You have a lovely voice and quiet music that both make your videos enjoyable. Thanks for slowly panning the brocante so we could enjoy the antiques. You bought some beautiful things!
Ahhh who doesn't love a good rainstorm (except getting caught in one I agree) but while sitting comfy in your home -- the best! I really loved the pedestal bowl with blue flowers, that was just gorgeous.
You know about these old radios there is a company (or maybe several) that transform them into modern radios. (And maybe even CD players or something) Very cool. Some of these radios are beautiful.
I so enjoyed the variety of your post. I live in Oklahoma, my maternal roots are from France, so I have a special heart for the country. Two years ago I spent a month in Paris and took several tours. One was to three castles in the Loire Valley. I fell in love with the Amboise, but there wasn't enough time to explore the city and swore I would return someday. I can envision riding along the river, lunch in a cafe, etc., like you did. Thank you for sharing all those moments. I've watched all your posts and look forward to following you and your hubby's adventures. Linda M
1:50 My cat would absolutely adore a Duchesse Brisee! Now that I know the name I'll keep my eyes out for one. The brocantes and auction houses are so fun to explore. It's not even necessary to buy stuff. It's just fun to see all the beautiful old things.
Merci beaucoup Beth, de partager tes achats et découvertes au Bric à Brac. C'est fascinant toutes ces belles choses qu'on peut y trouver. Cette belle maison devient lentement mais surement un Havre de de paix. J'ai hâte de voir la suite.
Having made a few desultory efforts and taken a few courses over the years, I love your little on screen easy lessons in vocabulary. Who knew the word for throw was plaid? Not me.
Glad you got a kick out of the hoof lamps! (No pun intended) 😄 I did show several of the pieces to be delivered from the brocante: the buffet, the chaise longue, and the armoire. I also got a small table that I didn't show.
Thanks for the info! I didn't know what it was called or what it was used for. I looked it up and it seems it's a type of coffee drink. I thought it was maybe for serving ice cream. 😄
Loved the shots in Tresors. (We’re about 30 min from Amboise and a few of our rooms are furnished from there). If you make the ride to Blere, there are two emmaus like stores within blocks of each other you’d love the variety (Main Ouverte & La Boit d’a cote)
10:30 I'm an American living in France. For some of your American viewers who may not know, most bedrooms in France have no closet. People are expected to use their own armoires. Of course you can find beautiful antique examples like this one. But also places like IKEA sell the modern version with all the variations in ways to kit them out with drawers, shelves, and rods. It may seem strange not to have a built in closet but it has its advantages. For one thing, you're not tied into having the closet in one spot in the room. You can rearrange your closet just as you rearrange your other furniture.
Or in the case if really old houses like this one, you often have rooms that were previously dressing rooms, servant's rooms or pantries, and things like that that have been repurposed as closets. So two of our three bedrooms do have those kinds of closets.
Visited that area 5 years ago and loved it. Have you any thoughts about how French people view expats moving to their country? I thought long and hard about such a move but decided not for me right now - living vicariously through you folks. Good luck.
Loved your bike tour of some of Amboise. (Roads have less pot holes than in the UK!). It would be great to see more by bike. Is there an EMMAUS nearby? Great treasure troves.
Got all mighty was I shocked when I went to visit my English aunt in Sussex last year, the pot holes in the main roads were gigantic! What has happened to the UK? Compared to our fab roads in France, it's disturbing
Thanks to your videos I am making Amboise the second stop on my personal ‘tour de France’ maybe I’ll run into you while I am there in September! Looks like a great sized town. Have you met other Americans there? An ebike sounds like a great way to get around but i haven’t been on a bike in more than 30 years. We may have to test the old adage 😉
I would say Amboise is not the easiest town to ride a bike in, in the centre ville. There are no bike lanes; you have to ride in the street, and the old quarter streets are busy. So for getting around in the old part of town, a bike isn't convenient. But if you want to venture out to the edges of town, away from the busy old quarter, or you want to take one of the bike paths along the Loire, then a bike would be fantastic! And yes, I have already met several other Americans. There's a great expat group that holds events, and I've been twice, and have met some great people.
Try the (free) French websoite Le Bon Coin. It is enormous and you'll be able to furnish your house well and very cheaply. You will need some basic French, though.
Nice chairs - love a good (and cheap) divan! Are you guys across the river from the chateau or on the same side? My friend and I wondered about living on that side when we visited last summer. Watch out for those gnat swarms by the river in June!
I absolutely love your winning auction items! Very pretty. How you doing at the house by yourself now? Feeling a little more normal or still kind of creepy?
I'm feeling more normal, though still prone to getting spooked at night. 😆 A few nights ago, one of my smoke alarms started blaring for no reason at all. That was disturbing. But otherwise I'm doing great!
Bonjour! Thanks for asking about my art. Right now my personal Instagram account is probably the best place to see what I've been working on: instagram.com/beth_hempton
@@AustintoAmboise merci ! Je trouve que c'est intéressant de mettre en relation votre travail d'artiste avec la manière dont vous rénovez votre maison 😊
That chair is beautiful! All of the furniture you purchased is stunning. I get goosebumps whenever I see antique or vintage pieces.
Love the chair!! Gorgeous💙
Beth, even with all you are doing while at the house you look so happy and relaxed. It really is becoming ‘home’ for you. Cheers to the house 🥂
I am feeling quite happy and relaxed now. Settling in. 😊

Thanks so much! 😊
Great to see little purchases and tour. Looking forward to sharing the journey from New Zealand.

It would be so cool to have one refurbished and modernized! They are beautiful.
The Irises!!! WOOOOWWW! Beautiful!! And i love the floor tiles! They seem to be in very good condition. You are so lucky!

Awww just love seeing Amboise in the spring time. So happy you’re making progress with furnishing your home.
Thank you!! 😊 It's feeling more like ours now, and less like we're just camping out.
Gorgeous chair. Your adventure makes me want to move to France. 🇫🇷
The chair is beautiful! Must be so fun buying furniture there!
It really is!

Yes, we look there sometimes, but the need to rent a van and pick things up makes it less convenient than other options.

We are on the same side as the chateau. Gnat swarms? 😵💫 Eek. Thanks for the warning!
Which side of the river do you live on? Looks like the right bank to me according to the architecture of your house, a bit like in Blois
We're in the Amboise centre ville - I guess that is the right bank.

That's unlikely! But thanks for watching.
