The return to Kerwan certainly had a differently feel than the first visit. Landing in Metropolis in R&C1 was more like solving a mystery that had led you to an intriguing alien city bustling with activity. In R&C3 it was a return to a once-familiar place that now the center of a massive armed conflict. There's a strong sense of urgency in the Up Your Arsenal version, like everything is exploding around you and everyone is fighting, but you have to make it through to save the day. In the 2002 Ratchet & Clank, it was more of a feeling of curiosity, like you were almost unknown in this new strange place so far from home.
Man I can’t agree more. I love how much sense that makes! Like the way you describe the intensity of the return to metropolis and how the music feels like a familiar place and war breaking loose!
Exactly, I love how the music captures how different the atmosphere is in both games. The original OST is so mysterious, almost foreboding, but also bustling just like the city. Then in R&C 3 it's way more energetic to catch the giant ongoing battle that you walk in to the moment you enter the city. The sequel theme feels so familiar, but so different at the same time
I've always been a sucker for updated versions of old tracks. They really capture the feeling of "Everything's different but everything's the same". Well, at least for me, they do. Y'know, I really just like callbacks, remixes, and homages in general.
If only it wasn't just plain linear... that was my only gripe... but it did show Dr. Nefarious' submission video for a talent show. So that's pretty great.
Takes the calm, small scale fighting atmosphere of the first game into a full scale heavy war atmosphere of the third. It's not just Ratchet fighting a small army on his own this time, it's him fighting a new massive enemy regime with the rangers, and more casualties present.

@@superlombax1561 When i say "You don't fight alone this time", i do mean the moments when you help out the rangers in the battle against the Tyhrranoids.
Not entirely, it's technically different since it sounds a lot more dramatic, but I do agree that Metropolis is probably the most unique song in R&C1 and one of my favs in R&C3.
Yea all of the soundtracks in the newer games just sound like standard action music in a movie or rv show. I wish they kept making or remixing unique songs like this
Apparently they had some major issues with David Beaurgaud the composer, and not only will he not return to compose, but insomniac isnt allowed to use any of his music in newer Ratchet titles.
This sounds like what would happen if Metropolis was introduced in Ratchet and Clank 3. Not just a remake, but a remix. It didn't feel like an upgrade, because it didn't need one. It just needed to fit in. That's how progression is done. Fitting since it uses a lot of espionage motifs. Basically, Bergeaud knows his stuff. He doesn't try something new. He understands what is needed and does it.
I love so much this, the original is a classic, but this reximed version has all the ongoing vibe of the story at that point, you can feel the adrenaline of Metropolis on danger.
All-Stars!! :D And this game brought back SO much of the first game. Veldin, Aridia, Rilgar, Kerwan.. I feel like I'm missing something... (apart from Ratchet's Dogfight, Freeing Your Ship, and Destroying the Cannons :D)
Techno/electronic music made in the early 2000s relies on a sample pack surprisingly often. You can hear a lot of samples that Bergeaud used for the R&C soundtracks in lots of other unexpected places (for example the Patapon 2 theme uses a drumloop that appears both in Metropolis and Umbris). If I could get my hands on this sample pack I would be the happiest composer in the world.

@@WorkInProgressX Same, I was pretty upset that they have changed the name of the city and they have changed the music too which has upset me the most :(
idk i went back to it and i realised it definitely has problems. compared to the first two games the game is much more streamlined and enemy variety is much more limited. a lot of tasks and worlds are hoarde mode, collect sewer crystals or arena battles and while its content it starts to feel like padding or like artificial grind. it has the best gameplay but its just a smaller game and years later we learned that the game was development hell unlike the first 2.
@@thelrproject257 main problem was them having to include a full on functional multiplayer mode to the already large main game in the same timespan it took them to develop going commando.
