I wish to thank Col. Hermann and the troupe for coming to Downeast Maine in 1999 (?). He and his staff set me on the stallion in full dress. The photo helped me acquire two very fine wives. Tragically, the first one passed away in 2004. The second one is still alive and we are together in Taiwan. She gave me my first and only child, who is an amazing filly in her own right!
@Ethan Overmyer These horses have the ORIGINAL bloodlines from the Lipizzaner that were in Austria and the women who runs this show, her grandfather was the one who helped Patton save the Lipizzaner. They have the original blood in them.
This is just a TRAINING session, not a performance. The horses are learning the moves, which aren't perfect at first. The youngest ones may not have learned the move yet and are being taught. I just returned from watching a session. The horses were treated with gentleness and care. Those long "whips" are only used for soft tapping, not whipping.
I had the privilege of working with these amazing horses for the 3 days they were down in my state. leesh, there is a reason that they are where they are and you aren't. I was a stable hand and could see the power in the horses hind legs that did the airs above the ground. They were caprioles.
I have been to this farm a number of times. These Young Horses are in TRAINING, so it may seem they are not being treated right. They are being trained to get used to being around crowds and the rigors of performing for an audience.
that was so cool. anyone who thinks that this isn't real dressage should go and search up the history of dressage. this kind of dressage was used in war. I think that we should be glad that this kind of dressage is spreading. I think it is kinda stupid that people are saying 'go and watch the real stuff in Vienna.'
Do you know anything about dressage? Those horses lacked the strength to hold the levade, and looked extremely uncomfortable during their airs above grounds. Those weren't true caprioles, they were kicking out. Any horse can do that. They were also lunged/ridden in pelhams and kimberwickes. You could see they weren't through their backs, and it was clearly evidenced by their failure to do the airs above grounds properly.
This is not dressage. This is nothing but a circus and should not under any circumstances be compared with the classical Dressage practiced by the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.
These are not the famous Lipizzaner Stallions either. There are no true Lipizzaner Stallions in the US, they're in Vienna and they're all trained there. Not in Florida. The true ones rarely tour the US.
Again, those aren't caprioles. They are just bucks. The horses don't have the momentum or hind quarter engagement to pull off a proper capriole. Actually, most of the 'airs above the grounds' movements you attempt are incorrect. Your riders need training.
3 years late...oh well.. and I agreee. This is not true spanish horse training-- the lipizzaners like in Vienna. Truly from the start, the horses looked to be like scared, and very nervous! A IMMEDIATE SIGN OF NOT TRUSTING THE RIDER!

so true. I don't blame the horses...only the riders/trainers.

That is cool. I like that it is a show of skill not a competition.
I would love to come and see them perform, can you tell when and where?
Go to Vienna and see the real thing.

the real one are from slovenia (Lipica)
Originally yes they were from Lipica in Slovenia, but the horses in this show are descended from historic Lippizan Stallions

The riders have poor postural control.

The horses being pulled around don't necessarily like it.. And the riders posture I mean seriously.. Gag me with a spoon
That was painful to watch. I hope you all go back to Pony Club, and review basic riding skills.
