Four of the best minutes of Match Game coming right up... Richard's answer after 9:40 probably WOULD have won in England, as he said. A cotton reel is a bobbin. Charles is hilarious after he says it, and Richard keeps playing out the humor. Joanne hands him a card, and he answers "I will not say gin to a..." (BLANK would be chaplain.) Richard doesn't give a totally British answer that often, but he's always so funny when he does. The other one that comes right to mind is "center BLANK" and he came up with center forward, a soccer position. Then when the top answer comes up Cotton Balls, RIchard gets his last dig in -- "aren't you glad I said reel?" Gene is just cracking up. Only Richard could get away with that. Also, Charles' riff starting at 10:50 about the chaplain's "relationship" with Betty was great. It keeps going for over two minutes and the entire panel's on board with it by the end. Fantastic.
Another wild episode. But I just loved seening Gene lose it during the Supermatch. I can see who he can keep a straight face during the show so long. And the whole fun around that Supermatch. That was so GREAT! Why oh why can't Game Show Network runs this season.
As a boy I watched this show off and on when I was going to Sleep or getting up . I had these different jobs that were at night . I had these 12 hour shifts .I remember the history of Gene Rayburn doing the original Match game back in the late 1960's
With today's head-to-head match, Betty White moves into second place with 3 matches (out of 8 tries) since the first episode (not counting the missing/lost episodes 31, 32, 33). Bert Convey is still the head-to-head match leader, with 4 matches (out of 8 tries). Keep in mind that Betty and Bert have only appeared a few weeks each. Richard, who has appeared in every episode has 2 matches (out of 12 tries). Also in the two-match club are Charles (only 3 tries!), Jo Ann Pflug (6 tries), Jack Klugman (4 tries), and Stu Gilliam (5 tries).
What's on all those cards Richard was disposing of right before the Super Match...he looked at them carefully before dropping them in the slot...it's as if he's shredding sensitive documents. He likes to keep busy, I guess, lol.
So, I'm a little slow today. when you get a minute, after watching this, could you explain Betty's answer to the nudist guy question to me. I got Richard's Look Magazine, but I'm stumped with Free Press. Thanks.
Back in those days (60's & 70's) publications labeled The Free Press referred to underground/alternative news sources. So, Betty's answer was clever since nudism is an alternative lifestyle..
"Fast" was so obviously the answer the writers were going for on the turtle question. I'm no genius at the game and figured that out. I was actually relieved and vindicated when the contestant said it but then the celebs completely blew it, except Richard.. it was a question tailor made for fast Mr. Dawson, womanizer extraordinaire.
Sometimes I would love to know what the writers were looking for just to compare them with the panel and contestant.. Why I like to hear Gene's answers, I think sometimes he knows what the writers were going for or maybe not. He liked to play the game along with the others.. ;0)
Ah, the wonderful Watergate era of Match Game! By the way; Pat Harrington's scripture: Eze 3:7 But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.
Apparently there weren't any bluegrass/country music fans on the panel or audience, there's a great tune called cotton eyed Joe. 💘 that presidential cuckoo ⏰ question, up to date answer is every hour on the hour he comes out messes his diaper and flubs his lines
For those who may be curious about Pat's Bible reference : Ezekiel 3:7 But the house of Israel will not listen to you; for they are not willing to listen to me; because ll the house of Israel are of a forehead and a stubborn heart.
ROFL! Another fine episode! :0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;O) ROFL! Love ya Charles! :0) ROFL! Love ya Betty! ;0) ROFL! Love the audience! ;0) side of beef? Fire place.. Hmm No longer the popular favorite.. ;0) ROFL! Love ya Charles! ;0) OH! This is the one that Richard got Gene laughing so hard he couldn’t get thou his information.. ;0) At least he admits to his mistakes, why I love him so much. So human.. ;0) Gene... Betty, Jo Ann and Brett all beat Richard.. ;0) arrow?? Bible? The free press Betty? Ok, I think I have never seen him kiss Brett til today.. ;0)

One of my all time fav's, Charles and Richard were funny.
Richard is never funny
@@kristabrewer6736 Krista Brewer's comments are never worth reading.
Miss those '70's clothes :) Love Richard's jacket!
Omg that was one of the funniest scenes, with CNR making fun of Betty White and the Chaplain....great stuff!
I t looks like they had Fun on this Game Show. ..

lol...I just love Charles in this episode.

Yay, Charles Nelson Reilly is back!
the shy nudist always carried a "look" magazine. i died on that one.
I think Gene flubbed telling the lady she had $600. Usually it's a "nice gift". It was the Chaplin that had $600.
Shouldn't "tree" have been a match for "bathroom" in that context? That's a dog's bathroom which _is_ what Richard and Betty meant when they said tree.
Brett and Richard is just so funny 🤣
You mean Brett is funny. 🤣
I don't she's funny just annoying
Richard is Very talented and Funny. 😀😁😀😊 Not like brett whats her name😓😫😠😡😭😢😱😰
Richard is NEVER funny!

The chaplain was gorgeous.
This is awful to say, I know, but did you see his wife in the audience? 🤮
@@broughtbackinshe probably didn't look like that before she gave him 3 sons
Pat Harrington's handwriting would have made a great font
He's a very good dresser, for that time of course. loved him on" One day at a time"too.

Good question. Now I'm curious. maybe notes from audience memers...some with phone numbers? Hmmm.
So, I'm a little slow today. when you get a minute, after watching this, could you explain Betty's answer to the nudist guy question to me. I got Richard's Look Magazine, but I'm stumped with Free Press. Thanks.
I think it's a double entendre: Free Press is a newspaper and "press" also means "touch", as in "free touch". Extremely clever and hilarious.
Back in those days (60's & 70's) publications labeled The Free Press referred to underground/alternative news sources. So, Betty's answer was clever since nudism is an alternative lifestyle..
That Chaplin sure is cute
They should gave given her the $600 for the slip
Gene said the losing contestant would take her $600 and go. She looked puzzled and asked “how much?” He misspoke since she won no money.
Comes out ever hour and says, “I’m not a crook.”
I said "lies."
@@JT-lt5grme too
Pat Harrington has a Jerry Lewis vibe going on. Anyone else see it?
I still miss Betty White!
Likewise Their All Special
We all miss her.
Betty is amazing
Wow I didn’t think that chaplain had a prayer with those lame answers of his
I'm sure you could do better...…...Don't think, it could only stink -up the place...
Is (was) Allen Ludden watching this? That could be trouble...
I love this show i watch it all the time. I love Betty White
I think Allen knew Gene long enough to already know and so did Betty.. ;0)
I love Betty White
I was watching. I didn't see Gene do anything to Betty. What'd he do?
@@kristabrewer6736 10:45 It was the contestant and Charles' observation.
Betty was 51 years old in this show. Didn't look a day past 30
Beautiful middle age woman. What a babe.

I thought "cute" just like the others.
Me too. The only thing in my brain was "cute." I thought it was weird, but it would have worked out.
I actually thought "slow", so clearly there is no obvious answer

The Official Iceman me too.
The amount that the chaplain has at this point is about the same as a year’s pay in the Navy.

I can't believe no one answered the last one with 10 gallon hat!
Boo hydrant is a dogs toilet
She does volunteer work for what?
I think she said volunteer work for the Watson Festival.
Yankee--blank
Me--- my wankee
I wondered who would be the one to put the "bible " in on the nudists question...figured there'd be more then 1
My mom didn't like Match Game. She said it encouraged conformity. But she didn't stop me from watching it.
Richard.....That jacket is a big NO.
I'm gonna pull a homer... "uhhhhhhh, nudie pflulg...." lol :P
Charles is resplendent today!

At least Gene admitted the 600 mistake after the break.

Fun show--as opposed to the current one--which is unwatchable.
The 'Presidential Cookoo Clock' question would sure be easy to answer today.
jo ann got it right.
I think it would actually be hard. But I would go with comes out every hour on the hour and raises inflation/gas prices/grocery bills/rent, etc.
For those who may be curious about Pat's Bible reference : Ezekiel 3:7 But the house of Israel will not listen to you; for they are not willing to listen to me; because ll the house of Israel are of a forehead and a stubborn heart.
I think he was just winging it
18:25 -- a magnifying glass
I remember cause I was 11 but it just didn't sit well when men went on the show. Men went to work woman went on game shows for entertainment.
The Chaplain looks a little like Tyrone Power.
I like red jacket Richard got on
I would have won with Cotton balls😂 13:02
Brett always made her ‘y’ backwards
Comes out.. and lies.
