So beautiful. I have never heard this till right now, though I have known Odetta's music since I was a kid thanks to my Dad's record collection when I was tiny in the 60s. I saw her play a few times and once she played an outdoor concert somewhere south of Boulder Colorado where I was going to college in the early eighties, and she broke a string and asked if anybody knew how to change a string. I raised my hand and she asked me to come up and take her guitar back into the dressing room and change her string. So I Change her string and bring her guitar back to her after she she sings a song a cappella. After the show I drummed up the courage to go back stage and she was so nice and thanked me for changing her string saying it stayed in tune so nicely. And she also said that once Josh White gave her hints about keeping new strings in tune and in my head I was like, "holy moly! Odetta is talking to me about her conversation with Josh White!" She was very cool. I love Odetta.

Great performance...great song. Of course, Odetta could have probably sung my weekly grocery list and made it sound like the most profound poetry.

    Grieve,
    Saddened, loss for Odetta's death;
    But joy overcomes,
    Knowing her originality inspires;
    Spreads like wildfire,
    Lipsyncers and pretenders:
    Beware.

Something Inside So Strong/ Labi Siffre
    Something inside so strong
I know that I can make it
Though you're doing me wrong so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh, no, something inside so strong
    there's something inside so strong
The higher you build your barriers the taller I become
The farther you take my rights away the faster I will run
You can deny me, you can decide to turn your face away
    No matter 'cause there's

The more you refuse to hear my voice the louder I will sing
You hide behind walls of Jericho, your lies will come tumbling
Deny my place in time, you squander wealth that's mine
My light will shine so brightly, it will blind you 'cause there's

    Brothers and sisters
When they insist we're just good not enough
    When we know better
Just look 'em in the eyes and say
    I'm gonna do it anyway
