I'm primarily a guitar teacher, but I learned bass before 6-string, and still love it dearly.
I teach a handful of bass students, and this is my go-to vid to show what the bass can do, instead of just playing roots and tonics.
Nate, you have done a fantastic job here dude. This is one of my favourite things on UA-cam.
Keep doin! what you're doin'!

Why don’t you just demonstrate what the bass can do tho?

Bro that was one of the sickest things I seen with all those styles how long have you been playing 🤘🏻
Please consider putting out lessons. I don't know if that's where your heart lies, but you definitely have the ability to inspire people to pick up the instrument and obviously the technique down. I think a good number of people would pay to learn from you.
Thank you! I'll consider it. :) Please leave lesson ideas below.

I'm interested in 8th and 9th technique

Honestly the four finger thing. I've worked on it and i find it extremely challenging to get the finger independence down (to avoid unintentional dead notes, especially the pinky-ring transition). Thanks!

As a guitarist, the bass guitar seemed a little dull to me. This video highlights to me my own ignorance and shows me the full potential of the instrument. Really good stuff.
Hey he just did this same thing but on guitar
@@TheKiddingStar not slap on the guitar
Wardruna Ragnar your mom is fat😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
PUGSNOTDRUGS 579, nice 5 year old insult
I think that the real strenght of bass guitar is actually not playing flashy, complicated things, but staying in the back and creating solid foundation for the rythm and groove of the music. Even something simple can be really good and add a lot to the song. But of course there are also great bass players, who put their instrument on front.
As a somewhat innovative bassist from the 1970's, this is a mind blowing display of technique, sequence, taste and melodic invention. Congrats on your mastery and willingness to share and inspire. Thank you Nathan! A few more ideas for techniques: left hand over the top of fret board instead of the usual under, bass over the head ala J. Hendrix, plucking and strumming the strings behind the bridge and/or nut in variation or at the same time, playing the strings like a drum with the palms over the pickups (left hand under and right hand over, or both over), using a bow, using volume/tone controls for bass sound effects, bass is the place.
I’ve watched this like 20 times. Now I’m a Patreon because of this video. Thank you
His technique in any style is flawless.A frikin monster!
I have continuously watched 0:42 - 0:53 for the past hour and a half. Easily over 300 times. I can't get over that melody. So perfect.
Technically it's absolutely fantastic, but somehow you made it into a gorgeous song as well. The last 30 seconds are beautiful.
When I saw this, I thought, "It's impressive, of course, but this person is still a human being. There's no reason I couldn't replicate this."
So after many months of practice, I'm proud to say I can fret the E string EXACTLY like the person at 1:58.
That staccato was so sick especially with that incredible tone as icing on the cake
Imagine doing that entire solo and that person in the end touches the wrong chord.

1:00 fingerstyle is the best part
This defines the parameters clearly. Fabulouse teaching.
That palm muted double thumb finger plucking killed it, you are an absolute badass.
Was just on the Mayones site drooling over their beauties & saw this video. You are one sick, sick bastard! I mean that as a compliment: This video made my day.
A bass player friend of mine once told me that every technique playable on the guitar could be executed on the bass as well, provided one had the chops to do it. Non-musicians (and even some musicians themselves) don't always understand: those bass strings are spaced MUCH farther apart than guitar strings & it takes some serious finger strength to pull those sorts of feats off! Well done & impressive work, dude!
Wish I could get a Mayones Regius sent to me.... I've been dreaming of that guitar for years, but my wife & wallet are in agreement that my guitar collection is enough for now & that my other hobby of collecting knives is less expensive & doesn't take up as much space in our one bedroom apartment... The woman isn't wrong, but there's always room for "just one more" right?
This is sick 0:24 double thumb at 0:42 is pretty damn cool as well.

you have made me cry. not anywhere else have i seen such beautiful power and graceful display of technique. Thank you, Nathan. - An inspired bass player
With that in your pocket it makes you a improve master.. well deservedly too I might add.
Clearly you have great dedication and a good heart for sharing these skills so that other might learn.
I was 15 when I started playing bass and when I first discovered this video. I remember how absolutely in awe I was, especially at 0:41. I played it over and over again, it never got old.
I've come a long way since then, certainly no where near Nate but now I understand how incredibly demanding these techniques.
I'm glad I found this video again, so nostalgic and made me reflect on how far I've come!
man 1:00 is probably my fave out of this whole vid, it just sounds so good
absolutely incredible, especially the sweeping which i have never seen anyone do on a bass before....
That was amazing. I’m a musician myself (piano) and am always in awe at people with your skill level. Thank you for sharing your talent.

Keep it up, man!!
One of the best things modern music has to offer . I'm amazed
it is my personal opinion that Nathan Navarro is one of the greatest bass players alive and this video serves no small part in that belief
The composition of this video is just incredible, it should be a song of itself!
The last 30 seconds of this just sounds so damn good. I want that as a full length album!

I just now stumbled upon this guy and his crazy bass playing. I think there's a better chance for me to flap my arms wildly and start to fly than to ever be this good. Just his thumb technique alone is scary. Let me just set my guitar down, and I'll be outside flapping my arms....
