    Excellent video sir you really covered everything in it.All stages of working through a brew day with a Braumeister.Last video of your I looked at was about building a sparge arm.You have seriously upgraded your home brewery since then.Smart thinking on the electric hoist for the malt pipe.Gets the job done perfectly and with no chance of being scalded by hot wort.

    I'll give you a hint for better sparging and a clearer wort. You'll have to make this, since I've never seen a place to buy one ...... create a fitting with a hose that fits into the pump outlet inside the brew kettle. When you lift the basket up to sparge, insert it into place and put the end of the hose up into the grain basket, and turn on the pump. This will pump wort over the grains. The grain bed will filter out much of the "cloudy" stuff so you are left with a fairly clear wort. Keep an eye on your wort and stop the pump once it is clear enough for you. For me, it takes about 20-30 minutes of sparging, the result is a very clear wort. I have no idea why they do not include the fitting / hose setup I described, but It makes a world of difference. (I got the idea from something Joe Fisher was doing in one of his vids.)

    Happy Holidays to you too Glenn. That thing does so much, I'm surprised it doesn't clean itself. That filter hoist must be worth its weight in gold. I can't imagine lifting that out slow enough to drain the grains.

    • @homebeerbrewery
      @homebeerbrewery  9 років тому +1

      Brad Watson Indeed the malt pipe is heavy. About 24 KG I guess. The hoist works amazing for about €79. Love the BM for sure, hopefully it will last for a really long time. Cheers and all the best for 2015!

    Hi. Great video. I guess you're Dutch but as all the reactions are in English I will write mine in English as well. I own a 50L Braumeister too. I do most things the same as you, but the sparging part was new to me (removing the siff and stirring it before you sparge). Cooling down is a thing I do with a plate chiller. That's a brilliant piece of equipment. I wouldn't want to miss it anymore. Will keep an eye on your channel. Cheers!

      +Matthijs van de Laar Hey bedankt voor het kijken en het berichtje :-) Ik spoel inderdaad omdat je anders te weinig wordt hebt met een veel te hoog SG, heb de meeste recepten zo gecalculeerd en werkt prima, bier smaakt ook perfect trouwens! Ooit wil ik ook nog met een platenkoeler aan het testen gaan, echter denk ik dat je juist meer hop residu/troep mee koelt en in je gist vat laat lopen i.p.v de wortkoeler die ik gebruik i.c.m.whirlfloc ? Proost en graag tot horens!

      I just ordered one from China last week! Looking forward to it arriving :)
      I have made a first attempt to record a home brew video. I only had my iphone at the time. I was holding it between my knees during sparging and subsequently dropped it into the brew pot with 20 liters of 78 •c wort 😣 But! It somehow survived lol 😆 So I guess my first brew video will be an absolute brewFAIL!

    Great job on the video explaining how a Braumeister looks and works. I'm in the market for one and this really helps show how cool they are. The only concern I have is seeing the wort freefall during mashing from the top of the malt pipe and splashing into the pool on the outside of the malt pipe. Do you have any issues with hot side aeration, resulting in staling effects on the finished beer?

    I really enjoyed your video, I have a new BM 50l, and will do my first batch as soon as I get a 220 run to my garage. One question I have that I cannot seem to get answered from anyone; You start off with 55l of water after mashing you sparge, approximately how much? Do you sparge until you collect 55l to start the boil? In your video you don't mention that but it shows you are at the 55l mark I think. So if I am correct about this, how much are you left with after the boil?

    What is your typical efficiency with this system? Do you ever have trouble brewing double or triple IPA styles with the system? Thanks

    • @homebeerbrewery
      @homebeerbrewery  7 років тому

      The efficiency is about 75 -85% ( deepens on a lot of factors) , if you like to brew high gravity beers you need to: 1: adjust the recipe with malt extract, sugar or syrup because the malt pipe has a limited capacity or 2: boil the wort longer before additions, evaporate the water in the wort so it gets higher in gravity or 3: mash twice in the same wort with a new fillet pipe with malt.
      The maximum cappacity of the malt pipe of a 50L BM : maximal filling 13,0 kg. The Braumeister website have answers too :
      It is possible to brew strong beer as well.Obviously
      you need to get stronger beer wort (more than 16 °P or 1068 SG). You
      could reach it by boiling down and reducing the liquid quantity.To
      become higher gravity wort and still keep the full volume amount you’ll
      have to mash twice with the same wort. It will provide you up to 24 °P
      or 1.101 SG.

    Great video. I have one question though, won't spargeing trough the grainbed the opposite way of the wort circulation flush all the fine particles back into the wort ??

      Hello! No, I don't have any signs of flushing a lot of the the small particles back into the wort, maybe some but acceptable, works for me this way :-) Cheers

    Leuk! Now it is 7 years later... does your Braumeister still work flawlessly? I have a very good offer for a Braumeister 50 from 2014 that looks exactly like yours. Would you recommend buying it today?

      I did my last brew with a BM Andre months ago, great quality equipment. Depends on the beer type you like brewing, for light ALL GRIAN ABV beers it’s in my opinion the best “set and forget system” if you like brewing stronger ALL grain beers other devices will be an option. My advice: just start and we will see what happens ,
      Dit the same 17 years ago 😜 cheers 🍻

      @@homebeerbrewery Thanks! That sounds good. I think I will get me one of these babies. I will keep my old, small and manual setup for the experimental stuff, but I like the comfort of the system when it comes to larger quantities. Cheers! 🍺

      Raul Sanchez Hello, do you have a isolation jacket? That helps a lot and the sea level is also a fact, I live 12 meters above sea level so boil is near 100 degrees Celsius. If you live somewhere in the mountains you will never get a rolling boil I guess? Some top brewers say that wort is already "boiling" at 96 Degrees Celsius. I subbed. Can you please upload a video about your boil? Cheers and all the bes tfor 2015!

    • @raulsanchez4600
      @raulsanchez4600 9 років тому

      homebeerbrewery Well the sea level is not a problem we are avout 50 meters. I just done 2 baches, 1 with out insolation jaket but it don't get a good rolling boil and the last one with insolation jaket that's goes better but I juts get a good rolling boil if I cover the braumeister. It's looks like your first experiene whit the BM 20l.
      My solution: cover the BM and just leave a 2-3 cm open by one side.
      That's really normal? what do you done for get the rolling boil of the video?
      Thanks!
      ;-)

    • @homebeerbrewery
      @homebeerbrewery  6 років тому +1

      Guillaume Lecrocq Hello, thanks for the kind words. I added a Whirlfloc tablet @13:00. Whirlfloc tablets are a blend of Irish Moss and purified Kappa carrageenan that encourages the precipitation of haze causing materials such as proteins and Beta glucans. Prepared in a quick dissolving, highly soluble tablet form. Almost everyone who tries Whirlfloc tablets prefer them to regular Irish Moss.
      Add for the final 5 minutes of the boil.
      Note: One Whirlfloc tablet is good for 10-15 gallons of wort. We suggest using half a tablet for 5 gallon batches for most beers. That was some information of the tablet. Works perfect! Cheers!

      Awesome video man, such a cool set up you have. Cheers to you! Keep on brewing! +John Matthews, Well it looks like he uses 14.5 gallons to mash in and about 24 pounds of grain, he also uses about 3.5 gallons to sparge with. I would say he is shooting for roughly a 15 gallon batch witch would imply that he needs a second tier, 20 Liter Braumeister witch at retail sells for $1,800. On top of that he has a huge fermentation vessel, electric sparge system, kick ass wort chiller, electric winch, and a kegging system. All told at retail, I would guesstimate his set up anywhere from $2,500 - $4,000 depending on other fun toys he has!

    • @TheMentalblockrock
      @TheMentalblockrock 8 років тому

      +jbyrne13 He mentioned that it is a 50L Braumeister! But anyway, it's a serious investment beyond where most homebrewers are.
