i have an original bike, still has the fiberglass side covers, on the very first editions there is no vertical brace on the rear swing arm, the throttle and front brake cables are grey witch are from the A model, also wrong fuel cock but still a very good example of a very rare bike and a whole lot cleaner than my "race condition" bike. Great video and channel
I had one in late 1975, I was the 2nd owner, awesome play bike, very, very strong midrange, the rear tyre did not last long..lol..when I would come back home from a ride, I felt like I was stoned..the power was that awesome for the day.. Chris, you did not mention that it had a Chrome Bore.. it would take off like a rocket, the rear wheel digging in the dirt, front wheel would rise easily in every gear, while sliding too..it was a handful, but I loved it, I should not have sold it..
I had the dual shock MX125 when I was a kid, which had the same color scheme, but also had basically an enduro engine with a large magneto/flywheel. I ran it to pieces for years and rebuilt it twice from the frame up in the 80's. Those magnesium case covers were like eggshells. I had to make sure I went back for my rock guard right away when it got ripped off, or the next rock would drain the gearbox.
I'm so very confused. My dad was a desert racer in Oregon. Our friend were getting those 74 with the strapped down tanks. He got a crate of 1975 YZ250 from the small shop we raced out of. The Burke's Bros(Dan & Keith) got 1 each, Chuck Walker(my dad) the other bike in the crate went to Clay Azar. Rick Burgett got one to race against Chuck Sun. There's a rundown of where. I assume there were 4 crates for sure maybe 5 in the Portland, Oregon area. My confusion is no over the tank straps, it may of strapped to the frame in-between seat and tank but was hidden. and the 250 logo on the white tank was black with some red, Looked like the YZ 400 but red replaced the yellow.
Many a good race I won on the Yamaha YZ 250 Did get sick of re-ringing it but )) But every 5 hours or so a lopt people after retired racing they would put a different piston to slow the process down But loved the power band on the YZ
I have a 1974 YZ250B and I can’t find any information about that year. It has small differences between this bike. I was wondering if you knew anything about the 1974.
I was 16 in 1975, and wanted a Honda Elsinore 250. In 1977 Yamaha put the "monoshock" on the dual purpose DT250, and I didn't like it. I still like twin shock, air cooled, carbureted dirt and dual sport bikes. I like both 2 and 4 stroke engines.
