    🔴 Do you find street photography motivation hard or easy? 📸
    Recently I’ve had a hard time with inspiration, so I made this video. Hopefully it helps you a bit if you’ve struggled with inspiration too (hit like on the video if you’ve found it helpful!).
    Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

    "Take up professional dance instead." Genius! Thanks for sharing these reminders about all the little things out there to photograph just waiting to be noticed. There's so much beauty in the ordinary. Cheers!

    Be a photographer and not a genre, so much out there to photograph. So I totally agree with you. Ernst Haas, my biggest inspiration but there are many more.

    I got what I think is a good candid portrait at an event yesterday. Made some real stinkers too. Oh well, goes with the territory.
    I currently have the companion book to Lee Friedlander's 2005 exhibit at The Museum of Modern Art "Friedlander" checked out from my local library. Nearly 800 photos in that book. Lot's of inspiration there.

    • @timjamiesonphotos
      @timjamiesonphotos  8 місяців тому

      Oh fantastic! I’d love to see that book. I think a lot of people miss the value in libraries, photo books can be very expensive but libraries often have a great selection. Glad to hear you got a keeper - the more you take photos the more keepers you get and you just throw away the bad ones - all part of the process 🙏🏻

      Haha, yeah there is no substitute for doing the thing, but second best to that is learning about the thing or looking at others doing the thing. Usually that’s enough to give me a spark to do the thing myself 🙏🏻

    Another fab video - Sometimes for me if I am struggling with creativity and looking for inspiration, just go out and aim for any location and 9 times out of 10 something catches my interest and sets the creativity going. It's all about not forcing it and being aware of your surroundings, look up and down as a lot of people can miss what is happening on the pavement, road and gutters.

    Quality take on this frequent theme, Tim. Valid points; risk offending Amsterdam viewers😊. IMO, it is quite natural to have inspiration slumps - we need them to prevent burnout. Just let inspiration come back organically, instead of following a plan. Don’t force it. Kids at play are naturally creative, without formal plans, and they do great. Somehow the kid’s approach gets repressed in adults - but it’s still there.
    Good pics are everywhere, as are bad ones. Takes our “license to see” to sort them out, after going through the “learners’ permit” phase. (Couldn’t resist that one, sorry😊.)
    BTW, in your thumbnail you don’t appear unmotivated or uninspired at all😊. Cheers!

      Haha thanks Courts! Moral of the story I guess is that nothing compares to actually doing the thing, but when doing the thing is hard, learn about doing the thing or watch people doing the thing. At least that’s what usually makes me go out and do the thing.

Where will they be shown to whom and how? Do you have a system for sorting and further utilization? I would love to see a video on this aspect of street photography.

      Hey! Thanks for your comment. Good question, one day I’d like to make a physical book/s. Currently I use the photos in my UA-cam videos, on social media, on my website and in educational content I’m making. I also just love the process so the end result isn’t too important. All the photos I take help me get better and occasionally I get one I really like that goes into the portfolio :)

    If you *really* can't find any inspiration, seek professional help, consult a psychologist or some other specialist. I mean it; no offence intended. See, I am convinced that, in order to (at least try to) make interesting photos, a photographer must be interested in those things and people him/herself. "Nothing to shoot" may mean "nothing interests me", and that's a warning bell for a depressive condition developing. I'm talking from my own experience: the war in my country killed a lot of earlier inspirations for me.

      @@timjamiesonphotos 😉😊 I hate to feel embarrassed if I don’t understand a piece of art. At the Towner art gallery in Eastbourne, there’s a set of pipes coming out of the wall to nowhere. I thought they were part of the building. Oh no, they’re part of the Turner prize! 😳🙄
