  • A special bank holiday is being celebrated on the Island of Sodor. Bertie the Bus and the railway engines are all being kept very busy taking vistors to and from their destinations, with many of them traveling on Duck's Branch Line called The Little Western. One day, Duck is waiting at Tidmouth station to depart with his next train when he spots a large and unfriendly looking double decker bus. The bus growls as he gazes at the happy passengers boarding Duck's train and states he wouldn't have brought them had he known they would be traveling by train and he bluntly tells Duck that one day, the railways will be torn up and replaced by roads. Duck is shocked by the bus' behavior and states that Bertie would never made such claims. The bus is dismissive of Bertie's opinion, declaring him "too small in size to be of any use." Duck takes no further notice and steams away with his coaches
At Haultraugh, Duck meets Oliver and tells him all about the bus. Oliver explains that he calls the bus "Bulgy" and simply laughs off his threats. But that afternoon, when the two engines meet again, Oliver is much more serious since he found out that another equally rude bus has arrived and is taking Bulgy's passengers home so that Bulgy himself can take away the passengers of the two Great Western engines to the big station. Duck insists that the route is quicker by rail, but Oliver explains that Bulgy apparently knows a shortcut. That evening, Duck prepares for the homeward rush, but is surprised to discover he has less passengers. Then, Oliver spots them in Bulgy, who has the rest of them and a sign on his side claiming he is a "Railway Bus". Bulgy cheers triumphantly and leaves and Duck quickly follows after him.
Sometime later, Duck is flagged down at a bridge where the line crosses a narrow road and there, he discovers that Bulgy has firmly wedged himself under the bridge. The passengers explain that Bulgy tricked them, as he wanted them to think railways were no good; he claimed to be a "Railway Bus", but would not accept their return tickets. Duck's crew examines the damage on the bridge and agree that helping the passengers outweighs the risk of the unsafe structure and soon, Duck crosses it carefully. Bulgy begs him to stop as bricks and dust fall from the bridge, fearing it might collapse on top of him. Fortunately, the bridge does not collapse, but Duck states that it would have served him right for telling lies if it had.
Duck makes good time and delivers the passengers to the station to catch their trains home. The bridge is eventually mended, but Bulgy's ways remain unchanged until he is eventually taken out of service. He is a henhouse in the field beside the bridge now and his lies can do no harm as the resident hens don't listen to him anyway.
