Brett Michaels (Lead Singer) donates a portion of his proceeds to a vet organization, in every city he does a concert in. He also donates to local Diabetes charities, because he is a life long diabetic. He is a HUGE supporter, of our military/vets. A little info on this video: During the song, when he sings about his friend dying, he didn't know they were going to play video of the guy. They wanted his pure reaction to it, and it said he truly cried. Brett gets a lot of crap, from a lot of people, but he is a good guy, who gives a lot, and has almost died a few times. I believe God has some kind of plan for this man.
The best friend was also his personal security guy, which is why you see him leading Bret out, he killed himself. I met Bret once at a concert and I have to say he was the most down to earth and nicest person I've ever met. It was before the concert and he took the time to have a conversation with me when he would have been getting ready for the show. After the show he invited everyone out to his bus to sign autographs for them, this was a very small venue in Nashville when he was doing solo shows. One other thing, media has portrayed Bret as being a hardcore party guy and even suggested he shoots up and this story came from someone who was interviewing him backstage one time when he was actually giving himself an insulin shot, they claimed he was shooting up. He doesn't do drugs, and I don't think he drinks (if he does it's not much) mainly because of his diabetes, he has been type 1 diabetic since he was 6 yrs old, and from what he told me, he has to keep constant control over it. (I'm a type 2 diabetic so we talked about it)

Desert storm vet here.. brother u are so right about the homeless vets. It’s disgusting what our country does to them and a lot of vets. Thanks for ur service... doesn’t matter what branch we were in, we are all brothers.
The part about his friend dying really happened to him. It was a security guard for his group. He’s watching the clips they show while he’s singing. The director inserted clips of his friend and he ended up having to take a break cause it was too painful. You can see the real emotion in his eyes during that verse.
“Fallen Angel” was also a song he wrote about a girl they knew that fell on hard times after moving to California. Poison is one of my favorite bands, their music is well written and thoughtful. I saw them live 20 years ago and they were absolutely amazing.
I personally believe that if you serve our country in the world's greatest military, you should be taken care of for life. There is no excuse why the government is allowing all these vets to go homeless. Shame on the government
My Pop, a vietnam vet stationed in Thailand and exposed to Agent Orange died from cancer caused by the agent... Government didn't offer shit... Thanks for thinking about folks like him and so many others.... Peace!!!!
What’s even worse is that it’s been debated and “worked on” for many decades now. Yet veteran suicides and homelessness rises exponentially every year 😢. As someone who served, I can definitely say that I wish I had more influence to create some kind of change for my fellow vets. This song damn near makes me cry every time and is one of the many reasons why Poison is my favorite band of all time.
You are so right. I am extremely conservative and dont like the government handing out money, but this is different. These people served and worked for our country. they gave everything. We owe them. There should be no such thing as a homeless vet

Here’s a little fact about this song. When he is singing the verse about his best friend dying, that really happened. It was his bodyguard. If you notice during this part of the video, he gets emotional and actually stops “singing” for a few seconds. It’s because it had not been that long since his friend had passed and he did not know that they were going to show the video of him. It caught him off guard.

I can't listen to this song without crying. This was my youngest brother's favorite song when it came out. This song was played at his funeral. He was only 16 years old when he was murdered.
I'm so sorry for your brother. I'm praying for him and you and your family. No matter how long it has been. I hope justice was found along with peace for you and your family. I know first hand how hard loss can be. Hugs coming your way.
I've learned to trust in the Lord. Lost my job when the company I worked for didn't get their contract renewed. I wasn't worried at first. Have experience, great references and a good attendance record. 7 months later I've only had 1 interview in spite of uncountable applications. My unemployment had run out and my savings was gone. (I'm over 60 and found out that age discrimination does exist) My sister was ill and needed help so I was going to her apartment 4 days a week (had to borrow gas money). One night on my way home I'm crying as I drove, praying and begging God for help. Finally I just told the Lord I'd done everything I could so I was putting it in His hands, placing all my trust in Him. Felt immediate relief and 2 days later I received 3 job offers! Trust in the Lord and never give up hope!
A few facts from an old poison buff on how this song was written this was during the time when Jim Baker got caught , Bret has always advocated respect for the military and they even sent care packages to the guys oversees out if pocket, his best friend was his bodyguard kimo that really happened and when they first came to L.A they lived in an abandoned warehouse so they were actually homeless at first and they worked really hard to get where they got in the hayday if hairmetal they used to spend all day putting flyers on cars for whatever gig they were playing. I guess I've bored you enough Positive energy 👌 for you mam . I hope you find your something to believe in
This is an amazing song and based on true events. His body guard and friend died in a palm springs hotel room he locked himself in his room when he got the news and wrote this song. The veteran part is about his cousin Bob who was in wounded in Vietnam. There's actually another version of this song that is 28 minutes long.
And when his bodyguard kimo is shown in the video. He breaks down and cries. They left it in the video. You can see because he stops singing (lip synching for video)
Both my Uncle's served in Nam and thankfully came home.. not quite the same but they are still here at 77 and 75.. My brother-in-law couldn't take it and committed suicide in 2000.I don't remember that time.. I was a baby.. but I truly can't imagine not respecting our men and women that serve our country.. I still don't understand why ppl hated our men and women who served in Nam... They didn't have a choice.. they were drafted.. they HAD to go and serve.. They didn't deserve the hate they came home to.

I understand that place completely. If you need or want to talk I'm right here. I know you don't know me but just trust me when I say I definitely know how the dark place feels and sometimes talking it out helps. Like I said I am here if you need to vent and rant. Hugs
@@loraharvey6740 Thank you I will likely take u up on that at some point ❤️

This song is just perfect for any one
I love ❤️ this Poison song, it’s touching and beautiful! Thank you for doing Poison!🤟 Bret wrote this song about his best friend that was a bodyguard, it’s a true story! God bless Laura and her family!
One of my favorite songs
I can't listen to this song without crying. This was my youngest brother's favorite song when it came out. This song was played at his funeral. He was only 16 years old when he was murdered.
I'm so sorry for your brother. I'm praying for him and you and your family. No matter how long it has been. I hope justice was found along with peace for you and your family. I know first hand how hard loss can be. Hugs coming your way.
Thank you for your service
I guess I've bored you enough
Positive energy 👌 for you mam . I hope you find your something to believe in
Thank you so much
This is an amazing song and based on true events. His body guard and friend died in a palm springs hotel room he locked himself in his room when he got the news and wrote this song. The veteran part is about his cousin Bob who was in wounded in Vietnam.
There's actually another version of this song that is 28 minutes long.
This song was named after his tattoo on his arm.
And when his bodyguard kimo is shown in the video. He breaks down and cries. They left it in the video. You can see because he stops singing (lip synching for video)
@@gabeackerman4964 yes it breaks my heart. That part is very sad. I always said that this song and video was heartbreakingly beautiful.
80s rock was amazing
Sometimes it's not always about having the answers.sometimes it's good to just be silent and be supportive
I could not have said that better. Him just doing this reaction for me is doing more for me and my girls than he knows.
So sorry for your loss
@@andreamartinez6929 thank you sweetheart
Thanks for your services.
Great song by a great band ! Do more Poison !!!
Beautiful song, heartbreaking. I have always loved Poison since they started out. Bret Michaels is a great humatirian. A good guy. Suffered alot in his life and still keeps going! FYI...He also has solo music, more country/rock style! This man is a survivor. Nearly died from severe medical issues. Much respect to him!
You got this video out just in time. Not a month later the entire world was looking for something
When you get around to doing more Poison, cause you should, as you can see they’re awesome, check out Back To The Rocking Horse and Ride The Wind
One of my favorites from the band
This was a great song and a great time to be alive.
Prayers for Laura and her babies
Thank you so much Kathy. It means a lot to us
