I play in a Nirvana tribute band and we’ve done loads of searching to find that perfect tone, our singer uses a Peavey Deuce and it sounds incredible. Weighs a ton, though. Don’t shoot me if I don’t remember the settings exactly right, I’m a drummer and don’t need to count further than 4.

He most certainly did not nail SRV's tone... SRV's tone is thick and much less brighter, and tends to resonate a much heavier sound reflected by the strings he uses... SRV's strat for the most part doesn't sound like a strat when he put it through that tube screamer, and that's what makes it unique, especially at a time when many of his contemporaries wield the strat...
Like Gilmour and SRV, Cobain's tone is absolutely perfect for the music in which it's used. There are no bad sounds, just more and less appropriate ones for any given scenario

You play well. But you should give Gilmour another shot. He wasn’t such a choppy blues player. His tone was warm with delay and a little reverb. He typically was using the neck and mid pickups for leads. Looking for that glassy tone. Almost like Eric Johnson.

For those wanting to see Brian May of Queen’s tone settings, Brian May’s tone is hard to replicate because it all comes from his guitar, the Red Special. He built by hand in the ‘60s with his dad, electronics and everything, to get it exactly as he wanted it.

Okay, yes, it's not the same as the amp they have, but it is the settings they use. One can experiment with these tones with their own amps and can make their own sound. It also gives you the ideal values of treble, bass, and mid that you can use to try and reach the original tone. Is it perfect? Of course not! But it is an option for people to explore tones and new boundaries!

Okay, yes, it's not the same as the amp they have, but it is the settings they use. One can experiment with these tones with their own amps and can make their own sound. It also gives you the ideal values of treble, bass, and mid that you can use to try and reach the original tone. Is it perfect? Of course not! But it is an option for people to explore tones and new boundaries!
