  • Some William Shakespeare quotes are known for their beauty, some Shakespeare quotes for their everyday truths and some for their wisdom.
    As the most quoted English writer, Shakespeare created more than his fair share of famous quotes. We often talk about Shakespeare’s quotes as things the wise Bard is saying to us, but we should remember that some of his wisest words are spoken by his biggest fools. For example, both ‘neither a borrower nor a lender be,’ and ‘to thine own self be true’ are from the foolish, garrulous and quite disreputable Polonius in Hamlet.

    Strange that Shakespeare (or one of his characters rather) said "Love all, but trust few". I don't think you can love without also trusting. At least that hasn't been my experience. (If you think you can, your "love" isn't worth anything.)
    Regarding the quote about "doing nothing", by doing nothing, something WILL happen - just not what you want, usually. It's also possible that by doing something, you won't get what you want anyway.
    What am I supposed to glean from "The best is yet to come"? Context? Surely, in the abstract we can't know that. What does "best" mean anyway?
    "If your mind dislikes something, obey it." Really? Is Shakespeare (or his character) suggesting that one ought to obey one's intuition? Intuition may be mistaken. Much that's in the mind actually SHOULD BE ignored, at least 90 per cent, since a lot doesn't serve us. (Consider how heavy and thick is our conditioning, the repetitive patterns, habits of the mind.)

      Have you ever had a teenage child? Believe me, you always love them but you can't always trust them. Love goes deeper than you understand. I haven't read any more of your comment as I can't be arsed.

    • @yacovmitchenko1490
      @yacovmitchenko1490 3 роки тому +1

      @@maggieadams8600 Well, it's possible to be aware when one is being deceived and/or misled, yet the climate of trust can remain by virtue of the love. How is that? Because notwithstanding the deception, love sees that the person can change, or at least sees the best in the person, the best that the person is capable of, instead of being on the lookout for the next deception. The latter tendency is what the ego does - the ego that has all sorts of expectations, that is trying to control the situation or people. By "trust" I mean in a general sense: you see the best in the person, you have faith in it. If the person makes mistakes, or stumbles into a ditch, you trust that sometimes you have to leave him alone, that he will benefit (or learn) from having fallen. Trust doesn't preclude the awareness of when you're being deceived. Generally speaking, I think it's better to be deceived rather than being on the lookout for deception, which only strengthens or deepens mutual alienation. If mistrust prevails, how can there be an authentic relationship of any kind? (Forget love.)

    • @sorellman
      @sorellman 3 роки тому +1

      You love all humans unconditionally. That does not mean you can or that you should trust. A couple's love, that is a different story.
      "If you mind dislikes something, obey it." This is an old Far East concept. Do not fight the storm, bend with the wind as the reed does. A strong wind can topple a big oak tree, but never the reed. It could also mean, trust your intuition.
      "The best is yet to come" is also a Far East concept. Things are never perfect, reason why we continue to seek perfection for all of our life, the idea being the best will one day come.
