    Hi Sara, just recently found your channel and realized you hadn't posted in a year. Your videos are very helpful and just what I was searching for, someone who explain the process of teaching the buttons to our pets. I know people would love to see more of you and Justin Bieber.

    First off you're videos have helped me train my orange boy with learning buttons! Problem is now he only uses one button mostly and doesn't use the rest of them. I have later, all done, play, outside, food, upset, and attention. Outside is the word he uses the most! 😂

    Thanks for the tips! Onni has been picking things up so quickly - he's gone from zero to 'speaking' 3 words in about 3 weeks. I want to pause here and let him get really fluent with those three before adding more, but he's in a rush to express himself!

    You are extremely well-spoken and organized. I have experience training horses and dogs, but cats are very different. I started with training may female cat tricks. She was a 2.3 lb kitten from SPCA that turned out to be a Bengal.... Bengals are not like other cats, which is a whole other story. Now 2 yrs and 16 lbs, she loves learning tricks. I learned a lot from that. Buttons proved a little more difficult. I began that process without any idea how to start. After watching I see some mistakes I made as well as some of the things we did correctly. So much of what you teach makes sense. What worked for me are the things like placement and paw targeting. But I started with "treat" and no "all done," which led to exactly what you said, overuse....I will now introduce "all done" next. Thank you for posting these. I have subscribed and will continue to appreciate, watch and support you! Thank you!!!

    Right now I have two buttons Play and Pet. Boris uses them very directly intentionally now. I need to get some new words but I'm not sure what to add and in what order. I definitely need an "All Done" button.

    I haven't gotten word buttons yet, but in preparation I am starting to assign words to some everyday objects and activities. Hopefully it will give him a jumpstart once I get buttons, since some words will already be familiar to him.
    It's so fascinating to see pets gain the ability to express themselves.❤
    BTW, your cactus scratching post caught my eye. I bought one a few months ago, since I now live in the desert.🌵☀️👍🏻

    Thanks for this great video. We're not quite at the stage of using the buttons, but your previous videos have at least got me on track to start paw-targetting from a place where I was just lost and didn't know what to do.
    Both cats are touching the button for a treat and one cat is touching it without being prompted. One cat is clearly responding to the outside button, she knows the door is about to be opened and she comes running from upstairs.
    -- Looking forward to more great content.

    I’m planning on getting some buttons soon for my cat Berlin. She recognizes two words, her name, and “lickey” I know that is cringe, but she knows it’s the name of her favorite treat. I’m gonna start with those words then add new words when she gets used to them. This looks like it will help!❤

    This is a great video! I am in the early stages of researching this to start soon and find your advice and info invaluable. Would love to know how you add names like mom or a housemate. Also with 3 cats would you advise against adding all their names as the cats pick things up? I'd like to add all 3 of their names but not sure if it would be too confusing and/or overwhelming.
    It's amazing to see the relationship you have built with Justin 😻

    Hi Sara! I want to/NEED to start with these buttons! My furbuddy is a meowing dictionary and for unknown reason thinks I’m a mind reader. 🙄
    To sit in the kitchen where a lot of catty things are and just meowing could - and have - take me quite some time to figure out what’s it all about.
    I have ordered 8 buttons and foam puzzle plates plus made a list in pairs of what I think is good words for us.
    But I wonder if “yes” and “no” should be on that list or if I should wait? If wait: when is it best to introduce them?

  • @bathcub6385

    Perhaps Justin avoided using "couch" because it sounds too closely to "ouch". Who would want to cuddle in a place that's potentially dangerous? Just saying. You could try "sofa" instead and see whether he is more inclined towards that one or not.

      I'll try, but I don't know if you have a concept of color.
      Justin is orange, with very slight lighter color variation all throughout. He has subtle, blended cream coloration on his face...between his eyes, down his nose, and around his lower mouth area. It nicely highlights his face. Also very slight cream color on the very tips of his toes.
      He's fairly fluffy, but not as fluffy as some cats I've seen.
      Definitely a handsome boy.❤

    You are doing a great job Sarah and I've learned so much from you! I've been practicing with my cat for a month and he's learning very quickly. He can now use 7 buttons. ^_^ However, I have a problem: He lies down on all the buttons to sleep or to clean himself and then presses them unintentionally. Do you have any idea how I can train him not to use the button-place for sleeping or cleaning? I would be very happy about an answer. :-)

    How do you teach Justin not to press the buttons in the middle of the night?

    • @travelwell6049
      @travelwell6049 Рік тому +1

      That's going to depend on the personality of the cat. My cats know not to wake me in the night, and I'm sure Justin knows the buttons are to communicate directly with Mom, who isn't going to respond if she's sleeping. Why do you ask?

    • @justinbiebercat
      @justinbiebercat  Рік тому +5

      I actually haven’t - he does press them at night sometimes! It’s the same as any other attention seeking behavior - he’ll try to wake me up if he’s bored and didn’t get enough attention during the day, whether he uses the buttons or decides to meow or jump on my head. Tiring him out with lots of playtime is the best prevention.

    • @eugostodepipoca
      @eugostodepipoca Рік тому +1

      @@travelwell6049 one of my cats started waking me up every night/morning around 5am. I do try to tire him out before going to bed, but I work full time (and most days, I'm not on home office) and I think that's what makes him crave my attention. So I fear if I started introducing buttons, he'd get frustrated if he pressed them during the day (when I'm out at work) or in the middle of the night.

    • @iadoptedaserialkiller2317
      @iadoptedaserialkiller2317 Рік тому +2

      @@eugostodepipoca I've trained Onni since Day 1 that there's no point making noise in the night. If he tries to wake me through any means I just pretend to be unconscious... and if I am awake at a silly time (it happens), any noise from him is responded to with a 'flop' as if I've just passed out.
      He now knows that the best way to achieve an early breakfast is to curl up calmly on the bed and wait for his cue: "Morning! What Onni want?". Then he chirrups excitedly and we hop out of bed together to go look at his buttons 😊
      Onni doesn't press his buttons unless someone is there watching, or at least within hearing distance. I've seen Kendra from Billispeaks say the same about Billi - she has a camera running 24/7 but the cat never presses buttons when the humans are out working.

    We don't need the buttons. If any of our animals have an issue. They just tell us. People just don't listen. Note: Cats will talk, But hurd folk like horses? Yah, you got to pry that out of them. You can't read about herd folk. Live with them. All of us talk... You / I, just need to know how to listen.
