Yea I have had a 2.8 rekon for ~3 months now and the knobs are getting kinda round in spme places. Absolutely love the tire in the rear with a 2.8 DHF up Front
Have you guys ever tried the Minion SS 2.3 on the rear? I'm having trouble now with a 1/2 worn Rekon 2.4 in back, it cannot handle embedded rocks since the center lugs are worn so I'm worried if I do the Minion SS I'll have the same problem due to the thinner center tread. You think the Dissector is a safer bet? Is the Dissector just as fast in back as the Minion SS?

Or you could just run Magic Mary tires and do everything better than any single Maxxis. It seems Maxxis is really good with marketing, because you look at any rider poll and Magic Maries are the clear winner. But people run Maxxis regardless.
I run Maxxis Minion DHF on the front and back of my Diamondback Catch 1... Why go through all the trouble to get the correct frame size and find correct seat height. Then saddle forward or back to get everything balanced then they throw on different spec tires that throws off the traction balance. How’s this work on $350,000 Lamborghini? Great grip tires on the front and slicks on the back!?? Now who wants to race my corvette with matching tires? I’ve ridden a few friends bikes set up like this and it feels like the rear end is going to fall out from under me in corners. Funny thing is they crash all the time and I don’t and they still haven’t figured it out why. I see the rear tires flip out from under them however they just won’t listen.
I just switched from Maxxis to Specialized Butchers....Huge performance difference. I’ve has DHR 2’s, and Assegai. Just threw on the Butchers in 2.8.....and $60 each...my new tires of choice. Just sayin

I'm currently running the stock Maxxis Rekon 29 x 2.4 that came with my Scott Spark 950. But which is the best, grippiest Maxxis tire for traction on loose, rocky trails and soil in the Southern California area? Looking for a 29 x 2.6 upgrade. Also is 2.6 better than 2.4 for loose trails? Will moving up to 2.6 increase grip? Also do I need to change the entire wheel? The manual says Spark can accommodate up to 2.6. Thank you!
Just throwing my two cents in here, from my experience of having a plus size Rekon. It definitely won't roll as well and decrease turning a little bit so it depends on what you're doing. If it's slower areas with climbing rocks etc, my fat Rekon's were great. For a down country rig like you have and looking for more traction on loose Rocky stuff, I think I would just move up the graph and use a 2.4 DHR II. I plan on using that on my SB130 in similar type trails. Have the Assegai now which I love but want to lighten up but keep good traction.
Had the forkaster 29.3 on rear and front. In sandy conditions, narrow curves, roots and rocks included, sometimes wet this didn't cut it for me, the front tire kept slipping. That's why I bought the dhf for the front now, too. Rolling resistance is of course still an issue and it's of course not just trails I ride. So I hope this setup will be a step up for my needs.
You just dropped exact video what I wanted to watch right now lol. My current Ardent works well on my 29er Hardtail, but looking for something new to try difference, and wanted to pick the one from MAXXIS. Sounds like Aggressor is nicer according to this video but worrying about weight, lighter is better for me because of our local trail layout... But I will try it!
What a great video!. Especially like the bit about knob spacing and height. The only thing (my $.02) I can add... much of the grip comes from the sharp, square edge of the knobs. If the edges of the knobs are worn smooth, available grip goes down. I found out the hard way: road miles on mountain bike tire... not a good thing. Cheers
I wondered about this, changing tires that didn't look "worn out" but had rounded know edges always seemed to help, thought maybe it was my imagination.
On my trail bike I run DHR II up front and I just put on a 2.3 Minion SS in the rear. Was worried it wouldn't grip but has done everything and was faster at the bike park. Downhill bike has HRII's.
Having various types of trails in NZ is a blessing and a curse. Always fun and different trails but never really the right tire. I'm running high roller 2s but will probably upgrade to assegais

@@dutchdude123 I recently had my wheels rebuilt with i29 WTB's and switched to DHF front and Aggressor Rear. Traction is so sic! Wheels and tires are both heavier but I'm getting faster times because of the added traction both climbing and decending.

What is the idea with tyre choice in terms of front and rear? Is the rear tyre suppose to be the faster rolling and the front tyre the more grippy? My focus is probs trail but damn I love the look of the heavier Disector and DHR and the ASSEGAI which you guys CAN NOT pronounce for shit (its means spear in Zulu btw) Any help would help greatly Great vids !

I got a set up of Agressor 27.5x2.3 in the rear and Assegai 27.5x2.5 in front in my 2015 Kona Operator DH bike wich is a 26" bike (Great transformation there), I just love the grip in Assegai, and the fast rolling for the Agressor. @@dutchdude123 I recently had my wheels rebuilt with i29 WTB's and switched to DHF front and Aggressor Rear. Traction is so sic! Wheels and tires are both heavier but I'm getting faster times because of the added traction both climbing and decending.
@@jamest2660 I switched my 29x2.6 team issue front and 2.4 back for this maxxis combo cause i thought it was too heavy for Dutch trails…. The maxxis is lighter and got me 10 minutes of my track record of 20km including crash…. But I prefer grip instead of Xc speed and crashes :)
Dude! You're fuckin hilarious 😂😂😂! Especially when the GOAT , Ronnie Coleman, lifts 200 lbs dumble ( each hand) and goes. ... Yeaaaah buddy! Light weight! Lmfao 😂😂😂, light weight my ass .. hahahahahaha 😂😂😂
Light weight!
@@WorldwideCyclery hahahahahaha lmfao 😂😂
Skip to what you want for when that money is burning a hole in your current setup...
Dhf front / aggressor rear
For which situation? Trail?
I still want that WC hat. Put them for sale!!
Your videos rock!! I run Maxxis DHF (front) and DHR II/Ikon (rear)
What is the assegai like in the mud I’m from the uk so often ride in crappy conditions
good, but better choice is a shorty or continental Baron 2.4
Minion DHR 2 front and rear on the DH and the enduro👌 just different casings.
Dhr2 front and rear , much nicer than dhf front but exact same corner knobs . All i might change is a less aggressive rear but im so happy compared to butcher tyres im worried it will be a down grade.
Riding Aggressor front and rear for a while now...i live in Alice springs ,Australia . They do grip very well in the dry
Great video! Thank you.
I'm running a DHF2 in the rear and High Roller2 in the front. This is the set up that I've found that works best for me in the Pacific NorthWest.
Yeeeeaah budyyyyy!! 😂🤣🤣 Light weight!! Yep!!! Eeoooowww
DHR II front and rear
Brother man you really know your tires and 5 stars for another great knowledgeable video tires can get confusing
What is the idea with tyre choice in terms of front and rear? Is the rear tyre suppose to be the faster rolling and the front tyre the more grippy?
I ride in South Africa where trails range loose over hard pack to muddy rooty and loam soil in one damn day. My focus is probs trail but damn I love the look of the heavier Disector and DHR and the ASSEGAI which you guys CAN NOT pronounce for shit (its means spear in Zulu btw)
Any help would help greatly
Great vids !
Thumbs up for ""Lightweight" 😆
could you do a video on Bontrager XR series tires? i believe they are under rated. and should be at the top of any list
DHFRII is the best Maxxis tire ever.
*DHR II
and i "hate" dhf, hahahahaha
How well is it in the road does it still have speed
Love my minion dhr2 front and rear. Never slipped and takes big drops no problemo.
Assegai front Dissector rear in Aliso Viejo. So far its great. We'll see once the dirt drys out and everything is dry and dusty. Might switch to a 2.4 DHRII in the rear for summer? If a 2.5 Assegai fit in the rear of my Wreckoning I would put that in the rear.
Like that Ronnie Coleman clip..
Any maxxis tire.......so long as it doesnt wobble when mounted properly!!!!!!!
I got a set up of Agressor 27.5x2.3 in the rear and Assegai 27.5x2.5 in front in my 2015 Kona Operator DH bike wich is a 26" bike (Great transformation there), I just love the grip in Assegai, and the fast rolling for the Agressor. I had also Minion DHF in other bike, really good grip, but the rider kinda s*cks, ho ho, REally nice video, I'm always learning lot of information from you guys, Thanks from the bottom of my hearth's bike!
I run a 26 x 2.4 Ardent (non race) in the front and a 26 x 2.3 High Roller II in the rear on a hardtail. I ride in the SW US so everything is super dusty and rocky but it works for me.
I have the aggressor coming tomorrow ..stock tires were wearing out fast marlin 7 29 they are .3 bigger hope they fit lol
Huge fan of a skip to what you want slide!
QUESTION,………sorry but I appreciate your help, I have 2016 Giant sxc-2 rims…………..the tires are old Icons 27.5 2.20.
How wide can I properly go on these rims?
Can I go 2.30 or 2.40 ?
I just swapped some old Nobby Nics from Schwalbe for Minion DHR 2, Exo + and 3C Max Terra compound. After 3 rides!!!!! the thread is looking like a 2 year old Nobby Nic. No full braking, not cement riding, just standard level trails. There is no way im putting another Maxxis on my bike. Im 75 kg and have a 160mm front /rear bike, so no abuse at all.
