I was very concerned about the speaker trim adapters and where you bought them. I love how you put links in the description! Great video overall. Thank you, I will be upgrading the stock speakers in the front doors of my 2018 Civic Si.
It’s worth rotating the drive units in the adapters before cutting any metal. My Focals wouldn’t fit, as the terminals were snagging in the opening, but they fit just fine upside down with the terminals at the top.
Great video on upgrading Honda Civic speakers! Your explanations are spot-on. I have one question though: at 15:25, where do the wires plug in? Also, could you share how the crossover is receiving its input during the setup? Thanks a bunch!
You should use stinger speed wire for a aftermarket amplifier installation. The factory stereo wires will definitely hold the current when used with the metra speaker adapters. It keeps everything clean. Also those baffles are junk. Stinger fast rings work way better. Useless time of the wiring.
Used SHCA OFC 9 core wire. Looks identical to the stinger speed wires you mentioned. That's routed from the head unit to an LC7i. RCA from LC7i to amps. Speaker wires from amp to door specific speaker crossover. Made sure I didn't have spliced wires all over the car. The baffle seems to be doing a great job. I'm no expert but it's keeping the weather out. Might look into the stinger rings, but everything sounds loud and clear as is.
Hello, really nice job except the trimming of the metal parts of the door itself, from my opinion. Shouldn't you apply some metal treatment or at least paint so no rust risk? If you can tell us please, after you finished everything, did you encounter any rattles/squeeks in the doors, that were not present before. Thank you for your video, nice work 👌
Your videos are great!! Did you have any issues arise from tucking the crossover into that pouch in the door? Just got a 2021 EX hatchback and I need to swap out the speakers. Thanks!!
John your like the Mr Rogers of upgrades. just chill AF lol im confused though. I'm upgrading my speakers with a set of components. They come with a passive crossover. I know the passive crossover has the tweeter connected to it, the midrange connected to it and finally the input from the head unit im assuming? what color wires are those or how do I find them. I not seeing that in your video or im just a dumb dumb. I have a civc hatchback 2020. Thanks!
It doesn’t matter what it looks like brother, you used the deadening. Doing the entire inside of the door would be better. Close off the whole with the white plastic, you can cover it with deadened, or cut a piece of thin aluminum rivet it in place, the deaden over that. It was drastically improve your mid bass response. Be careful with the crossover, it’s susceptible to moisture in the door card area……. To secure it get some Velcro. There’s a lot more that can be done as well, but I’ll be typing all day……
They deaden the sound and ruin the midrange. If you use them, cut open the back and use them as a water deflector so any rain water coming through the window trim doesn't fall onto the back of the cone.
Quick question: is there a way to upgrade ONLY the front speakers to some better ones and still use the factory honda 7'' head unit with no amp and still get better sound? Not looking for AMAZING sounds, just BETTER sound so my music no longer sound like junk in my car.
Yes. I'm used to it so it looks easy. You'll need the trim tools to get into tiny crack here and there. They also come in handy while working on other projects.
I actually went the other way and put a good amp on the factory speakers first, then re-equalized the system with a JL Audio TwK-88. It was a major improvement. However, the stock speakers still have their limitations. I have begun replacing them. I have started with the CENTER channel, and put an Infinity Kappa Perfect 300m 3.5" in there and wow, what a difference. The front components are going to be JL Audio C5 6.5" with separate silk dome tweeters.
What I ended up doing was getting Honda hack and running the dsp flat script I got from a Honda forum to remove the factory eq settings I then ran viper4android to use as my eq Sound is definitely improved doing so and bass sounds richer and deeper even on the stock speakers but even better once all speakers are upgraded and a sub is thrown in
@@Jake-jf9jp yeah. Ran the wires from the headunit to the rear. Any standard radio will fit. Just need the brackets. I think the ones from the higher model civics will work too but you might need to mod the harness.
hi finally got to watch the video that really matters, good work, please can you tell me the exact mounting depth of your speakers because i have steg st650c for my install and when i run the window glass down, the glass hits the speaker magnet and i might end up breaking the glass so my project is on a halt!
According to the specs by CT Sounds my Mounting depth == 2.87" / 73mm. Then subtract my speaker mounting depth by maybe 1/2" due to my speaker brackets. I was lucky enough my windows didn't hit. That was one thing I forgot to show in the video.
@@johnsneverendinglistofrand1377 thats so strange, my stegs are 73mm also and even using them with a spacer they hit the window when down, im worried :( anyhow thanks for the timely and gentle reply.
next time you want to run wires through a rubber boot spray them down with the highest % rubbing alcohol you're willing to pay for and if you twirl it through it'll stick and get stuck less.
Are you referring to the one I used or just in general? In general and from experience I'd say you could fit just about any tweeter except a super tweeter. The workspace behind the tweeter trim is actually very deep.
fkn great thanks man you forgot to post the most inportant part the fkn 6.5 trim adaptor 🤦♂️ i took my door interior off for no reason you didnt mention the aftermarket speaker adaptor now i feel like shit thanks you should mention the adapters i thought we can use the originals smh ...

Best tutorial for this on UA-cam. Thank you good sir.

Ty sir for posting….was about to give up on running new speaker wire into front doors!!! Appreciate the guidance 👍🤜💪
So were you happy with the sound? Was it a big improvement? I thinking about replacing mine soon and I'm just curious if it's worth the effort
Great video on upgrading Honda Civic speakers! Your explanations are spot-on. I have one question though: at 15:25, where do the wires plug in? Also, could you share how the crossover is receiving its input during the setup? Thanks a bunch!
The wire I passed through comes from the Amplifier to the passive crossover. The passive crossover has its connections to the mids and highs.
Nive job, did u have a factory amp, or aftermarket amp?
Aftermarket. I made a series of videos on the installation.

I'm using the amplifier to power my speakers. Don't think it'll sound good off of the radio. You'll see I ran my own wires to the back of the car.
Excellent video, I subscribed!
Sehr gut , danke für die Information, mach ich auch in meinem Civic .
Hey, nice video. I thought Honda has put 6 inch speakers but you installed 6.5 inch speaker. Did you put bigger speaker or that’s the OME size?
Thanks!
I went with 6.5" because the adaptors allowed for them to fit.

I really like your steering wheel. Can you park straight to take out the key?
LoL. Sure can do.
Hi, i'm thinking of changing my speakers as well. Is the deadener necessary? Do i really really need to put that in?
Optional.
Does Speaker foam baffle make sounds better? if yes, Does rear speaker need Speaker foam baffle too? Thanks
The main purpose of the baffle is to deaden the sound behind the speaker so the acoustics in the doors don't ruin the acoustic in the car.

Most coaxial aftermarket speakers will work with the oem radio. Just don't get the really high end stuff.

Hey John, I was looking at getting speaker baffles when I upgrade my door speakers, why did you have to cut out the bottom half of the baffle?
I actually didn't do it on mine since I wanted to keep the weather out.
If you want it to sound deeper/boomier then yes I'd recommend you do cut it.
Rears and subwoofer next :)))
Rear speaker install will be up in a few minutes.
are the trim tools even needed? Looks like you're doing the trim removal almost all by hand.
Yes. I'm used to it so it looks easy. You'll need the trim tools to get into tiny crack here and there. They also come in handy while working on other projects.
Why do you cut out the baffle?
Some speakers are shallow and some are deep. Mine were deep there was interference so I cut them to make room.
since the stock speakers are complete trash, if i get new speakers do i NEED to connect them to a amp? Or is it optional?

If you are careful then No. Just make sure the car isn't turned on while you're working on anything.
Does this have the 5" non AA/ACP receiver? Didn't you have to take that apart too to get the remote wire?
My LC7i has a remote output. As soon as it detects signals it turns on the amps.

What kind of connecters did you use to connect the tweeter?
I glued them to the removable plastic trim and let it completely dry before attempting to install them.
What do these tweeters even do? I see them in the car put I don't know what they even do or if they even work
