He's singing about been a man in grey, but he's dressed in a purple jumper and green Rupert the Bear style plaid trousers. Just the sort of attire one might have got from C&A in the late 70s early 80s.
C&A is a Dutch clothing retailer although at one point they were huge in the UK. I believe the family who owns it is the richest family in the Netherlands. It has been around for some time, like over 100 years. Pretty basic stuff, budget clothes for practical wear. I heard they were trying to get fancier more recently.
Sadly, this song NEVER seems to lose its relevance, but here's to the day when kids have no idea what this song is talking about, and may WE have the voices in the meantime. I DO have a say in the war games that WE play.
@SinRainer The year was circa 1980ish .. so quality will be poor . in those days the camerawork wasnt the best in that if you watch as they individually pick out the band members playing .. its not in time to the music or relelvant to the particular instrument being played .. this was half due to a dodgy camera operator and half to the non-ska loving/aware mixing desk operator! Lucky The Specials made up for it with their great ability to mask these deficiencies then! :-)
Fantastic Song, Fantastic Group, Shit Camerawork .. just awful! .. but that was the Eightiies I suppose! Come back Jerry Dammers and reform with the rest of them ... please!
My favourite Specials track
Mine too.

Pitching pennies against a wall next door to Tom Cruise buys a question or two from Zahal. Like beef in Holland Park.
I love this, I also love the cover by Anaal Nathrakh, who says grind can't cover ska?
A truly wonderful version of a classic song......... Shame about the clothes....lol...... It wasn't all Fred P's and Dogtooth... ;-)
