You're like a kid getting excited for trying something new for the first time. I used to take the sleeper bus from HCMC to Nha Trang to visit a friend back then, it wasn't as fancy as the one you're in but it was great as I was able to sleep in a bus. It just had those recliner seat but I was able to stretch out my leg and you didn't have your own "cabin" like yours. I think those older cheaper recliner bus are still running at lower cost. You must admit, VN offers food and services at different price point so even lower income people can get fresh good seafood or be able to travel.

This is the nicest sleeper bus I've ever seen! Def better than any capsule hotel.
This is a luxury sleeping bus, the cheaper ones have 3 rows and 2 walkways and no curtain, but cost 50% less ....you can fold the back to sit like car chairs
I love this bus
If you can't sit upright it ain't worth it. Tha means you can't do any work on laptop or even surf the web. Not everyone want to sleep through the 6 hour ride.
I was im Sapa in 2018 me and my Vietnamese girlfriend we trac to the highest peak in Sapa it was cold and foggy.. we stayed a couple of days in Sapa town then we stayed in the village with the family that was awesome experience .. then from there we went to are Hotel in middle for rice fields it Called The Topas Ecologe very nice place .. enjoy your journey. Stay safe.

I think is best not to smell the red blanket. The bus that I took, after dropping off the passengers, I witnessed the staff used the blanket to dust off any dirt left by the previous passenger and refold again for the next passenger to use. No sanitizing was made. My suggestion is to wipe the area before using.😅

I've done the sleeper bus in Cambodia in August from Sihanoukville to Siem Riep. And apart from a few jumps because of massive potholes in the road, I can highly recommend it 😃

How long did it take from Hanoi to Lao Cai (not sapa), do you remember?
It's about nearly 290km from Hanoi to Lao Cai, it takes about 4h30'. And from Lao Cai to Sapa nearly 35km the Pass road.
