I use the safety razor, however when I get older and my beard grows more and I will bet more options, I will learn how to use the straight razor

    Straight razor is old technology.
    Safety razor is newer.
but both are classic (none of that plastic shiyat)

This particular straight razor is called a shavette. A shavette has a changeable blade as the one depicted. A true straight razor requires regular stropping & an occasional honing to remain sharp.
Besides that, these folks know what their talking about.

Actually is called straight razor with disposable blades, but we call them shavette because dovo was the first that make this and called dovo shavette

I am not a big fan of those shavettes that stick the razor between two pieces of metal and have a third piece fixing it all in place. The whole setup ends up very thick and limiting your control of the geometry. Much prefer shavettes that slide the blade in, where its closer to a real straight razor (like those from Dovo, Feather and the newer offerings from Boker).

I would say for a 3 min video it was pretty good other than that being a shavette and not a straight razor as pointed out above, and there are differences between the use of those.
Being someone who uses a straight razor to shave, and have done for years, I would however disagree that cutting yourself is easier with a straight, in reality there are two ways to cut yourself with a straight, a lot of excessive pressure, or slicing on the horizontal, and I can tell you from experience, doing those things with a double edge will cut you just as easily.

My experience has been the opposite. I recently bought a few different DE razors to mix up my routine a bit (have been exclusively using a safety razor, plus a shavette for travel, for about 4 years now) and the safety razor is just more "idiot proof". They aren't that far off from a cartridge razor, and that's after using a both a supposedly more "aggressive" parker razor alongside a "mild" merkur one. Sorta disappointed actually, its downright boring to shave with a DE razor.

@@JimIBobIJones I totally agree you have to be more careful with the cut throath as it's much sharper than its grandfather and the safety razor has a safety bar that reduces the risk of cuts considerably.
I love both eventhough I'm still learning with the cut throath and there has been some blood shed but I love the way the blades feels as I shave

I move to a safety a couple of years ago and was a great improvement to cartridge ones.
Now I considering an shavette but honestly, I wonder if its really such and improvement to switch, or just a cool factor. I don't care about cool but practicality and the safety just works so...
A straight is damn cool but the maintenance is keeping me out. I just start learning to sharp kitchen knifes so I don't think I had any skills to proper sharp something like that. 😅😅😅

Some time ago I watched a guy, talking about artificial edges on the DE blades and that they cause the irritation on the skin. So the shavette could be no improvement for you. Personally I can only compare DE and real straight razor. And the straight is a big improvement in irritationless shaving, if you can handle it

okay question, I have a very fine beard, just on my chin really, I use a normal cartage and the blade lasts me months, is it worth me going the route of a straight or safety razor?

Absolutely! I bought 100 of the Japanese feather blades for my safety razor. Each blade lasts up to 3 shaves and I can go 3 days without a shave but I shave weekly.
I haven't even used half the box yet!

@DuckLord by the way, the feeling on skin of shaving with a shavette and a straight is very different. It's more like a DE razor. You can learn the handling, but the feeling of a straight is much softer on the skin

@@ezbladeshavingproducts hi, some info for you, I watched a video of a guy some time ago, who called the edges of DE blades artificial and that this causes more skin irritation. The stroped edge of a real straight razor cause much less skin irritation. The handling is the same as a straight, the feeling is the same as a DE.

@@Jjf109nine Being a nazi or not being a nazi is not comparable to having a shavette or a straight razor lmao. To most people they'll just be like "Straight razor" and "Different straight razor". Same idea, use and technique, different maintenance.
