    I spent my morning trying to get a grasp on "WHY the universe began" The fundamental forces and laws of nature and how they conspired to create our reality. The abstract mathematics that describe our universe with a precision of 10 to the power of 14...10billion 10 billions type of accuracy....and then I listened to you describe your bike. I heard the word beautiful ...the rest feels like quantum mechanics. I'm sure there was never a more va-va-voom scene talking about a weld before...you're a wonderful presenter.

    Very nice! I love my 1st gen La Roca, and the few changes Cjell made for the v2 are totally spot on. The high bottom bracket bucks the trend of low and slack a bit, but I’ve found it very helpful in the rough stuff. They are super fun bikes, get a lot of attention from the beautiful fillet brazing. Ride with pride!
    Also, I was watching your concerns about the bars and was thinking “gotta get ya some Mone risers!” and then bam, you pulled a set out. They’ll go great together!

      I'm open to racks! Though, I am not sure I can run a front rack because there's no middle eyelet at the top of the fork. I don't have too much experience with racks, though, so perhaps there are other ways of attaching them.

    A couple of lighting suggestions: If you continue to use a more conventional bar, like the Salsa, you can always run the light mount below the bar. (Placement may need to change if you're using a bikepacking bag up front.) The Mone riser bar should allow you to mount the light next to the stem, with the higher grip placement providing some protection. You might also roll the light mount forward, decreasing the light's height above the bar.

    Moné and Rivendell are the two bike brands I most want a frame from to accompany my Ritchey Swiss Cross canti. Your rig is *gorg* dude. Very practical and thoughtful build you've got on deck. Any thoughts on snagging a steel front fork or are you committed to the Whisky due to the weight, etc.? I've always had a thing for those insane Moné forks Cjell makes.

    That's sick. I built up an All-City Log Lady for the same reason, something that can ride on anything and can fit a wider tire than my gravel bike and a suspension fork if I want.Just had to get some gears on it cause the single speed with single track gearing is a pain on pavement

    I have a k-edge out front mount for my computer with a gopro mount on the bottom side, my battery light attaches to the gopro mount. The sinewave beacon does have a gopro mount adapter available. I know k-edge is not the only one that makes a double sided out front mount, and I've definitely seen people running dynamo lights on them.

    Gorgeous bike Hannah, and what luck that you managed to get one! About where to mount your light, if you're open to putting a front rack on it, you could mount it to the bottom of that and have it a bit further up from the ground :)

    I noticed that you are running a lot of spacers under your stem. Your fork has a carbon steerer tube and according to the manufacturer (whisky) it is only safe to have 30cm of spacers under the stem and you need to have only one spacer above the stem in order for the expanding plug to fully support your stem's clamping forces. Check Whisky's website for directions on using their fork. Installing it the way you have can lead to the steerer tube breaking, which will not be pretty. I'd hate for you to have an accident.

    • @queercyclist

    How are you liking the size large now that you’ve had it a while? I am also a 5’11” AFAB person who is planning (hoping!) to get a laroca when they’re back in stock at some point, and I’m thinking probably a size large…?

    • @queercyclist

      Hey Elliot! Yes, I really love it. I’ve got it pretty much dialed in at the point fit-wise. The large is definitely the right size for me. I also asked both my local bike shop and Cjell Mone about sizing and they all said large, so I imagine you’d likely be that size too. Are you near Atlanta? I’d be happy to meet up and let you ride mine.

    Awesome and exciting build! I’m totally with you on hydraulic brakes. Are the necessary? Maybe not, but they feel SO NICE! I do have a question re: your SP dynamo and sine wave light - what with the set up made you decide you needed a backup light in addition to the dynamo? I ask cause I want to go dynamo specifically to get rid of my battery lights, so I’m very curious as to your experience!

    • @queercyclist
      @queercyclist  3 роки тому +3

      I'm glad I'm not the only one who's on the hydraulic brakes train!
      So the reason I'd bring a backup light is because a friend and I went out one late afternoon on single track last winter and it got dark before we finished the trail. It was absolutely pitch black/couldn't see in front of our faces. And because it was single track and we were going slow, the dynamo couldn't produce enough power to keep the light on for more than a flicker. I've found that it's great on pavement or fast rolling gravel, but on single track and slow uphills the light is not as strong. I don't know if that's because of the SP dynamo (I've heard that SON hubs are better), but I definitely wouldn't want to be in the middle of the woods with only a dynamo light!

    • @queercyclist
      @queercyclist  3 роки тому

      I like it enough! It powers the light relatively well if the wheel is rolling fast enough. But on slow uphills it's flickers low. I wanted a SON dynamo (I've heard they're the best) but I wasn't able to find one when I was building up the bike.

    If you don't know (or care) anything about specs and geometry and geeky stuff, why did you desperately need this specific bike, made by a specific small manufacturer?
    Just grab a bike. Any bike.
    Also, you wanted the bike to be as light as possible, so you bought rigid fork. If weight was so important, why didn't you choose a carbon or aluminum frame?
    You were afraid of flipping over and the light would hit your chest? You are afraid of hidraulic brakes which are, basically, the standard? This is strange..
    I'm not bashing you, I just want to understand..
