This is a review of Destro's Trans-Atmospheric Rapid Global Assault Troopers - or TARGATs for short. These Iron Grenadiers are a favorite among collectors for their cool colors and re-entry jetpack.

One of my top ten favorites. Him, the Alley Viper, and the Night Vipers with the flip up masks were awesome!

Everything in the artwork of the card of this figure is wrongly used.
1- In the artwork the backpack is used as a jetpack and not as a HALO heat shield device or a glider as it should be.
2- In the artwork the joystick is upside down, it doesnt look natural, actually it looks like a second pistol.
3- In the artwork the pistol is in the right hand, but the cord of the clip of the pistol in the figure has a curve that makes it natural for the left hand.
A pity, becuase for sure these kind of things were very difficult to figure out properly for kids.
    Amazing figure, though!!

Great pick Kevin! I received one for Christmas, he came with a ring, which I still have. I love that figure. Could you review Destros Despoiler, some time?

It's an interesting idea for a character, being dropped from high up and gliding down rather than a standard jetpack, which would've just rehashed the CLAW. I also want to say the colors don't work, but oddly enough they just do. I think the placement of the colors is what makes it work.
Speaking of jetpacks, I saw an oddity at Dollar General last night you might look into- the US Army has some licensed toys out now, though they look like one of the cheaper brand company toys- 5 POA 1:18 soldiers with oversized 1:12 weapons. However, one of the sets had a jetpack with wings that looked to have a back peg compatible with vintage Joes. I didn't pick one up, but someone on any of the Joe collector board may have them and could say for certain if the peg fits. Don't know if you can find them in Canada, unless they're sold up there under a different brand- which is very possible because they look like Chap Mei or similar.

Thanks for the heads up on the Army toys. I've noticed that the recent Sentinel One (Toys R Us Army toys made by Chap Mei) are becoming more exaggerated/fantasy like, so I wouldn't be surprised if that jetpack shows up in this series.

No problem. I will probably look through the line more closely next time I go to DG, they might have more compatible stuff, and I should at least get the company name, if not buy the jetpack myself. I was in a bit of a hurry so I didn't pay much attention/think to examine them closer, but the jetpack had the familiar + shape peg which caught my attention. It looks a bit like a CLAW with wings swept back a bit and 4 missiles. If the peg does fit it'd be a cheap way to give troop builders a unique new vehicle.
I've put a semi-hold on vintage and modern figures for the time being, I've been going for the Kre-O line mainly, though I did luck out and snag a vintage hooded 84 Cobra Commander with decent gold paint for a cheap price. If you might be interested I could send you my thoughts on the Kre-O stuff, both the Joe line and in general.

Thanks, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the current Joe stuff. I don't think the second wave of Kre-O Joe items even made it to Canada (like the Terror Drome and most of the later bagged figures). The second series of 50th anniversary figures should be coming out soon at Toys R Us. It isn't likely they will show up here in Canada for another month or two (if at all).

I can't really go in-depth in the comments section, tell you what, drop me an email at diosoth@gmail.com and I can just send them that way. Kre-O and anything else regarding current or vintage, though I'll still keep comments that relate to specific videos here on UA-cam.

theory on upside down grenades: aerodynamics on grenade pins while in flight, reduce drag, increase in safety

Did the IG have any vehicle to get him up in the atmosohere?

    • @formbx257
      @formbx257  7 років тому +2

Nope. The only aircraft made for the IG line were the AGP (one-man fighter), Destro's Despoiler (hovercraft) and Dominator (helicopter).

Funny the helmet is completely different on the toy from the image on his file card and front of the card. I keep hearing that the cause of yellowing on toys is due to the oils from your fingers.
