I just want to add you are amazing and I appreciate your help and information. Going through this process has made me physically and mentally more ill. Now that I have been approved I am hoping soon to start feeling better a little bit. It has been a complete nightmare with paperwork and doctors visits. I am wore out. I have had two spinal surgeries which have left me with bad nerve damage in my neck and lower back. So basically all 4 limbs have been affected. Thank you Dr. Ed!

My mom was initially denied and she went in and the case worker told her they always deny the time but the key is to immediately appeal the decision and usually you can get your disability.

    • @forapps9364

The key is to start gathering your documents before you apply. I have a rare genetic nuerological disorder. My doctor ordered a dna test so that he could know which genes were affected and how best to treat me. So I had extensive neurological testing, a dna test (dna does not lie!) and years of doctor notes detailing my fatigue and inability to work due to no muscle strength in my hands and feet. So, when I applied I attached all these records plus doctor's notes summarizing my outlook. The ssa contacted my primary and after 1 additional form was completed, I was approved. That was 20 years ago where everything was physical paper sent through the mail. I know it's more difficult today and you usually have better results if you can afford an attorney who specializes in SSDI applications but having said that, the more specific tests, notes and letters you can submit, the better your case is. Wishing you and your mother better days. ❤🙏

@@theedeevynegoddessNo. I am a retired Social Security claims representative. About a third get approved first time around. Of those that appeal, about half get approved, a bit more than that is they have a good lawyer who specializes in Social Security. Often those who get approved do so because their condition gets worse. Social Security disability requirements are pretty strict, especially for those under age 50.

Just found your channel and you answered a question I had regarding being on disability before age 65 and Medicare. At 65 people can switch to a Medigap plan without having to answer the medical underwriting questions. My sister-in-law is deaf and filed for SSDI when she retired at 62. She is 64 and is currently on her retirement health plan. It is good to know that when she turns 65 she has the “do-over” option (get a Medigap or stay on her retiree medical plan). She stayed on her retiree plan when she got her Medicare card because she had a child that was under 26 on the retiree medical plan. Again thanks for making it clear on her options when she turns 65 in 2024.

So wont bore you with details but try to do it yourself first when you been denied two times then go find one. In the end you will have to find all the dociments yourself. @@user-cg9qu8mz8u my attorney paid for and collected my medical documents, then billed me for them after I was awarded favorably by the judge. Also, attorneys have access to social security documents that we don't have access to (as far as I am aware). For example, I was not sure what the SS-appointed examiners' opinions were until I read what the judge wrote (my lawyer had access to the same info, she just did not tell me). Their opinions were favorable and helpful in my court case, though SS still denied me twice in spite of their favorable opinions.

Dr. Ed: I just turned 65 this month & have been on SSDI since 2010.
My question: Once you turn 65, how many months is the period (Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period??) to switch your (my case:) Medicare Advantage Plan back to original Medicare + supplements (Medigap)? Also, do I have to go through underwriting if I do this switch within this time period?
Thanks! I've got to get this taken care of.

During the the application process early on, my former boss, out of pity, paid me $500 per week for 8 weeks so could pay my rent and not get behind in bills. But I did not work at all. I filed in March, had received that pity pay from March-May, so is SSA likely to deny my application for receiving that

Question: I was awarded SSDI in 2019. I received a 'notice of over payment' letter from The SSA in 2022 which stated that I received $89,000.00 in SSDI benefits from 2019-2021, that I should have received $65,000.00 in SSDI benefits and because of this I received an over payment and owe the SSA $24,000.00.
My bank statements show I received $41,000.00 in SSDI benefits for the period in question from 2019-2021. The SSA 1099 'Explanation of SSDI benefits forms' that I received for 2019, 2020 and 2021 add up to a combined total of $44,000.00 of SSDI benefits that I received.
Wouldn't my bank statements and SSA 1099 'Explanation of SSDI benefits forms' from 2019, 2020 and 2021 alone prove that an error was made on SSA's part, regardless of the claims they make??
I requested a letter of explanation for the over payment and after receiving a vague letter of explanation I also received another letter from SSA stating that they used $15,000.00 of my future SSDI benefits to pay off part of the over payment, leaving me with a reduced over payment balance owed of $9,000.00.
I immediately filled out and mailed a 'Request of Reconsideration' to SSA via certified mail. Providing bank statements my 2019, 2020 and 2021 SSA 1099 Explanation of SSDI benefits forms. I also pointed out that while I appreciated the new $9,000.00 reduced over payment balance, it along with the $15,000.00 the SSA used to help pay off part of the over payment was based on the incorrect amount of the original $89,000.00 SSDI benefits that the SSA stated I was paid.
I also pointed out that SSA claimed I should have been paid $65,000.00, not $89,000.00, yet my bank statements and SSA 1099 forms prove I didn't receive either amounts of benefits according to my bank statements and the SSA 1099 forms. I asked "stupidly" is it possible I was under paid?
While waiting for SSA's response to my 'Request for Reconsideration' I received my 2022 SSA 1099 'Explanation of SSDI Benefits' and in the explanation of 'box 3' section it included two lines with an asterisk next them and below the normal deductions, stating *$13,500.00 in SSDI benefits for 2022 were used to pay for 2020 benefits and *$6,500.00 in SSDI benefits for 2022 were used to pay for 2019 benefits.
I contacted my local SSA office they couldn't give me any answer, stating that my case has yet to be reviewed. Finally after nine months, SSA sent me a letter stating that they are now reviewing my case. I'm freaking out. There is more to this story that I've left out due to length, but I am freaking out. It's like I'm suppose to ignore some of what SSA has stated, given vague explanations and no answers to basic concerns in regard to my 2023 SSA 1099' Explanation of Benefits form'.
Honestly I'm beginning to wonder if there are some rogue agents within the SSA and that I am being scammed. Just by the way the SSA has come up with numbers and claims. Like no matter what I show as what I see as indisputable proof and no wrong doing on my part, SSA will still force me to pay the over payment. I mean if they can show me show proof that this was somehow my fault and was incorrectly over paid, I have no problem repaying what SSA states that I owe.
