  • Amir looks over a lifetime of trauma and adversity that have etched a deep grove in his heart but became a pivotal point for his soul. He examines all the pieces of his early life to see how they intersect or oppose each. Because Amir goes into detail about his past while he unravels it to make sense of life, this episode carries a content warning of past sexual and physical abuse. Yet, we watch him become empowered as he decides what beliefs to bring forward as "his" and which ones he can safely leave behind. His nervous system was under constant attack from being the target of ridicule and judgment by the grown-ups around him, who were too involved in their inner turmoil to see him. As a result, he became a sensitive boy. So it was difficult for him to know what was his and what was theirs that they projected onto him. Sadly, they could not hear the inner cry of a boy begging to be seen, heard, and, most of all, loved.

He has become something awe-inspiring. It is incredible how he had to grow himself up, not having anyone else to lean on. His strength of character is remarkable. I appreciate your input, Mel.

What a heart you have. So kind and forgiving, the very thing religion teaches. I’m sorry you didn’t get the same kind of love that you are and that you give.

That is so well said, Diane! Amir is impressive despite not getting what he needed and deserved growing up. It is moving to see that his heart has not become hardened. Thanks for commenting.

so sad to hear stories like this, so hard for me to comprehend how a parent can be so insensitive and not support their child, yet still call themselves a christian. The emotional scars may last forever. You showed great strength and resilience in sharing your story. I wish you much happiness and peace with yourself!

It is sad when people use religion to judge, especially coming from a parent. So hard to comprehend. He has colossal strength and selflessness to share a complicated and personal story to help others. Thank you, Daniel.
