    The floor will be damp residue,probably built directly on to the ground,a salt buildup.
    The mould needs ventilation and some warmth to help dry the house out.
    We have just moved and it’s taken a week of solid heat to help the house retain the warmth..
    It’s a process

    I really love watching your vlogs. That was a shock to see the mold! I leave my house at 60 deg. F when I am away for 12 days but the humidity is usually 20% here in Montana and you were away from France for several months. JoJo is the sweetest dog 🐶 and seemed to take the flights and train in stride. Too bad your seat on the train didn’t have a window. There was a poor dog three times heavier and bigger than JoJo in one of those carriers that fit under the seat and he was so smashed into that bag that it was criminal. …..I loved seeing all your purchases including the needlepoint picture. All that work for $1.00! The painting of the woman was my favorite piece of art. Very beautiful.

    JoJo is a real cutie! You are really lucky that you can take him in the cabin on the plane. We've done two international moves with our dog and he had to fly in the pet area of the hold both times. That was really nerve-wracking! We expect to be able to drive him for the next move... 🤞🐶😊

    Repeated application of vinegar at 20% will eradicate the efflorescence on your flooring tiles. And install a VMC to keep the air renewed when you're not there, and also while you're there ! VMC = ventilation mécanique contrôlée.

    • @AustintoAmboise
      @AustintoAmboise  Місяць тому

      Yes, the vinegar solution is awesome and they sell it everywhere here in handy spray bottles. It's what I'm using on the wooden furniture too. And we're going to figure out some kind of ventilation for sure. Thanks for watching!

    Congrats : Your pronunciation of "Le diner est prêt" was very good. Your "R" was spot on and listening just this sentence I would not have guessed that you're from the States.
    Jojo needs to learn to bark in French to make local doggy friends.
    French people may not be a lot in small talk but I can assure you that there is a lot of small talk between people walking their dogs. It's a good way to know people because you usually meet the same people every day at the same time.

  • @bridgetkeyes6170

    Older French houses don't have modern damp courses which probably means that the ground floor needs more ventilation/heat input. The white stains you saw on the floor tiles may be damp rising through the floor rather than mould. This problem may only be winter empty house type thing and therefore liveable with once you move across. Jojo est trés mignon❤

    • @AustintoAmboise
      @AustintoAmboise  Місяць тому +1

      It's more than stains - it's a large buildup of fluffy white stuff! 😆 There's a lot of damp seepage on that particular tile floor, year-round, that we're trying to figure out how to best deal with. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Beth. I've read that there's a 25-lb weight limit for carrying on pets which includes the carrier. Did you run into that? Just wondering if they actually weigh your pet carrier before you board. Also wondered if they will let you buy the seat next to you for your pet (for in-flight seating between takeoff and landing). So sorry you are having to deal with all the mold. Quelle horreur! Why was the gas turned off? Did the gas company just do that randomly while you were away? Glad you and JoJo were able to warm up! Looking forward to seeing your videos in the days ahead. 😊

    • @AustintoAmboise
      @AustintoAmboise  Місяць тому +4

      Hi Cindy, yes, there are weight limits and restrictions on the size of the carrier. It varies by airline. KLM was quite strict (only 17.5 lbs allowed for the dog + carrier!) and I followed it to the letter to avoid JoJo being denied travel. They didn't weigh or measure him or the carrier this time, but you never know if/when they might. I'm guessing they would let you buy the seat next to you - at full price. We didn't have to do that. I asked a flight attendant if I'd be able to put his carrier on the seat next to me if it remained empty. They were very nice, said it was no problem at all, and offered to move us to a row with an empty seat. Though they were adamant that he had to stay inside the carrier.
      The gas was turned off because there was a part changed on our gas connection - we think this is because Patrick asked them to change the metering. But in classic french style, they didn't communicate to us that it would result in them turning off the gas! 😅😩 So, not being there, we didn't know the gas was off and didn't know we needed to ask them to turn it back on. c'est la vie en France! 🤣

      @LivinCindysLife Місяць тому

      @@AustintoAmboise Thanks so much for the pet flight info on KLM. We have a really big kitty (25 lbs without carrier), and we're stressing over ways to transport him. I heard there are private jet services that you can buy into with other pet owners looking for in-cabin transport. That may end up being our only option. :(
      Lordy, you must have been cold without heat, even for one night! Lucky you got the gas turned on rapidement!

    • @AustintoAmboise

      Bonjour! In the Austin airport there is a "pet relief" area, but not in the Amsterdam airport. JoJo was not interested in using those anyway, which is typical of many dogs. JoJo has no trouble holding it overnight, so that's what I expected he would do on the plane. There was an absorbent liner in his carrier and I had dog wipes, but we didn't need either of those. He waited until we landed in Amsterdam & got through immigration and customs (which was very quick - no line). The efficiency of Schiphol airport is why we prefer it over Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. So as soon as we could get outside, we walked to the first patch of grass I found by a tree in the plaza, and JoJo relieved himself there. And yes, dogs do need a ticket to fly, which varies by airline. For our KLM international flight, the cost was €200.
