! Anyway . . . .
      Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!!

      @@Filboid2000 The concert react would certainly have to be its own project.
      I'm preparing two new channels now. One for other kinds of reactions, tv-shows, movies, other music etc, and one channel for shorts. A concert review might have its place on the alternate channel. This channel will have a laser focus on jmetal.
      And yeah, I'm trying to be mindful on not pausing and talking too much. Just recorded a reaction today and I began started talking about the lyrics, but I tried to cut it short and then did it after the song was over instead. Think that is a better place for longer commentary.

    重音部 is Jūon-bu (Heavy Music Club), their club description in Sakura Gakuin.
    Yui and Moa were also members of the first generation of Twinklestars (The Baton Club) and the second generation of Mini-Pati (The Cooking Club).
