  • Does Adrian Newey get the credit he deserves for Red Bull's dominant F1 cars of 2022, 2023 and 2024 - and how does the technical team he's going to leave behind in 2025 actually operate?

Newey gets a lot of praise and it’s absolutely not the reason why he’s leaving.
Now it IS true that he can make much more money at another team because of his legacy. But the main reason why he’s leaving has to do with the whole Horner story.

It’s why he left. Neweys wife liked twitter posts which claimed that newey wasn’t getting the credit he deserved. It’s why he mentioned that he’s passing the baton. Newey also doesn’t like the drama going on at the team. This has been pointed out in many publications.

That's like chief engineer or CEO or can be directors/owners kinda like having pattern copyright of that conglomerate product racing team. Many underestimate the rise of red bull racing into the extreme racing game of F1 instead it's introduction and dominance as of late. There is only 1 man can be in charge of top. This news although not known to me before, but there has to be somebody behind it to beat others, thus make it more sense into this matter. Now I know the Guy. What more to believe other than the man's wife tweets isn't it, probably a right cause I think of a different level of a man, somebody that one could make a copy of.

Come on, read between the lines. Actually it's not even reading between the lines, it's right there on the page. Newey is famously well-known, but we're referring to how he's been given credit (or not) specifically by Red Bull and Horner. Not by whether F1 fans know his name or not.
Also, if you've been watching F1 since the 80s and you don't know Gordon Murray or Ross Brawn or Rory Byrne, you must not have been watching very closely. Even Colin Chapman was still around in the early 80s, and he was pretty much the greatest racing car designer in the history of the planet. 2021-2022, Newey is talking about his focus on suspension and its importance to a stable aero platform.
By late 2023, Andrea Stella (McLaren) and leading members of other teams are talking about how they’re focusing on, guess what? The importance of suspension with regard to the aero platform.
Newey was two years ahead of most in recognising this. Don’t forget, he was around when F1 originally got into ground effects, (which was when the term porpoising was first associated with F1 cars).
I’m not saying that’s the only secret sauce in Red Bull’s dominance but it’s an example of a key contribution by Newey. The guy is a legend for a reason.

I don't understand what he wants. Everyone is aware that Newey’s contributions to F1 are incomparable. Does he need a golden “Designed by Adrian Newey” plaque on every car he’s helped design? What more could Red Bull do to satisfy his ego? I don't understand why he needs this all of a sudden. It’s shameful that he’s using Horner’s controversy to find a way out of Red Bull. In every aero/ground effect season, his team was the standout. i dont know how much of these background engineers (in the video talked about) were with him? I doubt 90% were with him. So give this man a credit (Horner is trying to give them credit and keep saying Newey wasnt doing much is just an insult). Yeah it s not like all aero engineers dont know what they are doing. it is the practical experience that does matter. Knowing is half the equation, and means not much if you dont know the actual practical/physical implications/effects of your design. He is the 50% that actually does matter! Otherwise williams or ferrari should have been dominating/competing at the top of redbul which didnt exists until 2 decades ago. And they didnt create a new car, they just bought a team (from the sugar water advertising and sales) Every aero/ground effect influenced era was his domination. SO i think they dont give him enough credit. Having dominated this era, i think horner got too cocky, and it shows with his spat within the team.

This is actually a very important observation, and I think I agree with you. When all your staff disagree with each other, and all of them are kind of right, who's to blame? The boss. And the boss here is Christian Horner. No one should be surprised. The dude may be a shrewd tactician and a decisive leader in many ways, but in this particular way he has failed his team immensely.

2014-2020 was engine power domination era. With Honda's engine efficiency and Newey's aero expertise Red Bull put an end to that in 2021 with Verstappen winning his First Championship and the rest is history.

@@amenstal123 That´s true because Hamilton is a really good "average".
Max is clearly better than him, so anything "speed/car related" gets skewed aswell. When you see onboard of how Schumacher drove, or even Hakkinen, you see that they drive with finesse only Verstappen can match.
Not Barrichello or Montoya, not Alonso, nobody had the touch they did. They have better processing than the top drivers except for Verstappen who is as good as Schumacher was.
Hamilton is a focused pro, the most experienced "Alonso like" that has driven the wheels off of all kinds of machinery, and is at home at the car, but he is also better innately than Alonso by a smidge.
The differences are not big for sure, but Hamilton is no wonder driver as far as talent. He was the most focused, most accepted and most well liked driver though, and British. It came together for him.
Max would obliterate the opposition in those WDC cars considerably harder, and Rosberg could never beat him.
There is a reason Hamilton is an actual number 2 for Ferrari, to push LeClerc.
There is a reason why LeClerc was chasing Verstappen since karting and never made it happen. Mazepin was talented as much as LeClerc or Kvyat, perhaps Wehrlein and Piastri are as good, perhaps not quite. But I am confident in Saying Mazepin and kvyat are alike LeClerc in perception and execution. They are still solidly behind Verstappen´s innate faculties, and they were not quite pushing like Max.
He races to race, chases time and keeps being himself- meaning staying first where he belongs, and just keeps his distance time after time. Like Barrichello and Montoya(Russel and Norris), Hamilton is really good and a pro among pros, but there are limits.
There is a reason why Nakamura is touted as potentially the second best/most gifted chess player, by those that beat him in classic, and by Magnus "perhaps" Nakamura aswell, and that there are maybe several that are as smart as he is, who regularly challenged for top spots and/or number 2 in classic chess behind Carlsen.
There is say 3 homogenously intelligent guys who just want to win and respect each other as equals, and 15 less gifted geniuses, all chasing the best guy with 3 more IQ points than those at "the second best" rung of intellect. When they all do the same things, this is the difference.
That is true for F1 aswell.

Anything short of calling him the God of wind would be seen as downplaying his influence because people have been overrating him since 2010. The fact he was given credit for the last two dominant champions not named Lewis Hamilton shows you that narrative comes form Hamilton fanboys who can't deal with him not having the fastest car and feel the need to stress the engineers importance when anyone else has a dominant car. Meanwhile Mike Elliott wasn't being hailed as a messiah when he made the fastest car in F1 history no that was all in the driver apparently.
