Have always had a special place in my heart for Peter and his skills. He's incredible. My dad (Johnny Civera) was a professional drummer, and was Peter's first teacher way back when Peter was only four or five. He had the chops even then. Amazing. Peter makes his drums sing.
Most solos lull me into super- boredom. I guess because I've been playing and watching for several decades. Peter's solos are a cut above a lot of others. Always have musical context and makes the song better. I might be the only drummer,a working one no less that generally doesn't enjoy solos. I only wanna do them when it feels right and improves things. Bill Stewart, Jeff Hamilton,Hoenig,Blade are great soloists too.
Great variation on 'Northern Cross' first recorded with Steps Ahead in early 1980s! I heard this live at LACMA a couple years ago, the song has progressed into a form I never would have thought possible, the genius of Peter Erskine!
Вот смотрю,с возрастом ноги уже не так работают,а РУКИ-Золотые!Браво! Here I look, with age, the legs no longer work like that, and the HANDS are GOLDEN!Bravo!
Awesome solo but I have to point out something that bugs me, the placement/height of the kick drum beater. It looks like it's almost at the top, which kills a lot of the tone!
I love those Elvin Jones quotes at 2:00. Also people who complain about this solo are the people who cant find the 1,if you know what i mean. Peter Erskine is going thru the musical/drumming history in this solo, and some youtuber knows better, lol.
Peter's great..this little drum break was OK..1:07 trying to figure out what is so funny..The groove coming back in at 2:35 sounds great. He should've soloed around that groove instead of playing something totally different and less energetic...Peter should slim down a little.. You don't see many older heavyset men around. The heart goes...
you need to say this to PE in person...go ahead...he won't hit you...but I encourage you to tell him to his face what you think about him...and get back to us on that please
Other drummers have a drumset three times as big, but they don't get as much colours out of them. Peter is a true master.
Absolutely, i agree
Give examples
Morten Lund from Denmark has the same creativity. Those jazzers are great drummers 🥁🥁🥁
@@bebobalulaMorten Lund is Crazy good yes
What a great solo, what a great drummer.
I've loved Pete since the Weather Report days. True master and a very nice guy.
It's so nice to hear a drummer who breathes when he solos and doesn't try to create WW2 in 3 mins.
because he CANT
@@bobabooey8367 he can, but luckily he is a musician and not a gymnast like so many drummers are nowadays
When silences sound groovy! Great stuff!
Saw Peter Erskine back in the 70s when he was with Maynard Ferguson. He was incredible back then and still is today.
Love Peter Erskine
holy crap those drums are tuned sooooo delicious

That's called experience, skill, wisdom, and sophistication.
Love watching the great drummers Erskine..gadd etc.
He holds your interest, that is something a lot of drummers will never get!
Tasty drummer always loved his playing he was my fav in weather report
his interplay on '8.30' LP with Jaco was brilliant.

Awesome drummer!! Peter is an absolute favorite!😮

Llevo 50 años jugando y mis piernas ya no me responden, pero mis manos vuelan y mi mente crea paisajes musicales, así es con la edad.
One ov my Favorites!! Love his playing over many years!!
No tension beautiful , just drum music
He was mega back before I was born and still is.
He’s playing each drum like a character in a play.
Peter Erskine is one of the most expressive musicians I've ever heard in my life, on or off the drum set.
Joyful. What a great musician.
YAMAHAから離れて数十年ぶりにTAMAのドラムを、日本製のドラムキットを再びお使いいただいていることを
とても誇りに感じます。ピーターさん、いつも素晴らしいサウンドをどうも有難う!!
Students, this is the result of practice.
... and good taste
ITS AMAZING, THE VERY BEST EVER SOLO, GROOVE, EMOTION AND FEELING. THANKS PETER FOR ALL MUSIC AND INSPIRATION.
just necked a glass of wine watching this incredible solo
Tasty clip! Thanks for posting this
It's not because the guy is super musical and has excellent technique, that everything he does is wonderful ...
still love your work!!
Como pessoas dão deslike em um vídeo desse??? Que loucuraaaaa...
Awesome solo but I have to point out something that bugs me, the placement/height of the kick drum beater. It looks like it's almost at the top, which kills a lot of the tone!
guy with the sax is digging it
So smooth Fantastic!
Восхищён, мастер!
He is like Santa Claus on the drums, such a nice guy.
Watch the wrist action .....WOW EXCELLENCE!!!!!
Fantastic!
So Great!
what a perfect (also :)) left hand technique!
Speechless.........
love it!!

Peter is so good technically that everything he does looks easy and effortless. His dynamics and nuance are beautifully done. He is a true master.
Jesuuuusss
Always in the pocket even when he's out of it!
Lovely
Viva, Peter!
Awesome musician/drummer
Demasiado tendrás preparado otro?
nice solo
My hero!
Un maestro
さすが、ええソロをしばきよるわ!
WOW!!!!
Un grande!!!!!!!!!
Great drummer, jedan u nizu velikana, Cobhan, Gadd etc.. ⚒️🗿🛠️
What a great spirit
anyone knows which kind of snare he uses in this video?? Thanks
tama star maple
@@bmoredrummer correct
Any clue what kind of a bass drum beater he's using here? Very interesting to see the placement of it. Very high off center.
Vic Firth VicKick Beaters Wood Shaft
@@avantgarde423 Thanks. I appreciate it.
Great!
He finally gets to play tastier kits with Tama!
Plain and simple Peter is a swinging bad ass
キレイな音でドラム叩く。
Tasty control.

カウベルなんだろ?
I'm a drummer and I hate drum solos. I usually make it about 20 seconds in, max. But, I had to watch all of this one.
Classic Erskine About 1:00 In

Nice left foot (hi hat) playing
Kids - pay attention! 😄
Swings like mad.
Shit that was beautiful!!!😂🍻
he played with steely years ago, need i say anymore, must have been good with the dots
The drummer all the pros go to
its actually Saul from homelands in an undercover drumming role.
When I was a kid, when musicians reached 50 yo, they sucked. Not anymore.
How old are you?
@@keithcrupi9572 fitty three. BTW: what I wrote isn't necessarily true, but it was my perception.
@@Xformat01 we're the exact same age- I was thinking of Buddy still playing great through his 70's
@@keithcrupi9572 Good call. In fact, did Buddy even slow down? I never felt that he did. :)
like how he copied Benny Grebs warm up
That bass player doesn’t get it at all
The difference between a Master and the average drummer ..
He plays as if he were two drummers.
It's as if a brain surgeon has learned to play drums 😃 Quite unique.
Forse il peggior solo di Erskine
Any pro can do what Erskine does. There are warm-ups going on in music stores that sound like this. Overpriced drums match an overrated player.
Internet idiot!
+Andie Laidlaw Yeah, seriously
This is one of Pete's worst, most disjointed performances and you are still defending the guy. None of you are musicians I take it.
Internet Idiot!

Morbidly obsess. Go see a medical doctor for help.
Goofy response
So what?
