Nice to hear an actual critical review of the stick instead of someone reading the ad copy while making failed attempts to fly their aircraft. Thanks for your attention to detail and build quality. Thanks - Lumpy
Finally. A HOTAS review that is worth watching in it's entirety. These are the type of reviews that actually help someone make a purchase decision. Clear, concise, and very straightforward. Thanks for helping a fellow simmer make up his mind, although now my wallet hates you....
1) The grip was made as light as possible, so it can be used as assistance to make the base more accurate, more secure and far more easier to move the whole extended stick as you don't have a heavy weight to throw around. 2) One thing that many does not know, but the foldable trigger is a axis, not just a button. And you can assign multiple virtual buttons to that axis range, like from 0-25% to have button A, 26-50% button B, 51-98% a axis and 99-100% a button C. That gives a HUGE amount of options what to do with the foldable tigger. And when you activate the foldable trigger position sensor, you get a button when trigger is UP and button when trigger is DOWN. And then you have the one physical spring loaded button with it as well. That allows to example do combinations like when the foldable trigger is UP, you can set the other buttons to perform other functions as the dual-stage trigger is a modifier when set UP, and use it as well as Master Arm switch etc. 3) The stick extension is not universal that Virpil and TM are using. It is the proprietary from TM, that Virpil seems to be licensed or just copied. VKB just made a better, own version that is fully digital with three pins. And the VKB extension huge benefit is as well that you can tilt the grip by 15 degrees, so it ain't straight but angled to your right/left hand and still be balanced. And that is good thing, as the Virpil is never going to be a own unique designer, as they are always dependent from the thrustmaster connection. Sure you can switch between TM base and Virpil grip, but as the TM base has limited axis, buttons etc, Virpil can't provide anything more or better than what TM will ever do. That is why VKB can offer 2 axis (X and Y) stick, two 2 axis mini-sticks (not 8-way hats) and two extra axis (foldable trigger and break leveler), while offering three 4+1 hats and four buttons, plus three trigger buttons. And when you can turn those axis ranges to buttons, you get A LOT of options that Virpil can NEVER offer because TM compatibility doesn't allow it. 4) Small correction as well, the spring numbers are not pounds or any forces. They are just figuretaly numbers to separate their strength to each others. So 20 is 2.5x less than 50 etc, but it is not kilograms or pounds. 5) The idea of the blackbox is that you get all the devices behind a one unique device ID for Windows. So no matter what game you run, it will see stick, throttle and pedals as single unique controller with LOTS of axis, buttons, rotaries etc. Like try to fly old PC games with TM, Saitek, Logitech etc, and you have lots of trouble to get all devices as one. With VKB? It is like one controller, easy. 6) And VKB produce lots of those controllers, but there are separate companies that are selling them in USA and Europe, and it is about those to receive the controllers from VKB based their orders what they do. So if ie the Europe VKB store doesn't have them, it doesn't mean that VKB itself doesn't have them in stock and selling them to Russia via own channels. And they do sell almost all what they produce, why it is slightly difficult to get ones as there is huge demand for their products. Comparing VKB to example TM Warthog, I take the lighter build and design. The pleasure to use a ABS plastic molded grip is nicer on hot days as your palms do not sweat as they do on TM. On winter times it is nicer to hold, and it anyways just feels far nicer when you have light controller to sway around. What they should do is just add some soldering socks to the springs in the triggers to make them silent, or maybe add just something to dampen their sound.
The second half of your third point is incomplete. Virpil hardware can provide more axes and buttons than the TM when attached to a *Virpil* base, as the Constellation Alpha demonstrates. If you put a Virpil grip on a TM base some of the grip's functions will not work - but that is because of the hardware limitation in the TM *base*, not in Virpil's grip. Perhaps you realize this, but I don't want future readers of your post to believe incorrectly that Virpil can handle fewer buttons and axes than VKB. The nice thing about the TM/Virpil connector compatability is that you can use TM grips with Virpil bases seamlessly. But I'm not sure why someone would want to use a virpil grip on a TM base, to be honest.
Great review. The positive thing I see about having the USB controller separated from the stick is that it makes the stick timeless. We all remember all the flight controllers we had to throw away when the 15 pin Game Port Standard made its way to USB controllers and vanished. In my opinion the VKB is build to last and will live to see the next generation Standard whenever that might happen. That way we won’t have to throw away our expensive equipment but just a new modern “black box”..
@@harpoon_bakery162 my MCG Pro ist just fine, and doesn't feel cheap at all. Though I only have it for 3 weeks now. I'll update this if it gets bad or anything, which i don't hope :)
TY excellent review. I just bought Gunfighter III with the twist feature. I wanted to learn a little more about it. Bought it explicitly to use with Star Citizen too btw. Nice to see a fellow space whale.
Great review. This has the side-by-side comparisons I was looking for. My only suggestion would be as follows. As I recall, the name "Gunfighter Mk. II" refers specifically to the base. The grip is often sold as a separate product, and is known as the "Modern Combat Grip." The version you reviewed in the first half of the video is the "MCG Pro." You may want to add that to the title/tags so it comes up in search.
Thanks for the honest review and especially the size comparision with the Virpil and TMWH (which i currently own). Saved me from ordering and then returning the stick. The VKB shop does not give any dimensions for their products. Got rather small hands and that stick would definitely be too big for me, so i wrote it off at that point already. Virpil one will be fine though.
Good review. I've got an owner's point of view, if you're interested? If anyone is interested in buying one, it's worth skipping to where I describe my purchasing experience! :-) I also have large hands, I also find it very comfortable. I should really point out that the X-55/56 is also very comfortable for me, meaning that if you struggle with the Saitek, the VKB might not be an improvement. The buttons on mine are rock steady, no rattle and a really positive click when pushed. That might suggest variable build quality, not good on something this expensive! The top trigger feels squishy, I'd prefer a much stronger spring. The bottom 'trigger' is actually another axis- on Russian aircraft it's the brake lever. Viewed as such, it's actually rather good, progressive with plenty of control and a long throw/wide range of movement. I like 'flying' older warbirds, a bit more control over the brakes is very welcome. You missed three five way buttons- that's a huge number of options you can put right at your fingertips. All three have a really nice feel and that's after a year and a half of constant use. The main two way trigger feels tiny, plasticky and toy like. After the upper trigger it's my least favourite part of the stick. The grip itself doesn't feel at all cheap to me and makes a quite different sound when I tap it. Again, that may mean there are differences in build quality, or it may be that different markets get slightly different grips? Mine is an EU purchased, Russian marked one. Mine came with a couple of reasonable quality hex keys, too. Which saved rooting around the old toolkit, I suppose... The gimbal is superb, the extension is excellent. Another missed detail- you can offset the angle at which the stick sits. Real fighter sticks are often offset to the left, something you can mimic with the Gunfighter. It was an unexpected bonus for me. I have broken wrists and was amazed just how much more comfortable it felt after longer sessions! For anyone considering buying one of these: be aware that you're buying from a Russian company. They really don't give a fat rat's arse about customer service! They regularly berate and verbally abuse paying customers on their official forum, God only knows what their after market support is likely to be. My stick is still going strong after a year and a half, but I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to buy anything else from them, just in case there ever was an issue. Their stock is a joke, they don't keep to delivery promises and they're comfortable taking your cash weeks before sending the product, only telling you they've done it after the money's left your account. When I complained about the practice I was told I could get a full refund if I wanted. Very generous of them! I waited months for an opportunity to buy the product. VKB EU took my cash, then told me they didn't actually have what I wanted in stock several days after ordering. I wanted English markings, I wanted an s-extension, they offered me a basic grip with Russian markings and a promise to send the s-extension soon(tm). Or a full refund and several more months wait until their next delivery... I'm pretty sure they broke some European Consumer Laws, but demand for their kit is so large they get away with it. My grip arrived almost a month after I paid for it, the extension came weeks after that. It left a very bitter taste in my mouth and it's put me off buying anything else from them. Obviously, your mileage may vary...
Wow, between the review and your post, VKB is out for me. Holy crap, i was considering them but now it's Virpil or nothing (well, that is unless i go with Warthog HOTAS.....but I'd rather not).
Its not really as bad as he makes it out to be. It still feels sturdy, although it is a bit echoy. I mean i would have like better plastic, but the other features do put it better than the virpil, although only bairly as they are both fantastic and at least virpil doesn't have 6 month stock shortages
Why? Warthog/Cougar are metal ones and there are pictures of the cracked grips as it is probably some cheap alloy easy to be cast. The crack surface was typical surface of the cast alloy I have seen on other stuff made this way. You may have thick wall yet brittle object and vice-versa. Do you realize that i.e. modern pistols have almost universally plastic frame (albeit with metal inserts for mechanical part), many of them are very thin yet they can handle tens of thousands cycles that are fairly rough? Btw., you can check video by TheNOOBIFIER1337 who disassembled the grip - seems to be nicely built with metal inserts for bolts, nicely put together. At least older premium Virpil grip had some parts held by hot-glue - do not know how their newer version looks like. Nothing alike here.
I doubt that VIRPIL grip is better in this term. Maybe you can argue which base is better VIRPIL MT-50 or VKB GF, but MCG grip is in every way better than Virpil.
@@massacreator Can you explain why? As comparison just by parameters shows only some fairly minor differences in i.e. HAT construction maybe some button is different. But otherwise they look like fraternal twins.
@@mungo7136 they basically are twins. I mean it really is minor differences like the virpil has a more dense plasitc molding whereas the vkb has metal countersunk screws and the virpil has better pushbuttons and the vkb has better 4 way hat switches and the metal trigger is greate. both have terrible two stage triggers that feel overall unsatisfying compared to the thrustmaster. The main difference between the two is the base. He does not explain this at all in this video, but the vkb has one added ajustment over the virpil which is the dry clutch. which is explained in his other video labled "VKB SCG Kosmosima + Gunfighter Pro MK.II" which goes into that feature. basicly the vkb has the best base on the market wherease virpil has a slightly better feeling stick. but as we know the base is what matters or else we would all just stick with the thrusmtaster with its not so great base and a wesome stick
Nice review dude! Since you described build quality VERY well, I was wandering if you could review the WinWing Super Taurus throttle and Super Libra stick?
Fantastic review. Top quality....Researching flight-stick tradeoffs is driving me insane. I was Just beginning to think _Virpil_ *Warbird* (base) + _VKB_ *GunfighterII* + _VKB_ *Arm Extension* [Later get Virpil Throttle] It saddens me to find my best options are not cross-compatible. I wanted to have the option to pick up a used Warthog grip for the VKB Arm extension to use for Huey + A-10c in DCS. The longer I take researching, the more I'm like _"damn just buy the stupid Saitak HOTAS & be done with it"_
there is an adapter for the thrustmaster grip for the vkb base sold on their store. he also left out the inclusion of the dry clutch which reduces the annoying bounce that the springs have which doesn't bother everyone. He really did exaggerate the quality of the plastic as while it does feel slightly hollow, it feels sturdy at the same time, and while i would have like medal or something like that, it isn't really a big issue. The 3 push buttons on the front however are not that great, but again its only 3 buttons and he fails to point out the extremely good 4 way hats. all 3 of them are by far the best hat switches i have ever used and they also have a push down feature which is easy to do unlike other hat switches. Unlike him and this really comes down to personal preference the metal trigger is actually very satisfying for ME to use (will be different from others) as it has a click in the middle which feels pretty satisfying to me, but it is a smooth trigger and others will not enjoy this depending on what you like.
Don't recall if you mentioned this, so apologies if you did, but: Another thing to note with VKB that I discovered the hard way...while they make great products, what they DO NOT offer is the ability to buy THEIR bases separately. Therefore, make sure you are purchasing the base and stick that you want for the future as well. For example, I bought the kosmosima grip with the gladiator base trying to save a few dollars initially with the thought that I can just upgrade to a gun fighter base in the future once I have more funds available (like with my Virpil WarBrd base with my Warthog)....NOPE. If you want a kosmosima grip on a gunfighter base, you have to buy that base with ANOTHER kosmosima grip. So essentially, your first grip, which still works perfectly, just became a plastic paperweight. Just something to keep in mind when purchasing grips and bases from VKB. Not a game changer, just something you need to keep in mind when considering budget and what you want long term. EDIT: it has been brought to my attention that this has been changed since my original comment. You can now find standalone GF III bases under their Accessories section.
@@admiki9808 they must have changed that option since I posted this comment. I searched every option on their website for a standalone base and I found no such options. There was even a disclaimer posted on their site that stated they didn't sell standalone bases because a standalone base isn't considered a complete flight stick setup. But I see now under the accessories tab, they've changed that. Perhaps VKB changed that to be more competitive against their market counterparts. Either way, I'm glad to see they changed it and thank you for pointing that out! 👍
Can't deny it. It looks super cool. But i am glad I went Virpil. The most important reason is that Virpil has a new device every 3 months. If you plan to expand your cockpit (first go with a stick, then throttle, then side panel, etc) Virpil is the right choice. Also it is very weird that the plastic quality is bad. I didnt expect that.
I would not say it is bad compared to other sticks. May be it is bad compared against how I looks. It looks super cool, and when you see it you expect it to feel like holding something like real Glock. But when you grab it, it turns out to be more like airsoft Glock without internals. Actually plastick is high grade but very thin and this thinness gives cheap feel. VKB replied to this criticism saying that they wanted to make grip more light, cause lighter grip is better for use with extenders. It is still extremely durable and reliable.
The "Black Box" - The one I received was indeed black, not orange. Made of thin plastic, not aluminum. Does not feel sturdy in the least. It sits on the floor taking up space, collecting dirt and dust. It has mounting ears but the screw holes are tiny. No way a decent sized screw could get through there without destroying the plastic. Like the reviewer, I too would prefer they leave the box out of the system and simply route a USB cable from each peripheral. Running out of USB ports has never been a factor for me. I think the Black Box is a failure, not a feature.
you did miss a few things. While the push buttons are not the best (similar in quality to what you expect from saitek) the 4 way hats are fantastic. They are by far the best feeling hats i have ever used even when compared to the virpil. The other main and probably the best feature is the dry clutch in the base. This allows you to limit that bounciness you get in both the vkb and virpil ones which bothers some people and really helps as far as making this stick feel more true to life. You actually CAN in fact put the thrustmaster grip on the vkb base, however you need to buy an adapter which be it not expensive is hard to get your hands on just like their sticks due to their low output. One opinion from me is i actually really liked the metal trigger which I honestly is based off of personal preference. It doesn't have a distance click, but it is very smooth and a slight vibration occurs when you go through the middle section similar to the break on an SVD rifle. Other than that great review. The vkb needs more reviews as there really isn't that much information available about in online
excuse me, could you clarify this for me please? VKB site says one hat only (on the grip) , and 4 ministicks, on top. What hatS are you referring to? Can the sticks be somehow used as hats, with 4 or 8 functions?
@@Gylfi0 There are 2 4 way hats on the top of the stick one for your index finger on the side and the other is the one in the direct bottom center on the top section of the stick. the stick on the bottom left is a mini stick as found in a ps3/xbox controller and so is the top middle. There is a 3rd 4way hat in the CMS position where your thumb rests on the side of the stick. There are no 8 way hats just full min sticks and 4 way hats along wiht 4 push buttons a duel stage trigger and secondary gun trigger and a break lever axis
Need to add that you can configure MCG both mini-sticks to be anything you want. They can be buttons, 4-way or 8-way hats, mini-sticks or a axis trimmers (top default). You can adjust either one deadzones, ranges as well even amount of buttons in axis. The flip-trigger is not just a dual-stage trigger but it is an Axis as well. That is how it senses the flip-up and flip-down positions. And then when you pull it, it is an Axis. And it has spring-loaded button at middle of range. But you can define IIRC three buttons on its whole axis range easily, so you can have three buttons with one pull. Resulting like: Up - Down - First - Second - Spring-Button - Third. For me in DCS the UP position is Master Arm Off. Flip it down and it is On. First detent is when I just barely squeeze the trigger and second is the spring loaded button. I do not use 2nd or 3rd zones in it, yet... The break leveler is as well as axis, and you can define X amount of zones to it that act as well as buttons, modifiers or almost anything you can do with the software. I have the brake lever set to be axis with two zones as virtual button. It works as brake in all, but at start and end I have zones to enable air brakes or as modifier to release chute with trigger. So when I want to enable air brakes, I pull fully the grip. When I want to release chute, I pull it slightly and squeeze trigger. I have Mk.IV pedals set to have zones at the end of both sides. They act as modifier buttons in DCS that works together with brake lever to be as toe brakes. So I can do full breaking with lever in grip. But if I press pedal down, then my brake lever acts that side toe brake. So it works like common Soviet fighters before Su-27S that you push pedal fully to what direction you want to turn and then adjust braking force with leveler. And if you want to know what all versions have, look this map made by VKB: www.mudspike.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/MCG-Announce-Final-1.jpg
when you review the Virpil Control Panel #2 or #1 and figure out how to control LEDs individually for colored button presses per LED, we'd all appreciate it.
I know this is an older review, however if anyone knows. Whats the total length from base to top with long extension? I fly mostly helicopters, and wondering about a floor mount for obutto ozone rig.
are you going to review the Virpil control panel #1, or since it's just a button box, it's not probable? It looks like a CM2 Throttle in case you haven't seen it. Went on sale last week or week before last. Thanks man
Late comment, but with the extension, what do you think is the best table mount for this? I'm upgrading my setup to be a bit more refined, but I still want to be able to assemble and disassemble everything with ease.
Great review dude. Everything you said is accurate. I just bought a VKB Gunfighter MK III with Modern Combat Grip Pro English version with twist axis! What a mouthfull! Let me start with that there base/gimbal. Mine had a notch when pushing the stick right. It was not smooth. Every other direction was perfect. After complete disassembly i diagnosed the roller bearing for the left/right axis as the culprit. It happens. I worked with bearings for over a decade and sometimes they have a notch from factory however, this shit should NOT have passed quality control at VKB. 0/10 for quality control. It was the first thing i noticed with this product. Packaging and condition upon delivery were breat! For a "premium" base i'd expect to not have to replace bearings on day one...... obviously. The grip..... You got it. Everything you said was spot on, from ergonomics ( i also have a big hand) to button and build quality. It feels CHEAP. The buttons feel CHEAP. After hearing about how great the metal Warthog grip feels, this a big ole shame! It feels worse than a worn-out Playstation 3 controller. Not even joking. I have 1 more issue with my grip too. It has loose/broken parts rattling and falling up and down the length of the grip when i flip it upside down and back. Something in there is literally broken and bouncing around. All buttons operate fine but some do feel like they're half broken already.... another 0/10 for qaulity control at VKB. I paid about $900 AUD for this poor excuse of a "premium" product. That's a LOT of money for a casual sim user. This is my first hotas setup and my first time buying apparent "high-end" peripherals. I was tossing up, like we do, over the Warthog, Virpil, VKB, Winwing or the cheap stuff. Reading every review and article on all of them. Apparently, 90% of sim fans have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER about engineering quality.... Or maybe i just got unlucky? Wish i seen THIS review though.... Meanwhile, bought some MFG Crosswind pedals and they're amazing! couldn't be happier :) 100% recommend MFG.
you know if all the manufacturer's went universal flight stick socket and just all made a nice competitive priced component industry maybe the sticks being overpriced wouldn't be such a problem
It can rest on a desk. It is a fairly tall arrangement so you may want your desk lower or chair higher to accommodate the height but it can certainly be used on desktop if you wish.
The things that you don’t really cover is the fact that I believe those buttons can be easily replaced and not Soldered in or so I have heard about the intro stick they offer.
@Snake Eater Company thanks so much for this review. You mentioned that you have large hands. May I ask how large your hands are (measured from the tip of the longest finger to the crease under the palm)? That would help me (and others) determine, if the grip might be too large for us.
do you fell a lot of differences in between the High end Virpil Base and the thrustmaster hotas warthog? I was thinking is switching but is a lot of money and may the difference is so little, Can you give me your thoughts base on your experience with them? Thanks for the videos by the way!
Thanks for watching the vids FP! I'm afraid if you're hoping I'll tell you "its the same and shouldn't spend more money" I'm not going to be able to say that. There is a big difference in customization, smoothness/precision, realism, and most certainly durability when you upgrade from a Warthog base. But it is certainly expensive to upgrade I know. The good news is you can put your warthog grip onto the bases you would upgrade to so at least you don't have to go into a full replacement right away. Just start with the base.
I think the X-56 has a thumbstick on the grip somewhere. They thought that much through. The new black version seems to be much better than the old blue one.
yeah...looks good, but every time I google Logitech flight hardware, the results are always people having problems or people wanting to upgrade away from the Logitech device. They need go all in on a cultural shift as a company that stresses quality & durability to match Thrustmaster
I actually have a VKB Gunfighter + KG12 grip *and* a Virpil WarBRD + MangoostT50. I completely confirm the comparatively lousy quality of plastics and buttons of the VKB grip. Virpil on the other hand perfect. As for the bases, it's day and night. Virpil's is *precise*, VKB's is not. However, the fastening of VKB, I find it to be way better. Virpil's, I have to use a wrench...
Great review, I have a Virpil CM2 grip whose hat switches don't work right & wondering if the VKB has the same problem? On my Virpil stick the centre push button of every hat switch always signals when I move the hats to any position. So you can't use a hat switch for the DCS A-10 CMS, or the F-18 SCS & AV8-B TDC switches the way they should work. Virpil support is a joke & I see there's plenty of other customers with the same or similar issues on different grips & the throttle with no solution, or even an acknowledgement of the problem from Virpil. This was my 3rd purchase from Virpil but it will be my last. I was considering their rudder pedals but settled on MFG Crosswind's in light of the problems I have with this handle. Whilst we may seem as bad burned or scalded with VKB & Virpil, I'd be willing to wait for a MCG Pro if it definitely works the way I want it to. Worst-case scenario for me would be buying another all-metal crap-pile of a Warthog & the TM F-18 grip instead. I also vowed never to buy another TM HOTAS after bad experiences with Cougars & Warthogs.
@@jessecalder The annoying thing is that everything else I have from Virpil is the best I've ever used. The support ticket is in flux, I deliberately waited to the end of the holidays to account for close-down periods. Thanks for the reply.
@@jessecalder i just order gunfighter mk3 with the mcg pro with the 200mm. Super excited haha. Do you need to grease/oil on the cams? Any tips for maintenance? Thanks for the response 👍!
your not ment to ever hit the stops its a break lever the stick is based on a mig 29 and in the mig 29 just like the 21 they have a break lever on the stick
You're right, gun triggers are always terrible....Virpil CM2 trigger is awful too, it has two positions , both bad. Ugh, i wish someone would build a good one.
i am so conflicted and need your help. I love your videos and FULLY trust your opinion. I have an X56 and looking to upgrade. I need a stick that has Z axis to replace the rudder pedals. Was going to buy VIRPIL ALPHA-R but stock is ultra limited and buying off website when things are in stock is so frustrating. I started looking at other alternatives and saw VKB. If you had the option of buying either VKB or VIRPIL which would it be. I play Elite Dangerous, DCS World and plan on getting into Star Citizen. Thanks in advance for your opinion.
@@jessecalder there was a post in their forum with one of their devs stating it was coming Sept along with a surprise. I'll believe it when I see it though..
I might be mistaken, but the plastic is industrial grade plastic. Also the internals (gimbals) are all metal unlike the warthogh, wich is the oposite... The secondary triger has a magnetic sensor, wich can be used as a "safe/armed" while in the uper/lower position, plus the actual trigger. And the layout and ergonomics should be spot on, is based (copy) of the current Rusian fighter jets stick. Cheers!
Not a thing wrong with vkb. Lots of "problems" in this video are non issues.... ie, install properly. Chose vkb years ago when I was wanting to become a Rotorcraft pilot. Now, using the same setup, only now I'm a MD500 pilot, have it set up like it really is. Still no issues all these later. Wasn't going to wait 8+ months for virpil while paying at least 2x more. Hard pass.
That way we won’t have to throw away our expensive equipment but just a new modern “black box”..
but the grip is thin cheap plastic and things are a bit loose and such according to review. Seems Virpil is the way to go. What do you think?
@@harpoon_bakery162 How about the new metal version? MCG Ultimate.
Fastforward to 2020,. the Best ergonomic grip now is the VKB Kosmosima or they call SCG(Space Combat grip)
It would be helpful if you would show the flight stick in use in your set up.
Good review. I've got an owner's point of view, if you're interested? If anyone is interested in buying one, it's worth skipping to where I describe my purchasing experience! :-)
I also have large hands, I also find it very comfortable.
These Russians made a fantastic product!
what a great review wow. clearly described what i actually care about. And those ergo/size comparisons were super useful.

Thanks Wulhem and welcome!!
The minute you tapped that plastic, I changed my mind on this one.
Since you described build quality VERY well, I was wandering if you could review the WinWing Super Taurus throttle and Super Libra stick?
thanks for this honest review !!
Fantastic review. Very informative.
Thank you for the comprehensive review. I’ll be passing on this specific model
Fantastic review. Top quality....Researching flight-stick tradeoffs is driving me insane. I was Just beginning to think _Virpil_ *Warbird* (base) + _VKB_ *GunfighterII* + _VKB_ *Arm Extension*
[Later get Virpil Throttle]
It saddens me to find my best options are not cross-compatible.
Don't recall if you mentioned this, so apologies if you did, but:
Another thing to note with VKB that I discovered the hard way...while they make great products, what they DO NOT offer is the ability to buy THEIR bases separately.
I don't know where did you get that info, but you can buy GF III base as standalone
Great products. (Still) Waiting for a throttle from VKB...
Great review 👍👍👍 Thanks
I just bought this. It's a big upgrade, hoping it'll last a lifetime
Thank you bud, was debating on picking one of these up. But now I’ll be going with dual Virpils. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks for the insights.
Hey, there. Great review. What desk mount are you using?
Thanks Lucid! My setup changes quite often but right now when I run the VKB Gunfighter I mount it with a VKB Stronghold desk mount.
you did miss a few things.
Resulting like:
Up - Down - First - Second - Spring-Button - Third.
And if you want to know what all versions have, look this map made by VKB:
www.mudspike.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/MCG-Announce-Final-1.jpg
having seen the mig-29 stick restored, the stop lever should be attached to the extension, VKB should work on that.
when you review the Virpil Control Panel #2 or #1 and figure out how to control LEDs individually for colored button presses per LED, we'd all appreciate it.
Great vid, good to have a real neutral review for a change. Nice stick, but Virpils just feel and look better value/ more quality to me.
being completely honest, would you pay upwards of $600 - $700 for a stick milled out of metal ? the price will go up dramatically.
The gymbal has to be a lot stronger too
Eliminating desktop users completely
Do you need to screw down the baseplate or can it rest on a desk unmounted while using the attached joystick?
It can rest on a desk. It is a fairly tall arrangement so you may want your desk lower or chair higher to accommodate the height but it can certainly be used on desktop if you wish.
The things that you don’t really cover is the fact that I believe those buttons can be easily replaced and not Soldered in or so I have heard about the intro stick they offer.
Do review of the VKB kosmosima, if you can
I really want virgil stuff but it's never in stock unlike vkb.. this one is looking nice
Head to head CM2 vs Gunfighter Mk.III?
Excellent
I actually have a VKB Gunfighter + KG12 grip *and* a Virpil WarBRD + MangoostT50. I completely confirm the comparatively lousy quality of plastics and buttons of the VKB grip. Virpil on the other hand perfect. As for the bases, it's day and night. Virpil's is *precise*, VKB's is not. However, the fastening of VKB, I find it to be way better. Virpil's, I have to use a wrench...
VKB or VPC, what's the best?

I'm surprised that this stick is that plasticy, considering the vkb pedals are built like a tank.
