  • Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a musical comedy-drama play and film conceived by non-binary artists John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask. The project deconstructs Aristophanes’ origin of love myth and the “gender binarchy” that limits human potential. This video serves as an analysis of the film’s soundtrack in relation to the narrative and real-world social politics.

I got a different message. The whole movie was about how getting a sex change didn't solve anything. He did it to escape his problem. He got a sex change to escape East Germany and his fiance left him for a man with a big dick and the Berlin wall fell. People were dying to escape Socialism/Communism to freedom in the Capitalist society.
Now that he is a castrated gay man he has to figure out how to live his life - as a woman or a man. His dick is gone, so how does he define himself now? In the end hedwig goes back to being a man at the end.
Anyone who has had to deal with betrayed by those closest to you and heal the trauma can relate to Hedwig.

    Great video, as always.
I only have one question, not directly related to the film. You said something about religion slowly becoming less common, and mentioned the atheist message of the film, without really going too further into it, and in the first example, describing it as a good thing alongside trans people being more widely accepted.
I remember seeing those 3 videos of yours about your personal journey with film and politics, and in it you mentioned how you came from a secular environment but only started to become more progressive as you also started to experiment with spirituality, or something like that, and how Communists or the left ignore questions regarding the supernatural and things beyond our understanding such as god or religion, which you think is important. I don't fully remember, so sorry if I got something wrong.
My question is, are you personally spiritual, but don't belong to any religion? do you think it's okay for Atheism to become more commonplace, do you think there's something that will be missing from a secular world, and do you think certain fields such as psychology don't take spirituality into account when in fact they should?

Good memory. Whether there is a God or not, religion is a corrupt and oppressive power structure. Ideological corruption is not unique to religion, however. It is a tool that appeals to people's social sadomasochism martyr sensibilities, in order to condition the masses into zombies slaving away at the service of capitalism or whatever other system, all with the justification of "God says so."
I made those three vlogs in quarantine. I already knew I was transgender but I had considerable time to reflect on the parts of me that I have been repressing. Christianity led me to leftism, but mainly because I distrusted people's ability to effectively interpret and preach morality as outlined by Christianity. I grew skeptical of the Church and found personal fulfillment by seeking out answers. Eventually, I came to realize that I can be spiritually fulfilled without practicing Christianity or another form of self-imposed dogmatism bound to our understanding of theological truths.
Even in my own agnostic state, I am not convinced theology is behind me completely. What I do know is what is ahead of me, and theology isn't in my immediate view. Yes, countries are better off being atheistic in terms of governance. Religious nationalism is awful for everyone.

What does spirituality and spiritual fulfillment mean to you?

Apropos of cruciform analysis and being saved from the Father, do you not inadvertently disclose an obscene "synthesis" in the Conclusion chapter? The sexual order is itself always already murky and operates by nothing but "transitioning", all flights from sex fundamentally being flights OF sex into proactive perversion (of sex itself, which has an abominable agency) relative to which the sexual order sanitizes an absolutely illusory "good sex"; a "meta" instantiation of the "good sex" whereby the phallus spends itself in its victim and is subsequently justified by the byproduct, by said byproduct becoming sexual, no less. Do you not suppose that, indeed, gender or trans people being as normal as women or children constitutes their very grafting onto the sexual order?
