"Va pensiero" - aus der Oper "Nabucco" von Guiseppe Verdi

Va, pensiero, sull‘ ali dorate (Flieg, Gedanke, auf goldenen Schwingen),
dieses Lied aus dem dritten Akt der Oper „Nabucco“ von Guiseppe Verdi wird auch als „Gefangenenchor“ oder „Freiheitschor“ bezeichnet.
Er gilt als der berühmteste aller Verdi-Chöre.
Die Hebräer, die in Babylonien gefangen gehalten werden, beklagen den Verlust der Heimat: „Ach die Heimat, nach der wir uns sehnen,…“, verbunden mit der Bitte „…schenk uns Hoffnung, zu tragen dies Leid!“

this song from the third act of the opera "Nabucco" by Guiseppe Verdi is also known as the "Prisoners' Chorus" or "Freedom Chorus".
It is considered the most famous of all Verdi's choruses.
The Hebrews, imprisoned in Babylonia, lament the loss of their homeland: "Ah the homeland we long for...", combined with the plea "...give us hope to bear this sorrow!"
