Thanks for the video. Had been wrestling with the Stihl AutoCut C 6-2 and getting frustrated with it so replaced it with Durocut 5-2 and find it does work better. Your clever little invention looks good.
Just bought the durocut head for my FS38. Never going back to the one that came with the weed trimmer again. This video helped me to install the head as the instructions that came with the head did not show how to get the head onto the machine.
Thank you so much for a very clear to understand video. I have an FS50C with an Autocut C 6-2 head and the head is useless, it simply does not feed out when bumped. What makes matters worse is that the line disappears inside of the head so that the head has to be taken aapart each time to pull the line through. I'll try the durocut based on your video.
Enjoyed. Most stihl dealers act like I'm crazy telling me they never heard of such a product. Well I was born in Germany and use stihl products forever. They used to have a metal head with snap snap and NO BUMP AND HOPES. Awesome product. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much you answered my questions. Bought my FS 56RC trimmer the easy starting. Then I bought the grass blade which is great for Johnson and over thick weeds but crap for fine grasses. I installed my Autocut and it came with rotted line, wasn't wound correctly and then the line kept breaking off and getting tangled. Feeling good about the DuroCut head. Hunting for a cigar cutter now ;o))
I've found if you push the release in and manually pull on the line in comes out of the head easily. No need for buying different kinds of head and going through all the additional efforts.
@@beartechdeck @logjam. I found this works maybe the first few times but after a short while the line still gets stuck. Also the time wasted doing this exercise...takes longer than the actual weed trimming :)
It's a shame Stihl wouldn't hire an intelligent guy like this to actually work for the company. Very matter of fact and clear presentation. I loved how he tossed aside the garbage Autocut. I had to go through 2 Autocuts to finally learn that it was not a reliable, well-executed design. The cigar-trimmer application is ingenious! :)
+Patrick Glynn Could not agree with you more...................95% of the time I am in a Stihl retail and service location, the company rep. NEVER tries to explain or show me the basic critical techniques needed to operate many of the Stihl products I have purchased. I have purchased over 7 different Stihl products and most of the time, the reps want my money and to get out the store ASAP. Hats off to Garner in his simplified approach.
I have a better head and trimmer now that works great but I cut the line that pops out when I run out into strips for the durocut so less line goes to waste.
Thanks for video! Have problem with height of cord - it is about 5 cm because of that button and grass still high after mowing. Will try durocut to fix that problem :)
Thanks for the video. Finally a good solution for that crab AutoCut thing, i go buy straight away this Durocut, it looks awsome , and i can still use my bunch of cables that i bought to work with that crab AutoCut and it doesn't work ! Thanks great explanation on the video. Greetz
do you have to stop your weedeater each and everytime you need to load more string in--that kind of seems like a pain to me compared to just tap and go while the machine is running--thankyou tim
Tim Davey , I agree the tap and go Is nice but when it jams I want to hulk out lol. I'll post a video of actually running it and changing the line out.
What is the max diameter trimming cord that this head will take? With that green cord, does it last very long, or are you constantly having to reload it?
About the green line, this particular product is a generic and does ok with grass and holds up with the occasional fence bump. There are many different lines out there. I will do a review of them in the spring.
@@cypinate Hello Jscott. thank you very much for the tips. In the vid you say something like "80 thousands" or "90 thousands". Is this the same as 0.08 inch or 0.09 inch gauges? Have you tried different line profiles (round, square or twisted) and find one fits/locks better?
@@sound1345 hello, thanks for watching the video. Yea 80 thousand is .08, Habit for to say thousands and tenths, I work in manufacturing and that's our language haha. Depending on the model of Duracut this 5-2 can go from .08 to around .110 I've also used .125 but careful they can get stuck. It helps to use a little WD40 in the line mechanism once a year to keep lubed. As far as line profiles, I've tried all kinds, round, square, etc.. I'll post a video on my tests. But in general the best band for the buck is simple cheap line, just cut a bunch up and have them Handy. More coming soon, thanks.
Mr-Stratton PlaystionLp's you will need there Duro Cut 20-2 see the list on the PDF m.stihlusa.com/products/trimmers-and-brushcutters/trimmer-heads-and-blades/durocut/ under support section

Thank you for making the video, i was so fed up with that horrible line feeder......don't even know why they sell them anymore.

That’s how I’ve always done it.

Patrick Glynn Thanks for comment, glad you liked it! I may re-engineer the Autocut into a usable product, stay tuned.

Kick butt video. straight to the point. Thanks
Thanks for this demo. It was exactly what I needed, and very well done.

Thanks! Absolutely fantastic video! Where did you get those fancy end pieces to put on your cutter? They're more than a washer . . .
you are a genius--thank you so much for the video--it helped me greatly
Great cutter - The Durocut's the best head.
A really good helpful and practical video , thanks!

I just made that cutter today.
Super, thanks for video
Very helpful.
I don't see the silver ring on my FS 40C like the silver ring on yours. Does the silver ring come with the durocut?
The silver ring is actually a sticker. after a few weeks of use it has now fallen off.
Can you tell me the thickness in mm of the trimmer wire you can use please
Approximately 1.6mm to 2.4mm line can be used on this unit.
@@cypinate many thanks as i want too use the thickest line possible ,

The green line in the video is .08", the head will use .08" to .150" round, square, very universal.
+Jscott Gamer I was hoping that it would hold .155.

*Thank you~!*
Buy ya a spool of Rotary Vortex and quit playing around with that toy string. You won’t regret it.
