Curious...have you considered selling your merch in the roadside stand and markets? Coffee mugs, shirts, hats, magnets, postcards, etc.? Could help with branding reinforcement as well as additional in person sales revenue.
You should be really proud of yourselves. You've gone from -$38K to -$5K your very first year of flower farming. Some of your expenses won't happen again for many years (some of the equipment, some of the perennial plants, some of the seeds, some of the ULINE expenses, etc.). May I suggest that you aim to make 12 ornaments every week so that they are made ahead of time. You can always put them in your store and your farm stand (toward the holidays). You guys are doing great! The more perennials you can plant (such as liatris), the less you'll be spending and still will be making money (but you know this). Love watching your videos!
Thank you for keeping this honest. I appreciate the recap, less the unicorns and rainbow dreams. There is no magic wand that will help make a honest buck in under five years. Onward and upward! Year five is where it $tart$. Looking forward to your business profiting, you guys certainly have put in the time.
I have to admit I find your year end financial videos fascinating and exciting. I never plan on having a flower farm or a UA-cam channel, but I just love seeing the progress you both are making, and get the chance cheer you on in your endeavors. You both work so hard and produce such beautiful bouquets and you add joy to many lives. You deserve every bit of success that you achieve and then some. I'm sure you will hit your goals in 2023 to be profitable.👏👏👏 Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Makes sense that Spring is big, everyone is hungry for blooms, and without covered space cannot grow like you can. I have seen that flowers sell out fast at our farmers market. I think you are wise in what you have done. I hope you keep working on the "getting things done earlier " category, so you both get enough sleep and stay healthy. So happy the roadside stand is doing well, and hopefully will grow. Wishing you all the success next year!
Well done. Minus $5k or not I feel like you guys have totally nailed this. 2023 is going to be big, I feel it. And I’ll come along for the ride! Looking forward to your UA-cam $$ video
I knew a florist who taught me alot about the flower industry. They made their big money Feb through June with valentine day Mother’s Day. Memorial Day. School dances. And weddings anniversaries. The rest is sporadic weddings funerals and other get togethers if I remember correctly. Get to know an experienced florist in your area who can give you tips. It will put you way ahead on what to grow and where to sell and your wholesale connection
I enjoy your positivity and outlook for 2023. Wishing you nothing but the best in year 5. Can't wait to see your journey & the perennials should start giving back this season.
I am so excited to follow along this upcoming season. My goal is to visit Kelowna farmers market once and buy flowers from you guys. Stay blessed. God is good.
I'm so proud at how far you both have come with your business. You are learning so much and helping others. This will be my second year at my local farmers market. We are the opposite of you. We found flowers didn't sell much, and our veggies were the best sellers. I wish you all the best for this coming year. Happy planting!!
You could definitly add some profit by offering some vases for those flowers that you can pick up cheap at local thrift shops or garage sales ! My grandmother was a florist and this gave her a lot of money over just cut flowers. Super cheap to have at your flower stand as an "add on" as long as they are in perfect condition they can sell at retail prices for a great profit. Just look online at some of the resale shops, hand made pottery vases for instance or crystal vases ,a vintage tea pot ....The farmers market for things like mothers day were a bunch of flowers will feel like a finished gift in a cool vintage tea pot of beautiful vase can easily double what you sell the arrangment for as a cost of $5 to you. good luck and thanks for sharing !
I hope that getting some help on the farm next year allows you both to reach your goals, and stay healthy and motivated. Anyone would have been burnt out by the end of summer with all the hard work you've put in. Your beautiful farm is very inspiring and I'm grateful that you share it with us.
Congratulations! You guys really did amazing this year. The road side stand absolutely killed it! I remember the discussions last year about how profitable could it be, and you have clearly shown that it can be, and even more so in the future. Yes, it's technically yr 4, but 100% flowers is yr 1, I have no doubts that next year you will crush it. For me the biggest takeaway from the video was pinpointing the tipping point for having an employee. You gave it gangbusters, and the burnout was real. Which obviously capped sales (our season is so short as Canadians). Seems like having some extra help, in order to be able to process (& then sell) more product, will be a really important question for 2023. Again: Bravo! you should be proud.
It's great how you guys know exactly all the elements of flower farming. So smart how you have a grip on the finances. Videos like this really help people who are flower farming or who want to start. You show the ups and downs, the successes and the things that didn't go so well. Very real-world help. Wish you a great year in 2023!
Good for you!! I'm so sick and tired of hearing of stories of Made $100k , $200k in first year. I own and run a permaculture based family farm. You are on track for the first 5-7 years of operation. Some of the cost item you have will carry forward such as the wood for the raised bed, shade cloth etc. I consider those items as capital expense (capex for short). So things are not as gloomy as it looks. just be very careful about being bigger to make more is better. It is NOT always the case. In fact, there is an optimal size for a family oriented business. Can the additional help (worker) grow enough products to cover the helpers wage, insurance and your overhead to manage and have enough extra for the "grief" you will have. Very good and informative video for those who wish to start farming/ranching.
That's why labour is so important to have available so you don't get burnt out. It's such a small percentage of your expenses, could be upped to increase your gross multifold.
Congratulations on your first year of full-time flower farming! 🥳 You guys did amazing and always work so hard. You were so close to your goal of breaking even! I hope you have a prosperous year ahead and are able to exceed your goal of $100,000. Your videos are always informative and inspirational. Blessings to you both ❤
Congrats guys! We are going into our seventh season market gardening. I wanted to do flowers in addition to our veggies a few years back but covid hit and everything was so unpredictable so we didn't. In the end I'm glad we didnt because i don't think people in our area have the disposable income like they do in Kelowna to justify learning and growing flowers. But kudos to you guys for killing it and hope you have a 100,000 year in 2023! ❤️
Fantastic!!!! You were so close to zero! With all of the Infrastructure you have invested in, it’s easy to see that next year will be your year! As a newly monetized youtuber, I’m really looking forward to your UA-cam income video!
I'm so happy to hear you're all doing so well. I stopped watching because I was always "team veggie" 😄 but it's lovely to see you growing. I wish you all the best x
Thank you for this video!!! My husband and I plan to run our own business in the next few years. I keep getting hung up on my perfectionist/ black & white thinking. Hearing the process and seeing your positive, "can do" attitude is so encouraging. Even better, it's clear that you LOVE what you're doing even without huge profits. That, alone, is my dream and I'm excited to see what you accomplish in 2023!! 😁
I get so excited when I see you post this and the UA-cam profit video. Congratulations on the progress this year! I can only imagine how good it feels to get all that infrastructure in place. Keep crushing it!
I love that y'all are so transparent about both the ups and downs. So many people make it all sunshine or they're all negative. You guys are just factual and that makes the info you share so valuable.
Have watched you guys for years, we have a 7 acre piece of land and we only make about half of it “look civilized”…gardens etc…and we know how much it cost just to landscape and maintain! Equipment, plants, dirt mulch, tools and more tools. You guys are heading for huge success, profit speaking 🌸🌸happy 2023!!
You guys are my idols. My husband, 4 kids, and I are about to make a move back home to northern California. After we make the move we are going to begin our flower farming journey, and you two are the ones I look up to for everything! I have been studying all that you share and I hope to do as well as y'all have. Thank you for being my teachers. I wish you and your children a year of health and wealth in 2023. 🖤🌻
Yall are just going to keep getting better and better. 4th year and 1st year flowers but look at those freaking flowers. More like 20th year flowers or something they're gorgeous amd lots of options!!!
I recommend you both all the time, not just as a channel to watch anyway, but because I think if someone want to really get into this, you give it a great 'tell it as it is' breakdown, and not a whoo, look at what we earned, it's this easy! Disney show-and-tell version. I also think last year's figures would have been better if Serina hadn't had the health issues to contend with. Burnout, and being tired are one thing, but on top of dealing with health problems... I'm so excited for you for this year. No pressure, or anything lol
I love that you post these videos even though it could lead to people being negative. I don't have a flower farm but I'm wanting to turn my love of gardening and growing things into a business. I'm glad you're showing your processes and where you're spending your money. It gives me a rough idea on things I should be looking into now and figuring out how to budget for.
Key takeaway, plan and execute!!! Hire that extra labor when you need it. Bump up spring and strengthen summer and fall and Christmas. Don't forget those sunflower succession plantings!! GO FOR IT in 2023!!!
Wow! I was sitting at the edge of my seat watching the numbers grow (both income and spending ;-)). I love these videos every year. I want to start a farming business myself and you are my much needed reality check. So happy for your growth this year and such a healthy way to see things! Thank you again for your transparency! It is highly appriciated!
Ian (in that shot with the short hair) looked so good I had to do a double take. Wasn’t sure that was him lol. Thanks for the update and cost breakdown. Always nice to see you post a new video!
I appreciate the honest look at reality! We started with chickens last year and there was a lot of up front costs that people don't realize. We didn't even realize everything that we needed, plus a little trial and error for our specific set up. You guys are doing great!
I have been looking forward to this video since the end of the season. I have been really excited to see how things will pan out in comparison to last year. I’ve been really enjoying watching how your farm has grown and changed over time. It’s very interesting to see how well growing flowers is going, thanks for creating videos like these. 🙂
I think you guys did amazing! You worked so hard even through some medical issues! The gap that you closed by changing the business model made a massive difference! Great job! I can’t wait to see what you do in 2023!
A sign 300 meters up the road (both directions) from your stand will bring you sales that will surprise you. If you already have them , great. If not, you will double , triple, quadruple your gate sales. 2 years from now you won't need farmer's markets. SIGNS SIGNS SIGNS !!!!
Honestly you are going be very successful, more and more people stop shopping in the grocery stores and going back to the true grocery store. I can't wait to visit 😍
If you amortize many of your expenses, you actually came out positive. For instance, shadecloth will likely last at least 3 years, so count 1/3 of that for next 3 years. Also, your Uline spend bought 2yrs worth supplies, so count 1/2 this year and 1/2 next year.
You could maybe add back your seedling sale for veggies as you settle in to your flower business and expand on that, because you did so well with veggies seedlings. It was very interesting to see how the back-end side of a growing business works. Thanks for sharing in so much detail.
I have been following you guys since 2-3 years. Your videos are so interesting. I am so so excited to see you grow. Sending you all the love and prayers. ♥️
Congrats on a good 2022! 🎉 2023 will be an amazing year for you guys because you have worked so hard for the last 4 years. Growing a business takes time and lots of investing. Trial and error, research and development along with grit and determination is your recipe for success and is paying off. Can't wait to see how well you guys do this year. Can't wait to see all your beautiful flowers. Love and best wishes from Massachusetts! 💕
I'm sure you've already tossed this idea around. You could host a Dry Flower Arrangement event in winter. Win win! Get rid of some of the dried flowers and make some money. Congratulations on the record year!
I can't wait to see the version of this video for 2023! Alot of the expenses you had this year were things you will use again this year but not have to purchase again. And switching from veggies to flowers is a big switch!
Hey, still an improvement over last year's numbers. This year you were only negative by $5,000! That's a savings of $33,000! Be proud of the fact you saved that much this year!! It'll be even better next year as you get more efficient, have more sales, and spend less. I wish you luck over this next year!
You have to have a holiday sometime. how about speeches to gardeners, there are home gardeners and new start ups who need your advice. Bridal flowers. I am sure you may have already done this. Your bouquets are lovely.
Best of luck in 2023! I live in Michigan, but if we were closer would divulge in your stunning bouquets. My sister & I frequent our farmers market from May through October. There are a few florists who sell & is my first stop.haha..If we purchase they are gracious enough to put our buys off to the side so we may enjoy the other vendors. The Flower vendors are a mix of fresh cut bouquets, others have a mix of annual, perennials & fresh cut. I wish you success in this year and a positive at the end of 2023. Thank you for the recap. Farming , no matter the harvest or crop is exhausting. Bless your family.
So much of the expenses are long term investments. Even the $50 purchases. Yes eventually they will need to be repaired or replaced but with proper use, care and storage, they could last a long time. The cooler also was a great investment that allowed a larger crop harvest on a weekly basis. The seedling trays are much better than the flimsy ones and will last years. A small purchase of these every year will be great.
I look forward to this video from you guys every year. Thank you for being so honest and breaking everything down so clearly. I have just started a UA-cam channel about growing flowers on my tiny allotment in Japan which I hope one day will lead to a bigger flower farming life for me and my family and watching you guys and your hard graft everyday really brings home the reality of what can be achieved. $100,000 next year, Gambarre.
You work so hard. You produce a stunning product. You deserve so much success. If I could buy your bouquets to help support your business I would. But it's a bit hard from Australia. Wishing you all the best for 2023.
If you get a chance to check out the book called "profit first" I think you both would really love it. And congratulations on your big year and getting clear on your product line ❤️🙌
Congratulations for the first year as a flower farm!! Hoping for more sucessful blooms in 2023. Its a big jump -3k - -5k which us so great but those cost are one time big spent that wont be on your book next year.
It’s wonderful to have comments on great to see your subs over 100k next year y’all will double if you keep the engine running with regular postings looks like y’all health is on the upswing also ❤
Can’t wait to see your beautiful smile more. Can’t wait to see your gardens growing. Can’t wait to play in the garden. More veggies gardenbeing added. Love your family from Dartmouth Nova Scotia ❤️❤️🎁🎁🇨🇦🇨🇦

Yes! The ornaments could make their debut in October when people start holiday shopping

Congratulations!! You were also sick for about a month and that slowed progress down. Let's be well in 2023. Ian ya gotta "make the bouquets".😃
You guys are definitely couple goal.

I love your videos because you treat flower farming as a real business not just a very expensive hobby.
One step closer to an incredible year 5!! Can’t wait to see all the flowers in 2023 😊

Sounds like a good year! Changed to flowers, got closer to profitable and looking forward to the coming year. You rocked it!
Thank you for this video!!! My husband and I plan to run our own business in the next few years. I keep getting hung up on my perfectionist/ black & white thinking. We’ve all been pulling for you guys all year! Thanks for sharing! It always brightens my day to see a new video from you.
I love these updates! It’s amazing to see how far you’ve come and I appreciate the transparency! 😊
🖤🌻
Good luck to you & your husband!! Wish you much success!! 😊
I really appreciate you being open and honest about the numbers and keeping it real with those of us who are curious about the business.
Wishing you a FANTASTIC 2023!!!
I am glad you got the tulips planted I was getting worried 🌷⚘🌷⚘
Key takeaway, plan and execute!!! Hire that extra labor when you need it. Bump up spring and strengthen summer and fall and Christmas. Don't forget those sunflower succession plantings!! GO FOR IT in 2023!!!

Congrats on the great year. You all rock. Can’t wait for next years totals!
Y’all! That is AMAZING! I’m seriously blown away by how much the business has grown this year, and I can’t wait to see what you do next year!
Congratulations guys - I'd call that a great success! On and upwards!
My favorite video of each year.
I pray y'all have even greater success this year. As hard as you work you deserve it. God bless
What an amazing year! I was curious how this video would go, after the switch to only flowers. Way to go!!
Honestly you are going be very successful, more and more people stop shopping in the grocery stores and going back to the true grocery store.

Sarina you are looking good, happy growing 2023.
I have been following you guys since 2-3 years. Your videos are so interesting. I am so so excited to see you grow. Sending you all the love and prayers. ♥️
I came for your old soil block video. Now Im watching this. Hope it keeps working out for you. 👍
Congrats on your first year full time flower farming. You guys did amazing and will do great next year. Great job
Congrats on a good 2022! 🎉 2023 will be an amazing year for you guys because you have worked so hard for the last 4 years. Growing a business takes time and lots of investing. I can't wait to see the version of this video for 2023! Alot of the expenses you had this year were things you will use again this year but not have to purchase again. And switching from veggies to flowers is a big switch!
You guys deserve all the success!!! Farming is not easy work!!! Love watching your business grow 🌸🌸
Look forward to this video every year 😁
Hey, still an improvement over last year's numbers. This year you were only negative by $5,000! That's a savings of $33,000! Be proud of the fact you saved that much this year!! It'll be even better next year as you get more efficient, have more sales, and spend less. I wish you luck over this next year!
You guys are amazing!! Your openness and experiences are truly priceless!!💚
You guys are awesome. Looking forward to seeing your profitability in 2023!!!
Thanks for keeping it real.
Well done ,only -£5.000 you will definitely make money this year. Can’t wait to see it happen.
Y’all did a great job and I’m excited for your 2023 recap!
You have definitely been successful and it will only get better. Awesome job!
Thanks for sharing, this is very grounding information for aspiring flower farmers. Looking forward to your next video
It costs money to make money and you've done a great job building your business. You also have UA-cam which allows you to share what you've learned.
