  • What are 5 features to look for in a tripod? Does the Sirui W-2204 check all the boxes? We just spent a month playing around with the new Sirui W 2204 waterproof, carbon fiber tripod and loved every minute of it. This is one of the best tripods for 2018 that we have seen and can't recommend it any higher and if you need a new tripod this is the one to get!

I made the mistake of purchasing a LEO Photo tripod before purchasing this exact tripod, but little did I know just how small and inadequate it would be. See I have a Nikon 400mm f2.8 VR lens that I use in combination with either a D4s body or D7200 depending on how much "reach" I need. So after returning the LeoPhoto tripod, I took your's and Ken Wheeler's advice and bought this Sirui W-2204 tripod. I usually use a gimbal head by Wimberley for the 400mm lens combo, however I decided to also purchase the K-30 ball head featured here as well and I love it. Sometimes the Gimbal Head is just too heavy to carry with all of my other gear, so I leave it at home and this ball head works great, which is surprising with that much weight attached! Sure you can find much better tripod's from Really Right Stuff, but you're going to pay a cool $1200 or so to get the right legs. I thought a lot about doing just that, because my friend has some RRS legs and he swears by them. I will say though after about 6 months of owning these legs, I have no regrets! If you have a 600mm or 800mm lens than buy the better, more expensive RRS legs, but if you have a 300mm, 400mm or 500mm lens these will work just fine. You can also add a weighted bag to the center column for more support, which is what I chose to do!

    Great video guys.
I have had a Sirui monopod for a while and really love it. Recently I bought a Sirui T-2205X tripod and it is awesome as well! (I paired it with an Oben ballhead, Wimberley Sidekick, D500 and Tamron 150-600).
I would rate the tripod 5 chopsticks like you guys did, but my tastebuds are a little different... so instead I will give it 5 large chili spoons.
Maybe No. 6 on your list could be "Get Low". With the changeable center column to a very short one, the legs can spread out and get your camera really low to the ground. (Provided of course that you, the person, can still do that too!)

Hien, thanks for doing a review on this. There are not many covering this series on ballheads.

Hey guys, quite an informative video!
    Would this tripod be able to support a 600mm f4 VR2 and a D500?
I would be using a gimball head.

Last leg section looks very slim. Is it possible to load good weight?

How important is compatibility with other tripods matter? Ads for Sirui claim it has a Arca-type clamp and plate. The Sirui safety button system makes it incompatible with Arca Swiss plates as the clamp lacks the slots for the safety pins found on Arca Swiss plates. I had to return an L-20 monopod tilt head because it would not accept the vertical plate on my L bracket. The one I eventually purchased does works like a charm.

I have Surui Et1004 ET-10 ball head & twice while a sigma 18-300lens attached, it has fallen forward & face planted into the hood of the lens. No wind & I always tighten the ball head knob tight when just placing it aside. I have fear when using with 150-600 lens

How low does it go though? Wouldn't that centre column make it pretty hard to shoot subjects close to the ground.

    • @MeAMuse
      @MeAMuse 4 роки тому +1

The center column is comprised of 2 parts. You can have them together for a full center column, or just have the small bit and effectively have no center column (actually it has about a cm or 2). This allows it to go all the way down.

Sadly, Sirui disqualifies itself because they are unable to give you their technical data. I expect a tripod to specify how high it is without pulling the center column. This makes a tripod unstable and should only be used in an emergency. Siriu is not able to call the complete measurements on any tripod, too bad. Indictment. They have great ball heads but no specifications, no purchase.

Sorry to hear that, we have found all of those specs on their website, maybe it is a recent update their site? Thanks for watching! www.sirui.com/sirui-photography-tripods.html

Who is B & H? No, joking aside. I already know what B & H is, but I'm from Germany. Thus, this dealer is not relevant. When I'm interested in a product, I visit the manufacturer's website. Does not give me the info about his product that I need, he is out. Neither the Germans (sirui.de) nor the English website (sirui.co.uk) deliver meaningful values until today. The sirui.com can not be called and is another argument with which disqualified the manufacturer

We have no control on a companies website, it looks as if they have a phone number in Germany as well as we are not sure what info you are looking for: www.sirui.eu/en/produkte/dreibeinstative/r-serie/
