So sit back, relax and enjoy the show and I did ! !
Well, great to see you photographing Dam Square, Flower Market, Begijnhof and more, my working-area for street photography,
hope you liked my beautiful Amsterdam 😉
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed. I loved Amsterdam, can’t wait to go back! 😎
Great seeing your approach on Amsterdam Tim! 👏
Thank you! Love that city
I always look forward to your POV videos! There is something so calming and inspiring about them - they are both educational and demonstrate an excellent approach to street photography. Your videos always encourage me to pick up my camera and go out shooting, even when the weather is cold and rainy. Thank you, Tim, for consistently sharing such beautiful content!
That comment has absolutely made my day! Thank you for writing that. I love street photography and making youtube videos but both can be very difficult at times, so it’s comments like this that make me realise I need to keep going, so thank you. Have a great day! 🙏🏻
Just rewatching this video for some inspiration ahead of a little trip to Amsterdam! Cheers Tim! 🇳🇱
Thanks Max! Hope you have a great time in Amsterdam - boy I love that city
@@timjamiesonphotos Thanks Tim!
Love watching your photos. Watching from Fremantle Western Australia.
"being inspired by each other is how we get the best out of humanity" heard.
1:42 I love eye contact too. It really connects the viewers with our subjects!! That's why I like to interact with people on the street so they're relaxed enough for me to take photos.
Nice I came across your video. Definitely a subscribe.
Thanks a lot! Yeah it can be nerve wracking but I think eye contact can be really strong in photos
Another interesting and varied video. Fascinated by the glass square ceiling and clock, I would have spent some time there. I also enjoy galleries and museums and have enjoyed several visits to the Ashmolean in Oxford. Keep up the good work. 👍
Thanks heaps! Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻
Great tips and inspiration.Hope to put both into practice during my world cruise next year.😊
Thanks! Glad to hear it 🙏🏻
Wow that last red photo with the red curtains is breathtaking
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Truly excellent. Cannot say enough how good these videos are! Thanks for posting, excited to keep following your adventures :)
Ah thank you, Frida! That’s so kind 🙏🏻
Thank Tim I love how you show how you work a scene
Thank you, Gary! Much appreciated mate 🙏🏻
I liked the image of the car bonnet and a man walking past the best.
Thanks John! Glad you liked it 🙏🏻
Thank you for inspiring me. I like hearing your commentary whilst taking photos because it helps me understand your thought process and intentions. These insights are interesting and helpful. You got some good shots during your Amsterdam visit. Too bad there was so much rain. Kudos to you for still finding ways to get some good street photos under difficult lighting conditions. The ripped posters are cool.
Ah thank you David! Really happy to hear that 🙏🏻
It's true to me too. I prefer wider lens when hitting the streets.
Enjoyable post w/cogent commentary, tips and photo gems, Tim. Favs include mom w/kid on back where kid is watching phone (relatable all over); pigeon feeder in red jacket, and second clock in station. Small ironic item only photographers would likely pick up - “IBIS Hotel”😊. Do they permit photos in the Madame Tussaud museum? If so, might make for unique interaction pics. BTW audio level just right. Cheers!
Thanks Paul! Appreciate the comment as always. Finally got a mic solution for my audio and am happy with that now thankfully! Yeah didn’t think about the Madame Tussaud museum, probably would be good for shots! 🙏🏻
11:27 no pun intended? 😅. You got some great photos! Really enjoy your videos. They help inspire me to keep making my own POVs.
Haha no pun intended indeed. Really happy to hear that! Exactly why I make them so I’m stoked to here you’re inspired to go out and make your own work 🙏🏻
Lovely lill piece this Tim, great walk around and commentary, some nice captures too. All the best for the new year.
Thanks a lot! Same to you as well 🙏🏻
Hello Tim, I'm from the north east coast of the US.
Thank you for showing me Amsterdam's beauty.
I enjoyed and love your pics because you do a little bit of everything in the video.
Also, it shows who inspires you when you take them.
Cheers and happy holidays!
Thank you, Leslie! I really appreciate that. And hello from England, I’m hoping to get over to NYC next year from some photography! Appreciate the comment and happy holidays to you as well :)
Love your work. You've given me a new challenge in your ripped posters photo's. Well composed. Will definitely try this on my next trip. Keep inspiring Tim.
Thank you, Tony! That’s very kind of you - happy shooting 📸
Most enjoyable video and great photos
Thank you, Gerard! ✌🏻
I enjoyed watching your videos Tim I can see you capture 1 or two great street shoots. I suppose with street photography the light always changing and you can't always get that sweet spot when you are shooting on the streets. As I found out myself 👍
I love this documentary approach to street photography as it gives a real sense of people and place. I love Amsterdam and it was great to see it through the eyes of your camera as well as having your commentary on the video. Great work as always, Tim.
Thank you, Mary! Really happy to hear that. Glad you enjoyed ✌🏻
Great sharing Tim ...especially the part of 13:30. Can not agree more!
Thank you! Glad you agree 🙏🏻
Thanks for sharing your photos and thoughts from this trip. I really like the moment, composition and elements in the one with lady with pigeon landing on her back. So many layers and elements to see in that one. Now, I have another European city I want to visit ;)
Thank you Michael! I’m trying to incorporate more into my frames at the moment, starting to see some results which is good. And yeah it’s a fantastic city, if you have the chance to visit I really recommend!
Love the ripped posters snaps. I enjoy taking those types of shots too 😊My inspiration for that comes from Ernst Haas who also known for it
Thanks a lot! Glad you liked those images. Yeah Haas is one of my favs :)
I enjoyed the narration and hearing you share your thoughts as you went along.
Great content 👍
Love the poster pics. ❤
Thanks a lot mate! 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing this interesting video, great ideas to take inspiration from.
On that note I agree there is nothing wrong with taking inspiration and being influenced by other photographers work, I think this is what helps you learn and develop your own styles of composition. Everyone likes different things so anything that inspires experimentation and creativity is great.
Thanks for your kind comment mate! And I totally agree with that 🙏🏻
Another great video full of really good images. I have been inspired by your ripped torn poster abstracts and often find myself seeking them out so as you say it is good to be inspired by others. It was just as well you took the time to shoot the wall you found when you did rather than leave it till the next day!!! My favourite images are 2:55, 5:01, 9:53, 11:40 15:02 and 17:50. Looking forward to your next adventure 😀
Thanks so much, Tony! I really appreciate that mate 😁
😀Excellent pictures and video as usual. Thank you to let us travel with you so we can visit European cities in front of our computer monitors. Great work.
Ah thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻
Another great video Tim.
So inspiring. I love those shots in the gallery and the shot in Dam Square with the balloons. I had no idea that galleries were great places for street photography.
I really appreciate the effort you put into these videos 🙏
Thanks Joe! That means a lot 🙏🏻
Really enjoyed this. Love the POV style videos
Many thanks, Tom! ✌🏻
Thanks again for another great video, which particularly reflects the same fun I feel when being out and about in the streets taking photos. Concerning colours: If photographing with a documentary purpose, like you mentioned in the intro, why then not omitting the colours all together and going B/W, or am I just kind of over-influenced by a book with the pictures by Vivian Maier I've got two days ago? Fun fact: About 3 weeks ago I had bought the same lens for about the same purposes like you did. 🙂
Thank you mate! These days I pretty much photograph exclusively in colour - it’s just how I see the world and how I want to capture it. Perhaps I’ll experiment with B&w again in the future though! Glad to see you’ve had the same thought, I hope it’s going well for you so far! ✌🏻
Before buying it, I had tested the F1.4 variant for a long walk and almost suddenly fell in love with the focal length but struggled with the focus ring, accidentally defocusing some exposures, because I had the AF setup to Af+MF and lacking a tactile barrier (or being somewhat clumsy) I unconsciously moved the ring with my index finger under the lens. Next day when I returned it, I have bought the F2.0 which "glued" into my left hand like my long time "nifty fifty" 35mm F2.0, but with half the light in open focus, little more than half the weight of the F1.4, and about half the price. In some situations with a subject considerably nearer to the camera than to the first parts of the background the pictures from the F2.0 lack some of the "plasticity" the F1.4 transports, but this might be my own personal perception anyway, and I can easily live without it. So, bottom line: Confidentially well. 😁
Fab video, Tim! Loved the pigeons 😅
Thanks Courts! Glad you enjoyed it mate 😁😁
Loved the video, thanks Tim. Of course we are influenced by each other, plus we stand on the shoulders of giants who have gone before us.
Thank you, David!
Hi Tim-Always enjoy your videos. Question-While doing your documentary photos are you zone focusing?
Hey Pam! Thank you, yeah all the photos in this video I was done focusing for :)
Love the clogs shot with the 3 pairs !!
Thanks a lot! 🙏🏻
Some great pictures Tim, liked the poster work. As a beginner in photography i'm getting some real motivation to just get out and play from your videos, keep them coming. Have you thought about offering any tuition days in London?
Thank you, Gary! I really appreciate that mate and I’m super happy to hear my videos have given you motivation to go out and shoot - that’s what I make these videos for, in the hope others find them useful, so that’s great to hear. And yes! I’m aiming to arrange some online 1-1 sessions and in person workshops next year, so watch this space! 🙏🏻
Great video and shots Tim. I was in Amsterdam in March but mostly shot architecture. Nice to see some of the familiar spots. Good call on not giving your opinion on some matters. It's a no win situation most times these days.
Thank you! It’s such a cool city. I really want to go back as I feel I only just scratched the surface. And yeah, I used to be vocal about my political opinions on social media but I stopped that. It never ends well
Thanks Tim great video.
Cheers, Manny!
This was cool man!
Thank you mate! Really enjoy your channel by the way 🙏🏻
@@timjamiesonphotos anytime and thanks man!

Nice video. Not sure how the free hugs concept would go down where l come from but Amsterdam always seem a bit chilled.
Haha thanks, where is it you live?!
Hi Tim,
I have just discovered your channel and am a new subscriber. I like the content and advice, but what really makes me want to watch your videos is the fact that you are so well-spoken. There are so many youtubers with good content, but I find it unbearable to listen to their dreadful diction. I have no issue with accents: in fact I like many of them. Your speech is an absolute pleasure to listen to - thanks.
Ah that’s so kind thank you David! 🙏🏻
8:33 and 9:50 - imo the best shots in this episode, both absolutely fantastic!
Thanks so much bro! Appreciate that 🙏🏻
Next time in Amsterdam take the train to Haarlem - it's super
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
You said street photography is 99% failure. I found when I switched to film that changed for me because I was no longer just shooting what was in front of me. I will put my camera to my eye and think nah not good enough. Being much more selective and contemplating if this shot is worth it really made me end up with better photos. It does take longer though because sometimes you only take a couple shots a day but they are the best ones of the day cuz you waited for the right moment.
Yeah that’s true, but even being very selective with film ends up very expensive!
@@timjamiesonphotos it definitely is
The tribute to the Israelis kidnapped was so poignant. Beautiful captures.
I'm not even a novice. But im learning.
I checked a book of Ernst Haas' out of the library this fall, "Color Photography". It included a few images of ripped up posters. I look for posters to photograph, I haven't found any yet.
Yeah he was certainly known for making a lot of abstract work including ripped posters. I fear those kind of scenes are becoming less and less these days in favour of digital ads over print. Big cities are the place to be to find those kind of ripped poster shots for sure
Keeping politics out is cool, oh and by now everything has been done in street photog, so its hard not to copy, the main thing is to make it your own. We are all different people, be different when its all been done hahahaha
Nailed it with the political thoughts as a news documentary shooter my personal thoughts never come into it I have to document the scene as honestly as possible leaving my own bias behind. Cracking video again cheers
Thank you! 🙏🏻
@@timjamiesonphotos always best in those situations to stay as neutral as possible and just concentrate on your job.
I'd say even more than 99% of the photos aren't "keepers". That's for me at least - still got a lot to learn.
GJ! 🙏🏼
Cheers bro 🙏🏻
Nice photos greta compositions, just personal point of view on the exposure, i find the photos a bit over expose, just my opinion.
Glad you like the compositions :)
10:19 is so amazing it reminds me of saul leiter
Thank you!
What type of focus settings were u using
Manual
What a sensible move it is to not share with us your political viewpoint; it is much appreciated.
40mm ?
23mm f/2 so 35mm ff equivalent
Almost all the stills in this video look overexposed! Why?
All the photos in this video are technically perfectly exposed. I think you may be used to looking at high contrast images that have been edited to look that way, or perhaps you’re not a fan of the film aesthetic which typically captures high dynamic range photos which is the aesthetic I like :) - but to say they are overexposed is wrong 😊
How do you get triggered to recognise a ppl scene compared to an aesthetic one? Are you creeping y strolling throgub tiny Amsterdam streets staring at ppl? :)
I just observe people and then photograph a moment when I’m in the right place and it’s interesting to me. With photos more focusing on aesthetics I find a scene and wait for someone to walk through - I find that approach a bit boring these days :)
@@timjamiesonphotos haha I feel personally attacked ;)
Though I like someone like nina papiorek who seems to combine architecture and street in aestethically pleasant photos without going super dark
So you follow a group/person thwt is interesting to you?
Also love the dig at the misses and the quaint coffeeshop at around the 12min mark
